This place is about 4 miles down the road from us... it's never been open the 4 years we've lived here but thank god they don't take the signs down <3

You only need to wait a few more days for my last Skylarking mix for Tak Tent Radio who are sadly folding at the end of this month.
I will still be doing Garden mixes of course but future Skylarking mixes will be hosted elsewhere. My last one is on the rather creepy-crawly subject of INSECTS, I'll post it up on Friday, uh oh...

    • lookijg forward to it Gardener. Sorry it's your last one though buddy.Ianbolton
    • Cheers Ian, GOED will continue though, I will just need to find a new home for Skylarking mixes.Gardener

I just found a ghost Boards of Canada thread. Posted on there, but it's not in the roll. Don't we have a legit BoC thread?

With RAM prices being so crazy, it's a good thing I changed my PC a month ago ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just gotz me a job at a big ad agency in NYC, worked it out perfectly so I can still disappear for a few months do do my fishing thing every year/season. Still working remote though, but now I have more of a reason to go up there and meet some of you guys in NYC finally. This AI slop thing has been nothing but GREAT for me.

went driving / hiking with my wife and pup into a local state park today atop a mountain in the middle of nowhere, New England today... stumbled upon all sorts of 200+ year old foundations / stone walls / old roads / dangerous open wells atop a mountain in the middle of nowhere... could do that everyday

    • Wish I could edit my old man repetitious writing... I read like a sleepy stoner (not far from the truth)PonyBoy

    Hi blog, last updates:

We've postponed buying the EV because the government subsidies have run out and, frankly, both our cars are still running great (the Multipla too ;)).

    Maybe next year?

For now, I'd rather focus on finishing this year, one of the strangest I've ever experienced, and see what next year brings.

Our youngest daugther is coming home in two weeks, after four months of Erasmus. She's missed, but she already seems distant—that's life.

Every now and then I look at photos of when my daughters were little and oh my god, what a pair of kids!

We have to look back from time to time to see where we've come from, but keep moving forward, with strength and eternal curiosity as our companion, without obsessing over what we were...

    Amen, lol.

Have a great weekend, weirdos :)

Daily journal writing is the ultimate cheatcode to personal insights and self development.

Fuck whatever Instagram-spirituality associations it gives you. It really works (okay, for me at least).

Just 10 minutes of stream of consciousness writing about whatever I ate for breakfast and my plans for today, ssemingly out of nothing thoughts about intimate personal issues and whatnot, surface.

Give it a try. It's like free therapy.

Remember, NO ONE has to (and optimally should) read it but you.

    • Instructions unclear.
      Share yours, as an example.
      palimpsest
    • Share my journal? Are you high?jagara
    • Start writing about whatever you want, see where it goes. Those are the instructions ;)jagara
    • < i tried this and determined NOT to write about breakfast etc. i accidentally unleashed my subconscious which was so dark twisted and worrying...hans_glib
    • ...that i destroyed the journal and vowed never to do that again. the monstr was put back in it's box thank godhans_glib
    • And that monster is now subconsciously controlling all your actions XDjagara
    • haha - but it always has/had. but i never knew just how grim it was until i started the journal. my dad always said i had worms in my head - if only he knew...hans_glib
    • Make friends with your monster. That's the whole point, dude! :Djagara
    • The monster is part of you, is you!
      </wisdom>

    • I like the idea, I fill tons of notebooks with, sketches, doodles and writings, during my work-days... A journal? Why not, more time far from screens :)OBBTKN
    • I do the same thing. BTW in psychology it is used in CBT therapy. It does help.renderedred
    • it's taught in business schools. it's a well known tool. keep doing it, for the rest of your life. or meditate daily. works wonders also.uan
    • No offense, but it sounds like some fucking commie gobbledygook.palimpsest
    • @palimpsest whatever your political leanings: writing your your thoughts daily can give you a personal outlet, and give you personal insights :)jagara
    • I just remembered you're a commie, never mind :Djagara
    • lol, indeed!
      It's a Norm Macdonald reference.
But it speaks well of your approach. You handled it in the best way possible. <3

On a call for a "board" related to a "Drug Advocacy Council" I do work with/for...

... It's very real/raw talk related to "unhoused", addiction, etc. etc. etc. AND it's a group of folks trying their best to help people with real mental / physical health issues that can't or simply WON'T help themselves.

As a recovering addict myself, I have perspective and empathy towards this group and feel a real desire/need to do what I can.

In the current state of the world, funding for this realm becomes very difficult; it's heavily reliant on government funding, donations, etc. etc. etc. which seem less and less.

Any experience in this world with folks?

    • 80+ overdoses reported in Vancouver yesterday; other side of the country as Ontario, BUT things seem to be going the opposite direction this group intends...ideaist
    • No direct experience myself, but these trends are so concerning, and I’ve been close to people who have thankfully been supported by families to Recovery.monospaced
    • Sponsorship strategy? Yes, I have raised and managed six-figure sponsorship deals. Coincidentally, the company that certified me was in Toronto.canoe

Women make cunt cakes, cunt pillows, cunt muffins, cunt ashtrays, cunt beanbag chairs, cunt hoovercrafts and so on.

    There should be dick equivalents.

    We should make dick equivalents!

And have them around our house, and be extremely upset if people point out how distasteful this is, and arrogantly scold them because we're better than them and more in touch with our almighty cosmic masculinity.

Client needs 25 books printed, probably 52 pages or so, full color... has anyone had any luck with this?

    • Thanks utope!canoe
    • I take it, you used them before?canoe
    • Yes, good quality, pricing is reasonable for short runs. Pay the extra money to have their logo removed from the binding.utopian
    • +1 on blurb, at least from past experience. I've got a bunch of photo books done through them and quality has been excellent.monNom
    • Had mixed results with Blurb. They botched the cover on a proof to the point that I didn't feel confident with the initial design and had to pivot a full...duckseason
    • ...bleed approach. Also, the binding started falling apart on a lot of books. I don't necessarily fault them for this, as they were getting used heavily...duckseason
    • ...as menus at a bar. I more so blame the client for skimping on a budget printer, but just putting it out there.duckseason
    • But they are good in a pinch and decent value for the money.duckseason
    • I had great success with them 10 years ago for beautiful photo books we made for our clients. I recommend them but mostly because they are the only ones.monospaced
    • Any on demand printer can do small short run books, but blurb is good if you want hard bound and custom.monospaced
    • These guys do an awesome job and you can customize with matte finishes for the cover and interior, with different weights, very good pricing: https://mixam.comdavey_g

Last night I was watching Bugonia with the GF and she said we need to turn it off as Emma Stone's character was being tortured/electrocuted. I flipped out as I said it's a satire about conspiracy theorists and it was silly, yet we see films all the time where men are being tortured (often to death) often for no reason.

I understand and appreciate that violence towards women needs to stop, but why is it okay to show constant violence towards men showing how disposable they are, but any violence towards women is BAD?

I shouldn't have flipped out, but I really find the sensitivity behind it all so frustrating and it limits the films we can watch together.

Please guide me in the right direction wonderful QBN'ers! x

    • Men dying in wars is "ok", but we cannot tolerate violence against women, and it exists. I personally cannot stand scenes of violence against women...OBBTKN
    • And let's not even talk about children. If a movie deals with the kidnapping of girls, for example, I stop watching it immediately.OBBTKN
    • I think there's too much violence in movies and TV shows; it's sometimes obscene. And the worst part is that it desensitizes us to it.OBBTKN
    • If you're going to watch a movie with your girlfriend, why not watch the typical cheesy ones? ;)OBBTKN
    • I personally can't tolerate violence towards anybody, but schlocky violent films can be fun in a stupid way. I think we end up being overly sensitive.Ianbolton
    • I love horror films, but i appreciate some people do not. I definitely overreacted last night and should've respected the fact she found it uncomforatbleIanbolton
    • I don't think i could deal with a GF who could only watch cheesy bullshit. Like, so disconnected from any kind of reality it's unbearable ;-)Ianbolton
    • Understood. We've always been fans of horror movies, but I think with all the REAL horror we see on screen now, we've lost interest or we're hypersensitive...OBBTKN
