I was braindead / zoning out @ around 11pm last night **watching a video** in Quicktime a client sent me of them sharing their screen and scrolling / clicking through a massive adobe workfront dump PACKED w/conversation / requested updates and of course full of multiple pages of graphics etc (my design work)... TONS OF TEXT CHANGES... long paragraphs etc... *click *click *click burning through each note so I can see it for all of half a second at times (I was sitting there hitting pause nonstop for a good 2 hours to get through all the updates).
I say I was 'braindead / zoning out' because I was just exhausted... I had forgotten I was **watching a video** (a simple mp4). Like a half asleep overworked zombie I clicked into the video to try and select the paragraph of copy that I could only see for half a second in the mp4... AND IT SELECTED... AND COPIED AND PASTED... I could literally select ANY TYPE in the video from wherever it was paused...
... OUT OF AN MP4?????
Um... RAD!!!
First time I've actually been grateful for some AI integration into an app that didn't drive me nuts always getting in the way... it's still a bit untrustworthy as it does get some type wrong but who cares?! RAD, I SAY!!!!
- I'm probably late to the game on this one...PonyBoy
- Thanks Apple.monospaced
- You're not late, Pony. Well, maybe you are. But I am, too ... I only discovered this not long ago.Continuity
- There's so much going on it's hard to be on time for "the game". Are we almost to the point that if we can think it, we can make it happen?canoe
- wait, what, a client sent you a video of corrections??? fuck's sake the world's gone mad...hans_glib
- We should have a thread called Useful AI and we just drop what we think is new and good.Longcopylover
- I noticed something like that fairly recently as well.. being able to copy text from a source that (until now) I'd never been able to... definitely a surpriseexador1

Oh more or less a whim, a few weeks ago, I signed up for a beginner Japanese course at the local community college.
A1 level (on the CEFR scale), 20 hours; so I'm not going to be in any way, shape or form fluent after this.
I was a pretty shit student as a teenager. Lazy. Disengaged. Wanting to be anywhere but in school.
Being back in a classroom to learn a new language (my fourth) for the first time in I don't know how long was the most fun I've had in ages, and I can't wait for next week. And I've just signed up for the next batch at A2.
- First lesson was this evening.Continuity
- Can you learn a language without the immersion? I can't.canoe
- For now, I'm going to have to content myself with anime and non-translated manga that I've got, as well as my weekly visits to the Japanese grocery here.Continuity
- But, I can absolutely see a point at which I'll need a tandem partner or something.Continuity

- oh, cool, thanks @stoplying, that's very helpful!
@canoe, damn that's a fine way of learning a language.Continuity

The fact that so many people are named Hunter but no one is named Gatherer shows which side of the tribe won the PR battle.

Fell into the bank call scam :( got robbed, bank blaming me... FML

But, how?palimpsest - Ostia puta! ^+1maquito
- What scam?monospaced
- I have change my credit card several times this year as it was used my someone in another geographical area that I have never visited.Salarrue
- I got a call to confirm that. And that is it. But then the scammer replicated the same process and somehow new my bank info so it reset my password...Salarrue
- Since the bank sends a secure SMS to confirm access, the cleverly used the same process and I gave the code...Salarrue
- "somehow they knew my information.
That is what I need to fight with my bankSalarrue - But technically is case closed...Salarrue
- If a credit card, you can do something... Debit are more complicated, good luck, and kill those bastards!OBBTKN
- Honestly these dumb fucks need to all be strung up by their balls. It’s the one thing Trump can do to actually redeem himself. India, you want to avoid 1000%_niko
- Tariffs? I want heads on a platter. Forget fake Venezuelan drug boats, forget the fake South African genocide go after call center scammers ffs!_niko
- That sucks. How much $ did you lose?NBQ00
- Was this one of those calls where they tell you "your card has been compromised so we need your pin number"?palimpsest
- Happened to me once with a forged cheque; (sh)it happens / upwards and onwards. Plead the 5th, get the $ back and move on. NEVER AGAIN!!!
; )ideaist - anything related to bank or money, when you receive a call ALWAYS say i will call you back, so you can dial the real phone #HAL9001
- Happened to my ex. Was on the phone for a long time. They had her banking # and SS. Then they asked for her PIN and she was like... FU! and hung up.fooler
- damn man :(YakuZoku
- ooooofpango
- Yeah, that sucks! Remember everyone, banks don’t really call. If they do they connect you with a real staff member and there are major security questions.monospaced
- Sucks man. They get smarter every day.skinny_puppy

Fortunately I haven't fallen into a bank scam yet but I constantly get called by crypto scammers via fake numbers. About every day 1-2.
Yesterday one woman called me and I picked up the phone and just said nothing. I can immediately tell when it's a crypto scammer. Because there's usually 1-2 seconds pause and you can hear their call-center noises in the background subtly.
She: "Hello Mr. X..."
She: "Hello?"
She: "Hello, you there?"
after about 20 seconds.
She: "Blyat!" and hangs up.

They're fucking relentless. No matter how many times you tell them to stop calling they just try over and over. I assume they just got the number from somewhere and don't update each other on the success-rate with the given number. They've been trying to scam me for years and just waste their time. Unfortunately I can't change my number for many reasons and don't want to. I just hope these scammers and call centers get busted.
- Unless it's a known contact, the call will always get ignoredstoplying

Scams are getting very sophisticated, they were not from India, they masked a real number from the bank and then they mentioned some transactions that I did in the past, that made me put my guards down... Anyways. Shit happens.
- Sorry man. I've been scammed as well and it feels like you're a sucker. Just know you're not and these fuckers are just getting smarter.capn_ron
- wow thats nutsYakuZoku

For years I've gotten my news mainly from news.google, social media, a little TV, and public radio. It was a mess of information, invasive ads, paywalls, and questionable sources and reporting.
This week I subscribed to the NY Times (great sale going on) and the clarity of their stories, designs and layouts, and their cadence of alerts sent to my phone is so well done. Say what you will about their stance on issues, etc. but they got it so very right across their platforms. Sports reporting via The Athletic is outstanding as well. Really impressed with it so far.- Cool source for your daily dose of propaganda ;)OBBTKN
- ^ It may as well be designed well : )stoplying

The "cold" is here. Not too bad yet. And this heated mat reminds me how much I love my wife, seriously ;)

Why are song lyrics so bad?
You'd think Drake songs are catchy, but nothing is even a full sentence that makes any sense.
