I'm sharing with you a thought that's been bothering me for some time...
My dad thinks I'm rich.
Just like that.
And nothing could be further from the truth.
Oh my...
- lol this is funny, what does he do?monospaced
- My father? He is 80, he's retired...OBBTKN
- I mean, what does he do to imply he thinks you’re rich?monospaced
- I have no idea, I own three bikes and I get paid for my drawings... other than that, few luxuries ;)OBBTKN
- well back in the day luxuries were expensive. Nowadays luxuries are relatively cheaper. Perception hasn't changed yet I guess.pango
- A $300 TV in 60s would have cost $2,490 in today's money.
Today an average TV still costs $300pango - A good tv costs $2500 thoughmonospaced
- A good pen also costs $2500.
but we talking about the most popular sold price point.pango - lol like you're 16 "I own three bikes" :D one day you're going to be able to put those together and build one that's actually can be called a bike ;)sted

May has been the driest ever recorded here. I took next week off, was planning on going to my humble summer place.
Its gonna rain all week.

I never understood the appeal of "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
.... and I like Peter Saville's "Unknown Pleasures" artwork a lot better than any of Joy Division's music (yet I am a huge fan of the music of New Order)Unpopular opinion?
- just not your cup of tea.
I like Joy Division a lot but still would rank New Order higher.pango - yeah, that's it - not for my sensibilitiesKrassy
- it was literally a different time of mood. i wouldnt worry too much about it and enjoy what you like._me_
- Different, unique, haunting voice, heavy, ultimately tragic. Just something beautifully depressing about it._niko
- It’s like a really good pungent blue cheese, you might love it but also 100% understand why other people despise it lol_niko
- @_niko yeah, thanks for the perspective. I'm not worried about it or hating on it...I do enjoy what I likeKrassy
- I just find it a bit overhyped ;-)Krassy
- The appeal is the drum beat. And the synth line. And the bass line. And the melody. But hey, New Order are cool too.stoplying
- ^ stop lying, dudeKrassy
- =)Krassy
- I think it has to do with age and time period... older folks like JD more than NO.. NO was changing the game and we were ready for itcanoe
- Not sure if it's really a fair thing to say overhyped. I mean I don't care for Elvis Presley, does that mean he was overhyped?canoe
- Love Will Tear Us Apart is total pop, you can sing along to it, and everybody can agree with the ironycanoe
- ^ fair fairKrassy
- just not your cup of tea.

At the car boot today I found a bootleg DVD of the same night I went to my first gig! My memories are not too hazy, considering I was only 14. I do remember being impressed by the size of the hall and I had quite a good view. My abiding memory though is of my Dad taking me and my friend Ilya to our seats and telling us "I'll be back soon" and he didn't return for the rest of the entire gig. However we eventually tracked him down at the bar where he confessed he thought "they were rubbish and too bloody loud". Tonight I'll find out if memory serves me well, I remember the night with great affection.
- my ticket had loads of pinholes where I had pinned it to various boards over the years, so I decided to cut the corners off one day.Gardener
- What a good gig to have went to. :-)PhanLo

Kids are interested in learning to skate so I've been out with them recently at local school playground on a board too.
I can get little one-inch ollie's, pretty stoked haha.

I was just remembering earlier today how I used to love walking around the Lake District in the 80’s with my tape Walkman listening to Stevie Wonder (Hotter Than July), Robert Palmer (Clues) and Roxy Music (Country Life) which were particular faves. But in the early 90’s I was on a crap TV show on BBC 1 (I got to do my Trimphone impression party piece) and the first prize was a CD Walkman. However my mate and I came second and our prize was a tape Walkman, and tbh it was pretty rubbish even then.
Witness the horror...

every year I teach a course at uni.. every year i tell the students just do the work as i will catch you cheating.. and every year i catch them.
usually its a slap on the wrist and they need to redo the course..
just got word one of them got expelled as when they were investigated by academic integrity unit, they have been at it across every class they did..brutal defeat.
its so stupid tho, the bar is already so low for this class.. like painted on the ground low .. like its more work to contract cheat than to phone it in and pass.
- reading stories about students who become so dependent on AI to solve the work for them. I'm sure some will do it just out of habit.Nutter
- thats not necessarily a bad thing, a student that can pass a degree using AI is more employable in some roles. digital literacy innitkingsteven
- i hear our students talk about using AI to check their work. it's kind of annoying because we pay people to do that, learning is the point not the mark. but heykingsteven
- we still get a load of plagiarism even with AI, either way... some people just love cheating... as auto says it's often not easier than actually doing the workkingsteven
- Someone lacking critical skills because they've outsourced them to AI won't be employable for long.i_monk
- they arent using AI to pass, they are paying people on the internet to do the assignments for themautoflavour
- contract cheating is a whole thing..autoflavour
- And the contracted people are using AI to max the number of contractswoowahesque

Sorry if this makes me sound old as fuck, but do people (QBN) use iPads now for sketching instead of pen and paper?
- nohans_glib
- Storyboarding, scamping, layout roughs - Yes. Sketching - You could but for me, not so much. I like the feel of the substrate and pencils/crayons/mark... etc.Morning_star
- Also the iPad can make things a lot faster and safer. Sketching IRL creates different results because of this.Morning_star

- Illustrated an entire book on ipadtank02
- Yes, I draw cars on my iPad in Sketch. Been meaning to try Fresco..slappy
- Thanks everyone. I've seen loads of people doing some great illustrations on their iPads. I don't own one and thought it'd get me back into drawing.Ianbolton
- I'm just your regular consumer of tech bitch thinking an IPad would inspire me to be more creative.Ianbolton

I've been wondering if it's finally time to upgrade from my Intuos4 (2009) to a screen tablet, and start drawing again.- Yes, I had both, the iPad Pro with procreate wongrafician
- I don't know it it was just familiarity, but I found drawing on screen (cintiq-style) was less productive than wacom-style.monNom
- First, you have your hand over the artwork so you have to move it away all the time to re-assess... having an unobstructed view is actually pretty nice.monNom
- second, I use keyboard shortcuts constantly. Using the pen, or even the hard keys on the intuos are so slow in comparison.monNom
- The ipad and pencil do work really nicely, but they wouldn't be my choice for full-on illustration. I prefer a powerful PC and a wacom for that work.monNom

Do any of you know about Google Workspace? I started a YouTube channel at my job many years ago using my standard work email address. I was able to add channel managers by simply logging in and everything was smooth.
I'm now being asked for my gmail address to login - not my personal gmail address, but one that has been generated through Google Workspace (formerly Google +)
I don't want to attempt to log in too many times and risk being locked out of the channel. Any guidance that anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Thanks- Call Google CEOpseud
- Google Workspace is not G+, it's their productivity suite: Gmail, Drive, Sites...
You're probably trying to access a company workspace.palimpsest - You don't necessarily need to have a company email to access it. I know because it's my bread & butter.palimpsest
- Pretty sure you can only get in with the job email - not the personal one
This is why I never login with work gmail on servicesgrafician - Thanks fellows - I only ever used my work email (not gmail).stoplying

I was shopping at the supermarket, and suddenly a song started playing on the music, and I was thinking; "damn, that voice, I'd say it's U2" (I'm a U2 fan, until Pop), but I didn't know the song, and it was like a U2 rip-off, but a bad one...
Turns out it was a song from 2004*, and it was a really shitty song!
* Country mile (2004).

I just ripped a piece of wide sticky tape that went a bit off-piste and ripped a long diagonal bastard.
I could fucking swear the noise it made was "What the Hell?".
That is all. This is blog.

funny, I've never once gotten into an argument on QBN. when someone posts something I don't like, I just downvote it and move on. I just don't follow the notes on my posts too closely.
i think the people who are fighting simply like to fight. they don't bother me too much. more than 11 notes? just don't read 'em

I keep hearing WuTang rap about "British Walkers". For years I assumed they were talking about the British penchant for strolls and country rambles. I realised today that they are referring to some sort of shoe?! Possibly Clarks Wallabies.
