Just saw a trailer for the Minecraft movie starring Jack Black...
Full confession: I have never in my life even watched a clip of the game let alone played it (not kidding... I know it's game about 'blocks' ...that's about it).
Do I make time for this game / movie given how ridiculously popular the game is? I'm not a gamer at all these days... hung that up when I stopped building my own PCs about 15-ish years ago (I do miss playing Battlefield (2) of which the latest iteration looks RAD... makes me want to build a PC again).

Minecraft is a fantastic game, and I can't wait 'til my kid's old enough so we can play it together. I haven't played it in years though, because a) I just don't play many computer games any more, and b) when I DID play, it was a masssssive time suck. Like, I'd lose entire days and nights to it.It's a world that you literally build around yourself and it can be very compelling... if you're into that sort of thing.
It's not a game for everyone, so I'd suggest watching some gameplay videos to see if it appeals*.
What I''d absolutely not suggest watching though, is the movie with Jack Black in it.
.
* or have a scan of a thread a certain-someone started about the game many years ago. The first video linked sort of gives a good indication of whats' on offer: https://www.qbn.com/topics/64278…
- i mist have put in hundreds of hours with my daughter on Minecraft, I would continue playing/building after she went to sleepYakuZoku

So the song of the super bowl and grammys, etc is song about Drake and underage women?
And people sing it for fun and Drake isn't in jail?
- technically it's about a dude in drake's crew who did do jail time for it...for Drake it's borderline stuff that Kendrick's trolling him about_niko
- But having said that what do I know, when you're that famous girls will do anything to get your attention even if they're underage._niko

- Are you wondering how this song is not used as evidence that will put Drake behind bars?monospaced

Last night Elvis was in the building! To celebrate my in-laws 60th wedding anniversary my wife arranged for The King to perform an hour long set in our spare room. He was really good and was totally in the zone, after half an hour it turned into a dance party for all the guests but these pics were as he was just getting warmed up, it was great fun.

Last night was the championship game of the 5th/6th grade indoor floor hockey league. The team I coach was in second place and we had three kids who have no previous hockey experience. We played the first place team who is made up seemingly a tight knit group of kids who all play on the same ice hockey team.
At the beginning of the season a draft is held with the intention of balancing each team with an equal number of experienced and inexperienced players. The kids wear numbers on their backs and run through some drills, and we coaches walk around the gym with clipboards "grading" the kids based on ability. It's truly a shitty feeling giving Connor a "C" for stick handling, but it's part of the process. Then the coaches go into a room, review each player, and then we have a draft. Like I said, my team had three kids who never played before, but they were all relatively athletic.
The first place team hadn't lost a game all season, and we went ahead early on with a 2-1 lead but just couldn't deal with their skill level. We ended up losing 6-2 and it is what it is. What feels crappy is how the coaches were able to get all of these kids on one team. I'm not sure how they did it, but they were miles ahead of all the other teams and it would've been so sweet to stick it to em last night, but it wasn't the case.
Floor hockey season is officially over, now we move on to spring travel soccer.

Two weeks ago: flu. Ibuprofen, cuppa tea, alright in 4 days. The cough lingered, two or three days of coughing up demons. Week 1 comes to an end. Unbearable headache. Ibuprofen. I think, “Nah, I can’t be sick again... with what?”
The next day: massive jaw pain. “Okay, time to see the doctor.”
Doctor: “You have ACUTE OTITIS.”
Five days on antibiotics, the pain persists. Tinnitus.

Got told my position is being made redundant earlier this week.
How's the job market looking out there?
Last 5 years as UX Team lead in Ad Tech.
Previously ~20 years Web/Digital/Brand at CD/SD levels.- From what I hear not good at our age.
Let us now if someting works out for you.
Godspeed!palimpsest - It’s rough out there. Been at it hard for a few weeks now and I can say it’s not like it used to be. So much more competition.monospaced

so... my advice for you is to work your network as hard as possible..exador1 - someone, somewhere has a gig or a role for you...but you gotta ask...
the whole applying thing with your resume shit ...ugh...did that for a few monthsexador1 - got hardly any results from it... just endlessly reworking my resume thinking it's somehow my fault it's not getting traction...exador1
- Will be trying to work any networks. Already dived into linkedin to see whats going. Will be revising my CV and updating my folio over the next week. FUN!microkorg

- people will value what you can do, and all your skills are transferrable but downplay specific design skills/ industry roles and demonstratekingsteven
- At our age, the advantage you have is knowing people (hopefully). Network, ask around, don’t forget to help others whenever you can********
- @microkorg - What changed leading to your redundency? IE. is it customers switched to a different ad-tech, or is it a broader change like chat replacing searchmonNom
- Its a merger where products/departments overlapped. Been payoffs across lots of different departments - product, finance, marketing, devs.microkorg
