When it comes to sugar-free soda, the only one that truly tastes good is grapefruit. The artificial sweeteners are bitter. So is grapefruit. So you don't notice the typical sweetener taste.

    Great success!

People are talking about how interracial marriage could be in danger now that Roe is repealed.

How does that make sense or logistically enforceable? Race isn't a legal thing, right?

    • It's because they're bringing back slavery.palimpsest
    • Maybe worried about overturning Loving v. Virginia? Is there actually a risk of that? I haven't heard anyone advocating it.monNom
    • It was enforced before with racist thinking and racists want to do the same thing again. It’s not complicated.monospaced
    • Americas history of institutionalized racism from day one built into our politics and government. Black people couldnt even vote that long ago. Legally.monospaced

My dog is very old now. Pushing 18. I git him when he was 4. He’s very white in the face and weak has had at least one seizure that has left him with poor balance on top of the arthritis. He’s mostly deaf. He sleeps a lot during the day, restless at night. I carry him upstairs, downstairs, outside all over.

But there are moments when he is suddenly a puppy again, like when I suddenly shuffle my feet like we’re about to play and he does a little twirly dance. Or he tells me he wants to go outside and he bounds around awkwardly with excitement. Treats too, even when im hiding his medicine in them.

Yesterday after my girlfriend took her dog out to pee before she left for work I found him sleeping next to my leg, which had been dangling over the bed. He wasn’t always cuddly with me because he’s a prideful boy but this late in life it’s like he’s gotten over something and wants to be close to me. I noticed that he watches my fingers all the time for the wiggle sign that a massage is on offer.

When I am alone with him back at my place I lie awake and read about how to be a good for him and what I can do to make him comfortable. Then I start weeping like an abandoned child, like I have already lost him. I visualize what it will be like. Will I find him? Will the vet do it? It’s like I’m trying to prepare myself for the time when I have to hold in my screams when I can see the light has left.

I’m having a hard time with this.

Our culture has such a strong bias toward whitecollar work. People who work in the trades or service industry are looked down upon and it’s really a shame, especially when considering that a huge portion of whitecollar jobs are “bs jobs”.

After finishing making a Spanish chickpea stew earlier, I sat out on the front stoop to have a quick smoke before eating.

In front of me was a parking space as wide as an ocean liner, and in came a Fiat 55, which tried to reverse park in to it.

The first attempt was a disaster. The driver looked at me and I shook my head sadly. 'No, my friend'. He pulled out and tried again, and failed. We didn't match eyes this time.

He tried again, and somehow - unbelievably - failed again.

He looked up at me for the ever slightest pico-second, and then drove off, to try somewhere else.
