    To live is to suffer.

Everyday fighting against getting older. Trying to stay fit and lean but there's stubborn belly fat that seems to be winning the war. The shoulder in pain from too much lifting but if I don't lift I get out of shape.

I sometimes hate the rat-race towards death.

Instead of getting baby gates to stop my kid going places she shouldn't, i'm wondering instead about hacking one of those electrified dog collar things they have, which use proximal virtual fields that zap when the dog goes near something it shouldn't.

it could be so much more modular. no clumsy and inconvenient gates.

Anything that's a gold mine to a curious child - cupboards filled with cleaning products or fragile glassware, ovens, back of the computer desk, toilet, front door - just, fucking everywhere. Set up points and *schhhrt!* an electric shock every time she strays where she shouldn'ta. "Not there, my dear - Remember, electro-God's watching".

    • Using a water spray bottle when she approaches the no-go areas seems like a more humane alternative.deadsperm
    • ..with the electric collar?

I think i like your thinking.

Companies must be so fearful of negative social media press these days - I bought a packet of 'salami chips' the other day after spying them on promo for ages in my supermarket. I'd been eyeing them for months, but I try not to waste money on pointless stuff these days, so didn't buy one until a few days back, when I just caved in, needing a treat.

Opened them up and ... ew, they don't look great. Taste one, nup. Taste another, ewno. taste a third and spit it out - clearly there's something amiss with the packet.

Write a friendly complaint to the company, via email, explaining what had happened and included a photo of the packet and 'chips' in question and BOOMPH, now I have six packets that they've sent me for free. I only wanted a replacement one.

And now I'm here not quite doing social media promotion for them, of sorts. Clever girl.

    • So were the replacements good or as awful as salami chips sound?ben_
    • Basically just slightly crisp slices of very paprika-ish salami (Mangalitza products tend to be fairly similar to chorizo, i've found)Nairn

I have friends who are depressed, and they spend all their time shitposting on social media and doom-scrolling. And I have to wonder, are they doing that because they're depressed, or are they depressed because of what they're doing?

If I spent all my time on facebook and instagram, I would be depressed too.
