Remember when NFTs were the future of "something" but nobody could tell you what? Yeah ... It turns out it was a scam all along.

    • the infrastructure to support them is still being built and tested. There will be new use cases other than reselling digital art.zaq

Minecraft completely rejecting NFTs and what they represent is a big deal. Minecraft is the most successful video game and virtual world in history, and WAS a big target for NFT racketeering.

Minecraft has decided NFTs have no place in its future. Huge.

Oil paint changed art by allowing artists to paint bright scenes outdoors with new pigments. The work gained plasticity. It even led to doing away with representation. Painting transformed and reinvented itself thanks to oil painting.

Hey crew - definitely loving this movement.
I was asked last year to join MakersPlace and have sold a few pieces. Mostly hand-drawn digital gifs: https://makersplace.com/jasonscu…

I was also accepted into Known Origin and just dropped the first 3D animated piece for bids: https://knownorigin.io/gallery/2…

Lastly, I'm starting to get involved with a group here in Japan as the market hasn't thrived yet and is the perfect breeding ground due to the immense talent pool.

    My 2 cents:

If you are a digital creator (illustration or animation, etc.), it was challenging to find a place that welcomed you with open arms especially if you had the inclination to possibly sell the work.

Rather than aimlessly posting on social platforms that generate ungodly profits from their users without batting an eye, blockchain technology (smart contracts) allows artists to gain more control over the work they produce.

This tech is changing the digital landscape in any number of industries - finance especially - take advantage of it as a creator - there are collectors out there looking for the new hotness - seriously!

Here's a few spots if you don't already know:

These require a sign-up process (proof you're an artist and could take a long time - KO was the only one I could get into due to the waiting lists...)

    Easier spots:

This guide by Justin Cone may help you wrap your head around the concept of NFTs in general - it's a pretty cool overview:

My recent NFT adventures have whetted my appetite for going all in with a proper collection. My boyz at fiverr came through. I present to you my new NFT collection drop called "She a pro".
Here's a small sample of the limited edition collection of 100 iterations coming soon.

Each NFT comes with a rare generative STD bonus : HPV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes.
If you're super lucky you might get the HIV/Rona combo.
STDs won't be only limited to the blockchain, with each NFT you can book an appointment so you can take your STD home with you forever. Try and right click on that, haters!

Since this is a major project I'm planning to launch it on my own platform: Art Never Sleeps.

My 12yo brought up a good point/question. What’s to stop people gaming the system by having friends bid outrageous amounts for an nft just to boost the values and increase the prestige of an artist and then just transfer back the funds to your friend?

So all of a sudden people see that artist x has been selling pieces in the 100ks and all subsequent work will be valued as such.

A few months ago I was invited to join Known Origin by one of their Artist & Collector Relations. It came completely out the blue as I hadn't even applied to be on that platform.

Completely humbled by the invitation I wanted to do something really special as my genesis release. Tonight I minted the first three pieces from a new body of work 'Dream Shamans'.

This NFT environmental thing is making me crazy.

Everyone is basing their opinion on ONE article that this guy Memo Atken wrote that paints a horrible picture. He is just a technologist, an artist, doing some calculations...good for him,,,,but he is not the only voice. He sounds authoritative. But from what I have read, while he raises legitimate issues, he also makes a lot of assumptions, and has caused digital artists to lose their minds. The press uses him as a gospel source.

To decide an issue you need multiple sources.

This is a headline on MSNBC: Bitcoin, NFTs and other crypto fads are destroying our planet

What the fuck. Destroying our planet?

I have read a number of things about this and I do not believe that anyone REALLY KNOWS.....it is complex....like immigration or free speech.....many many parts to it, factors to weigh.

I have read multiple sources say that the NFTs dont even affect the blockchain at all....the blockchain has the same activity....this what the Super Rare piece says - they did not make that up. And Super Rare is not Google...they are a relatively small company...

Plus EVERYONE KNOWS that ethereum and bitcoin have an energy issue. Ethereum is fixing that problem and from what I just read this afternoon by summer it will be 100x more efficient and within a year 10,000 time more efficient

But some artists act like creating an NFT is like clubbing a baby seal to death in front of its mother and if you do it you are a horrible person....

    • There are multiple sources indeed, but it seems that you are picking the only ones that makes the whole NFT narrative look good?Fabricio
    • I am being critical honestly, and I'm doing almos weekly research about it, since now even my clients are asking for me to jump in, and Im saying no no no....Fabricio
    • But yeah, it is a complex matter, and it seems people are choosing which side to "believe" just so they can continue to sell their NFT's in peace.Fabricio
    • Proof-of-Work calculations only scale to consume available capacity. GPUs used for for Ethereum alone could drive 1000x's of Pixar's 24,000 core render farmjonny_quest_lives
    • Instead the Ethereum blockchain uses them to validate basic arithmetic. Then charges users $50-175 to execute that basic arithmetic.jonny_quest_lives
    • @dkoblesky why did you get into this without fully understanding it? Have you even sold anything?grafician

    • So how is this any different than selling the artwork directly to a band and asking $7K for it, then they pay you thru venmo or whatever?grafician
    • also what stops the new owner from changing the colors and moving the sun to the left and reselling the artwork as new - when given the .AI file?grafician
    • It's an experiment @grafician... but you're right there's no difference, and you can't stop the new owner from altering the artwork.Calderone2000
    • But if they want to pay me 4ETH they can alter it all they want lolCalderone2000
    • There's also nothing stopping Calderone2000 from changing the colors himself (or not) and selling it directly to a client. The possibilities are endless.palimpsest
