    In defense of NFTs

After my recent incursion into theNFT world I have made a 360 degree turn and reconsidered my position. Although it's only been a few days, I have already contributed several pieces and started building a collection I can feel proud of.

    https://hicetnunc.art/palimpsest…
In the NFT marketplace, instead of having curators impose their choices on you, you can be the curator of your life and choose your own pieces guided by your personal experience and sensibility. Instead of wasting time and money in museums or galleries you can spend it on the NFT sphere with all the art at your fingertips, from the comfort of your home. For the price of a museum entrance you can buy several artworks and support fellow artists so they can pursue their valuable contributions to the artworld. Instead of building up the reputation of some dead artist or you can contribute to the development of new art currents. In the conventional artworld all you get is the experience, that you can Instagram at best, while with NFTs you can take the actual work home with you.

Don't let the government waste our hard earned tax dollars on crumbling public institutions for the masses. We can use that money to build our own ideal of art. Don't let others dictate what is best for you. Take back control, private ownership is the best tool against their communist agenda. And we can do all this together on the internet, the truly egalitarian environment.

    • aren´t you imprecise or brainwashed when your write .. buying several artworks... when you only buy the token and not the artwork.neverscared
    • The NFT (token) is the art. I've been saying this from day one.palimpsest
    • Totally fucking MexicoBluejam
    • yes.. but there in the text on the left it clearly says buying the artwork and not buying the token of the artwork.neverscared

      Explanation:
      You can buy several NFTs.
      The
      NFT
      is
      the
      art.
      palimpsest
    • What is the artwork for you?
      For me:
The artwork = the art = the token = the NFT.
      palimpsest
    • The NFT is the work of art is the artwork is the art.palimpsest
    • If you can't understand geometry how can you can understand NFTs?palimpsest
    • the nft is the token registration attached to your artwork you buy an can sell .. it has nuffin to do with artistic creation ..neverscared
    • just a transaction and registration with the blockchain no ?neverscared
    • i am pretty good at understanding pointtopologies and geometry since i studied architecture i think.neverscared

    grafician said:

"That's just a screenshot to show that even generated NFTs can be saved"

Only you didn't save anything... OOPS

You only exposed the code, part of which is needed for the NFT to render. Do you think this NFT only requires 1 file to render? LOL

Finding the code ≠ "haha I saved this NFT and now it plays fine for me same as the real one"

ok, then show me it rendering for you on your hard drive. this is easy, c'mon mate

after you finish with that easy task, then the logical next step is for you to put on a javascript clinic for us all since you are so good at this.

Give us a lecture on p5js and its relationship to javascript in the context of processing, the original project. While you're at it, throw in something about shaders, three.js, glsl, cables, and best practices for rendering all these on mobile. GOT IT?

Everybody ready to hear some words of wisdom from grafician?

    Go on then.
    .

    • Go on, prove how you own That Thing.Nairn
    • ...and you've hit on a very important point nairn. You don't "own" an NFT in the usual sense. You "own" it in the NFT sense. (which is radically different)cherub
    • This is what makes NFTs confusing for some. To "own" it only means the blockchain says you're the owner. Nothing to do with rights, that's separate.cherub
    • Palimpset once said "NFTs are just a receipt saying that you paid for said receipt." This is basically correct. The NFT just points to the ipfs(cloud) file.cherub
    • You do own an NFT in the usual sense. And that is all you own.palimpsest
    • True and I think what throws people off is usually IRL when you own something, you keep it to yourself and others can't have it.cherub
    • This idea of ownership if you try to apply it to NFTs can't and won't work. The file attached to the NFT is public, and not hidden.cherub
    • Tarantino or someone famous was recently toying with private blockchains, in that case then it could work differently.cherub
    • The file is attached to the NFT like hipness is attached to sneakers. They're both just selling points.palimpsest
    • agreed. some ppl will buy the trainers, others will buy the NFT.cherub
    • An NFT does not technologically or legally hold anything outside itself (the token).
And that's the beauty of it.
      palimpsest
    • So we agree you can't right click an NFT, because there's nothing there.palimpsest
    • 2 problems with that statement: -some ascii NFTs actually DO store themselves on chain (they dont' need ipfs). They are all there...cherub
    • -I know what you're getting at and it's the difference between a colloquial meaning and a literal meaning. If you get all meta about it, yes but ppl don't oftencherub
    • think like that.cherub
    • the phrase "The NFT" should reference only the actual token not the associated file on ipfs. However, these fine distinctions get missed in everyday speech.cherub
    • I think we agree on the essential stuff. The difference is that I would like to see NFTs lean on my side and expose speculation even more...palimpsest
    • ANYWAY this whole tangent was just a derail attempt by nairn to save grafician from the inevitable failure looming...cherub
    • ... and leave itself bare to see how far people will buy into it.
And you seem to lean the other way encouraging...
      palimpsest
    • ... the covering up of itself with what I consider superficial layers.palimpsest
    • If you truly believe in NFTs get rid of the smoke and mirrors.
NFTs are here to save you.
      palimpsest
    • "some ppl will buy the trainers, others will buy the NFT." .... but we ain't all in the sneakers thread sparring the same points over and over and over.microkorg
    • 'cos it would be effing tiring and would piss off the folk wanting to use that thread without drama.microkorg
    • Check the sneaker thread. Nobody is claiming that they are at the forefront of medical research. It's just sneakers, no drama.palimpsest
    • My post below listed many reasons why sneakers are much like collectible nfts.microkorg
    • the sneakers comparrsions is about the dumbest thing i ever heard... when it comes to storage of wealth ... nft vs. real objects.neverscared
    • Post all the tokens you want on this thread and you won't hear a peep from me.palimpsest
  • nb2
    • So everybody can see who are the crypto douchebags and block them? Genius move!grafician

Remember when you fake sold yourself your own NFT for like $48m. Sooo, the IRS is expecting its cut.

this will be fun to see how much fake stuff is going on ...

    • No surprises here. Tax rules do need to be clearer though. Even experts don't know shit for certain.microkorg
    • of course its not a suprise... but after they matched the wallets with identies.. they will elucidate the mechanism of speculation and trade and the clusterfuckneverscared

For OpenSea you'd be using Ethereum blockchain. $90 first fee then minting is free.
      microkorg
    • Socialising on twitter in NFT community sharing your work with other artists/collectors is best way to get sales unless you're just lucky on a platform.microkorg

Minted my second piece of work on FXhash this afternoon.
    https://www.fxhash.xyz/generativ…

These are some of the generated outputs, alongside the AI portraits that the layers make up.

Unlike my first piece which was completely random, this piece now starts off by creating a composition based on the unique hash of the bought NFT. It will then continue on its merry way to animate randomly and infinitely after a few seconds.

This was an insane experience for me as the piece literally sold out in 2 minutes. I didn't even get a chance to buy some for myself to gift to others at a later date.
