After testing negative on a rapid test Monday, and negative on a rapid test at home last night, I felt really sleep this afternoon, mild scratchy throat, mild burning eyes, so I went to a testing center for an rapid and PCR. POSITIVE. :(

I generally don't feel any worse than a mild almost unnoticeable cold, and I hope it stays that way. I used to get horrible sinus infections before I had surgery in 2018. Antibiotic-requiring, depression-inducing, don't want to look at anyone or talk to anyone and want to curl into ball and disappear sinus infections.

This is about 1/100'th the feeling of those sinus problems and hoping it stays that way.

I overheard someone call it the Cabrona Virus

Two co-workers of my wife have tested positive (One of them commute to work by car with her every day...).

Still without symptoms, and I hope we don't get it to home, cos our oldest daugther starts two months of internship in a possible job (health sector).

Covid vaccines are great at protecting against severe disease but new data shows the vaccinated are more likely to catch Omnicron.

    Source: El País

    • "Something similar is observed in the official data coming out of Iceland: the 14-day incidence rate is higher among the vaccinated population"Chimp
    • vaccinated will rather do a test. omicron has less severe symptoms, so unvaccinated might tend to avoid testing to avoid quarantine?uan

    • These sorts of studies are going to get more and more difficult to carry out accurately as two thirds, three fourths etc of the population is vaccinated.yuekit
    • I think this is misunderstanding what this graph is showing. Currently 87% of the Spanish population has been vaccinated.BaskerviIle
    • ie almost 7 times as many vaxxed than not.
If vaccination increased likelihood of infection then you would expect this numbers to be way further apart.
      BaskerviIle
    • What this shows is that numbers of infections are similar per 100,000 despite that vaxxed group being far larger...ie vaccination is effective.BaskerviIle
    • Vaccinated are more likely to catch Omnicron because there are far more of them (87% of the population)BaskerviIle

    • It’s per 100,000 and there enough unvaccinated for the data to be reliable.Chimp

    Question of the day:

Are NY’s falling case numbers the beginning of the end of Omicron? Or did NYers just stop testing because fuck it what’s the point

COCAINE AND ECSTASY USE HAS DECLINED DURING THE PANDEMIC

A new EU-wide poll has found that cocaine and ecstasy use has declined during the pandemic, while cannabis use has increased.

The survey, covering the year March 2020 to March 2021, found that the usage of MDMA (ecstacy) and cocaine decreased the most among respondents in the year - owing to the effective closure of pubs, clubs, and parties across most of Europe.

"A Neanderthal OAS1 isoform protects individuals of European ancestry against COVID-19 susceptibility and severity"

There is a gene rs10774671-G which protects against Covid and other RNA-viruses like hepatitis c, which explains why some people get sick and others not so much, and more specifically why more black people get covid in America.

15+/- years ago I bought a DNA testing kit from 23andme to check my Native American ancestry (it's 0%). They let you download your genome afterwards. I have this value:
    rsid chromosome position genotype
    rs10774671 12 111841576 AG

GG would be optimal and AA offers no protection.

Good news everyone who is still alive out there!

Excellent natural immunity confirmed (CDC Report - New York & California)

    PDF Link to CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes…

This was made with Delta Data. So, if you already had COVID-19 you were already about 4 times less likely to be reinfected and hospitalized than if you did not ever have COVID-19 and were vaccinated. Vaccination for previously infected individuals achieved protection from reinfection and hospitalization that was just slightly greater than protection that remained without ever being vaccinated.
