Covid vaccines are great at protecting against severe disease but new data shows the vaccinated are more likely to catch Omnicron.

    • "Something similar is observed in the official data coming out of Iceland: the 14-day incidence rate is higher among the vaccinated population"Chimp
    • vaccinated will rather do a test. omicron has less severe symptoms, so unvaccinated might tend to avoid testing to avoid quarantine?uan
    • assuming omicron is getting everyone (according to what we are told here in switzerland).uan
    • The idea that getting vaccinated would make you more likely to catch a virus doesn’t make much sense does it?yuekit
    • As much sense as having had covid doesn’t give you as much immunity as vaccineGnash
    • Although the data could be explained by the vaccinated being less cautious - having a false sense of securityGnash
    • I know of at least 3 anti-vaxxers who all caught covid and told basically no one. fuck them all, I hope they all suffer and die!utopian
    • These sorts of studies are going to get more and more difficult to carry out accurately as two thirds, three fourths etc of the population is vaccinated.yuekit
    • I think this is misunderstanding what this graph is showing. Currently 87% of the Spanish population has been vaccinated.BaskerviIle
    • ie almost 7 times as many vaxxed than not.
If vaccination increased likelihood of infection then you would expect this numbers to be way further apart.

    • What this shows is that numbers of infections are similar per 100,000 despite that vaxxed group being far larger...ie vaccination is effective.BaskerviIle
    • Vaccinated are more likely to catch Omnicron because there are far more of them (87% of the population)BaskerviIle

    • It’s per 100,000 and there enough unvaccinated for the data to be reliable.Chimp
    • This might explain why Isreal and Gibraltar have such high cases compared to lesser vaccinated countries.Chimp
    • This data might just be an outlier case as that of Denmark and Iceland. It’s too early to tell yet.Chimp
    • @Baskervill, if that were true you would expect the results in November to be similar but they are the opposite. The only thing that has changed is OmnicronChimp
    • Take a look at the graphs at the bottom of the page. https://english.elpa…Chimp
