Re mono's above comment.
Mono, the closeness of your perception is just colossal.
You equate a number of deaths with risk factor which is laughable. So let me try to explain it to you in terms that maybe the two brain cells you poses don't overheat from exhaustion.
VAST majority of deaths from Covid are in old and very old group. If you are 65+ you SHOULD get a vaccine as the risk is just too great. But unless i'm talking to a bunch of rocking-chair grandpas and grandmas here, the risk of death or serious complications in this age group (25-45) is equal to flu (actually below 30, it's lower than flu).
Some young people taking the vaccine might be doing so for the communal good (the virus is negligible to them but they are so-call protecting the "at risk" population) but even that argument must be seen through the prism of actual community spread. Where i live in NYC, 75%+ of population already had the virus so who are those youngsters taking the vaccine protecting?
But again, if fear or lack of understanding how the immune system works prevents your from living a normal life and if you think getting vaccine will somehow save you, then by any means go ahead get one as the risk is low. (of course, i would prefer if people instead sat down to learn about how their body works, but i know it's an impossible dream).
- 75% of NYC had the virus? Let’s see your math gymnastics on that one********
- yes, and don't leave out the undeserved condescending undertonesmonospaced
- If you think the vaccine is just to save the person getting it you’re the one who is missing something. You’re ignoring the global devastation somehow.monospaced
- nb, mortality (on conservative side) is 0.5%. Queens covid deaths: 9700. Out of population of 2.36 mil, is what? Is what? Go ahead.pr2
- 82%. Sorry for not being specific enough and using a lowered estimate.pr2
- Is the death rate exactly the same everywhere and at every time? NYC got hit hard right at the beginning before they knew how to treat it.yuekit
- as i said, i'm using "conservative" number - meaning when people die more due to all sort of reasons.pr2
- Well if you used a lower number suddenly it makes no sense at all because over 100% of New Yorkers got the virus right? :)yuekit
- So 0.5% is close to the minimum death rate possible in this case. But you don't know that it wasn't 1% or 3%....again, only in NYC not everywhere.yuekit
