- Someone I knew had two uncles die of covid in the beginning of lockdown, similar scenarios, they died alone and the funerals were only attended by two people.PhanLo
- One of the kids my son goes to school with, their dad was dying of it in a care home, his wife was able to visit in PPE to say goodbye. That was 3 months in.PhanLo
- Now it's possible for larger gatherings at funerals and people can visit hospitals and some care homes.PhanLo
- Actually locking down in the first place might have helped these places, but it's not even worth mentioning any more because no-one seems to care.PhanLo

Pinterest pays $89.5 million to cancel lease for new San Francisco offices.
Pinterest canceled its lease for the San Francisco high-rise project 88 Bluxome, seen here in an artist's rendering. Citing coronavirus-inspired workforce changes, Pinterest will pay $89.5 million to cancel a lease on new San Francisco offices.
“As we analyze how our workplace will change in a post-COVID world, we are specifically rethinking where future employees could be based,” said Todd Morgenfeld, head of business operations, in a company press release.

Just read an interesting bit of research coming out from my work that shows that while most kids (2 - 15 y/o) with Covid were totally asymptomatic - gastrointestinal problems (diarrhoea and vomiting) are by far most common symptom, with very few developing a cough, or loss of smell/ taste.
- and they infectious af.sted
- haha, at least they're short. forgot to mention the study also shows they're as likely to develop antibodies as adults. even if asymptomatic.kingsteven
- read it on an internal site but should be available as a preprint today... to inevitably influence some unworkable and ineffective govt. health policy next weekkingsteven
- so what's the plan, get kids infected in schools and use them to grow and harvest antibodies?sted
- Yes, sted! Let's bleed the young!
Even more so than we already are.

News here in Denmark report the first case of a person who was tested positive with covid-19 twice, with a three months gap between each positive test.
They say it could wither be because it was a different strain of the virus, or because a dead part of the original virus was in her body.

- sooo, it's basically the same as the current strategy but with more shielding for the elderly? btw the calculation used to reach 2.13m is pretty idiotic...kingsteven
- "In the United States, with a population of 328 million, reaching a 65 percent threshold for herd immunity may require 2.13 million deaths, assuming the viruskingsteven
- this is a short cut to thinking mentality, jfcwhatthefunk
- has a 1 percent fatality rate, according to an analysis by The Post."kingsteven
- 65 percent is a very high assumption for a threshold (it could be < 20%) and 1% fatality rate is based on deaths per confirmed case.kingsteven
- given that its been shown that the majority fight it off without antibodies AND develop some immunity, serology results are not representative of immunitykingsteven
- not that herd immunity should ever be policy. but we could be closer to the end of this than we think.kingsteven
- if you look at any graphs of areas experiencing a 'second wave' of cases at the end of lockdown the deaths in following weeks are far lower than would bekingsteven
- expected using the initial model, this demonstrates to me that the traditional methods for calculating herd immunity are not fit for purpose.kingsteven
