@monospace replying here because too much to write. quarantine is required at point of first entry. that is Shanghai for me. 'Hotel' staff is in hazmat-style suits, as was all cabin crew on the Air China flight by the way. My Quarantine hotel is in the middle of nowhere. far outsite of the city. I am not sure if it is a badly designed new construction or a hastily converted building. It feels unfinished and messy. when I arrived last night after traveling for 16 hours with only airplane snacks I was told 'no dinner tonight - you want instant noodles ?'
I also realized the room was cold so I complained about it. I was offered an additional blanket as the aircon heating is off. So I slept last night with socks and a sweater. Upon arrival I was given a thermometer to measure and report my temperature twice a day. In the morning I found some crappy breakfast pack in front of the door. apparently provided by China Eastern Airlines. One of the worst. I was just able to eat the yoghurt. When I went downstairs to ask for a solution regarding the heating they threatened me to call the police if I leave my room again. I have been in this hotel for less than 18 hours and I can only advise everyone: Do not come to China while quarantine is a requirement. At least QBN is accessable, even though it is missing a lot of embedded links eg Youtube. I have worked in China before and I already regret coming again.

Exceptions From Wearing Face Masks Adopted In Romania
(Graf, you seem misinformed about the status of your own country, should spend more time reading up about your own region ffs)

...People who are going out for a drink or to eat on the terraces, as well as those smoking, are allowed to take off their face mask.

At the same time, those who are doing individual sports activities (jogging including) are not compelled to wear the mask...

    https://www.romaniajournal.ro/so…

    • lol well it would be pretty hard to eat or smoke with your mask on...

but I see what you're doing, nice try LOL
      grafician
    • but to put everything in perspective for you, here even the homeless people wear masks ! comparing the US with Romania on the covid response is just silly for ugrafician
    • also a friend of mine in Amsterdam he just tweeted he got a 100 euros ticket for riding his bike without a mask, show me the same in the US and I'll bite lolgrafician
    • Curiously, one of the main groups of people here who I see not bothering with masks here in LDN is Romanians.
      So. Ma-cho.

    • Nairn send those macho Romanians back home, I bet they will wear masks here, you get stopped by the police if you're not wearing your mask, no joke!grafician
    • Also is not about being cosmopolitan, it's about being decent, I guess in the US and the UK ppl don't bother, but in most of Europe...grafician

just arrived in China and started my 14-day quarantine. All the actions I have seen being taken in western countries are dwarfed by what is going on here. It is of course horrible and feels like a dystopian nightmare, but it seems to be working.

"US pulls plan to give early vaccine to Santa Claus"

"The US has cancelled plans to offer Santa Claus performers early access to a coronavirus vaccine in exchange for their help in promoting it publicly.

Those who perform as Mrs Claus and elves would also have been eligible for the jabs.

The festive collaboration was part of a $250m (£192m) government campaign to garner celebrity endorsements of vaccinations once they are approved.

But health authorities confirmed the advertising campaign had been scrapped.

Ric Erwin, chairman of the Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santas, called the news "extremely disappointing.""

"LONDON (Reuters) - One of the world’s leading COVID-19 experimental vaccines produces a immune response in both young and old adults, raising hopes of a path out of the gloom and economic destruction wrought by the novel coronavirus."

"The vaccine, developed by the University of Oxford, also triggers lower adverse responses among the elderly, British drug maker AstraZeneca Plc, which is helping manufacture the vaccine, said on Monday."

There were actually disinfectant wipes at my grocery store. I have some lysol wipes I bought on the internet for the second surge for way too much, so I took the opportunity to stock up because I have a feeling there will be a rush on supplied in a month or two and prices will go through the roof. I hate what this pandemic is doing to my general buying habits.

On the flipside, my building gave each apartment a gallon of hand sanitizer. although its more watery than I would prefer, I couldn't be more thrilled.

USA reported 74,000 cases yesterday, France reported 41,000.

And actually many countries in Europe are seeing record number of cases. Meanwhile here in Asia the numbers are still very low.

Is it safe to say the weather does have a significant impact as people guessed early on? If so I wonder how bad it will get during the really cold months.

    • When it's cold, you stay home weekends + evenings... so less people mixing might actually reduce cases.shapesalad
    • Looking at things from France, I wouldn't say weather makes any difference. Most people around me wear masks where mandatory but are super lax otherwisespl33nidoru
