The local bakers have changed the bread they use for the Ham and Peasepudding sandwiches. It's sweeter. But that's not a good thing. It's also more dense.

Vegetarians have ‘substantially lower risk’ of five types of cancer
Study shows lower risk for multiple myeloma as well as pancreatic, prostate, breast and kidney cancersThe research, using data from more than 1.8 million people who were tracked over many years, found that vegetarians had a 21% lower risk of pancreatic cancer, a 12% lower risk of prostate cancer and a 9% lower risk of breast cancer compared with meat eaters. Combined, these cancers account for around a fifth of cancer deaths in the UK.

Went down to Borough Market earlier to have a meet-up with a few friends, some of whom run stalls in there.
Seeing as I was down there, I popped by a place to get some of their absolutely delicious chermoula, as I've not had it for six months or so. My partner popped beside and wanted some bits and pieces too, so insisted on paying and then said to the guy who was weighing out the tub of chermoula I'd asked for "No! Go for the big tub!". I raised my eyebrows at this, seeing how much a small tub cost, but she knows the people down there and has spent a lot of time working there, so I assumed she knew what she was doing.
Anyway, we now have a £25 tub of delicious Moroccan Chimichurri-esque herb marinade, and we're off at the end of the week, so I guess I'm going to be making myself sick on this stuff in the meantime.
I don't mind. It's fucking delicious.
Also, the look on her face when she realised what she'd done was priceless.
- taking notes: chermoula
tnx!uan - If you like Chimichurri, and let's face it - who doesn't? - and you like Levantine or North African food, you'll absolutely love it.Nairn
- Those two are like bacon butties for me - sure, I can make them myself, but they *always* taste better when someone else does it for me.Nairn
- And I'm telling you, i make a mean bacon buttie.Nairn
- Mmmmmmm!monospaced

Cooking for one this evening as the family are having smoked haddock.
Made up a marinade for some chicken thighs earlier - an ad hoc pineapple and turmeric based thing, with a load of spices including smoked paprika. On tasting thought it was missing something so hoyed in some extra bits and pieces and thought "ooh" as I remembered the liquid smoke sitting in the fridge. Added perhaps too big a splash and mixed the chicken in.
I just got the bowl out to put it in the oven, caught a whiff and Oh fuck. It distinctly smellsml of lrefined frankfurter juice. Ho hum.
I'll update later, once eaten.
- I hate typing posts on a phoneNairn
- So, two hours later, it's eaten. It didn't in any way taste of frankfurter, but was disappointingly bland, given how much Shit I thought I threw in. Boo.Nairn
- Remnants will probably taste great tomorrow, scraped, shredded, fried and put into a bun with tahini & mayo sauce, shredded cabbage and melted cheddar.Nairn

Tahini is my new favourite thing.
I used to buy it to make houmous and would do a few batches, get bored and move on and then it would just sit, a half-empty jar lonely and unwanted at the back of my fridge, before a clean out a year later.
I've gone through a whole large jar in a month now. It's great with chicken, it's great with salad, it's great with mayo as an earthy wetness to sandwiches.
Any time I snack, I hoy a glob onto the side of my plate and by Jove, it works with near everything.
- Never tried it other than in houmous. Cheers for the tip!mort_
- yup. i like it better than hummus. you use the raw version or make it?renderedred
- this is the recipe i use: https://www.loveandl…renderedred
- Another fan here. Yoghurt, garlic, tahini + lemon sauce is great, of course with a shawarma. Tahini instead of butter on toast sometimes for me too...MrT
- my fav brand: https://californiama…renderedred
- equal parts tahini and honey for the win! super man energy for the full day or night.AQUTE

- My youngest daugther, she 's vegetarian, loves it too... I've only tried it once. Still in the war between the "primitive omnivore and the Sorosian vegetarian.OBBTKN
- aw yeah! al'fez do tahini in a squeezy bottle, bought it a month ago for falafel as it was the only tahini in the local tesco, it's getting a lot of use.kingsteven
- also recently bought a sesame mill after seeing one on tiktok lol. like a pepper grinder for sesame seeds. it's great with everything...kingsteven
- MrT is right.garbage
- Yotam Ottolenghi uses it as an anal lubricant with his husband. He loves it so much. So versatile!!Ianbolton
- I have a jar in my fridge and didn't know what to do with it. This post is helpful!stoplying
- Oh yeah, stoplying, do MrT's then, as that combo is divine. That said, I now want to try tahini and butter on toast... .Nairn
- @rend - might you be able to get 'fresh' tahini where you're at? Not sure how much difference it'd make, mind:)Nairn
- @nairn, you can, of course. but there is no difference.renderedred
- what we call tahini is tahini sauce of any kind or variety. then there's halwa of course. and raw tahini.renderedred
- Halwa paired with a medium strong English cheddar cheese is a combination to die for. I say 'paired', i mean sandwiched like a mad GodNairn
- don't start me on halwa :)renderedred
- OK, halva and cheese has gone on my to-sandwich list. Cheers!MrT
- woah, just to be clear - I sandwich wee morselets of halva and cheese. An entire sandwich worth would probably leave you catatonic.Nairn

- In all seriousness, unlike my response in the last post, this is great stuff. You don't need loads of it, but mixed with lemon and garlic, it's TAFIanbolton
- Also, i buy the Sicilian lemon juice from Waitrose https://ecom-su-stat…Ianbolton
- < good stuffstoplying
- Just picked this up based solely on this postjbasnight
- Uh oh.
Let us know how you get on with it!Nairn - @ian - out of interest, why do you buy lemon juice in bottles? I somewhat condescendingly explained to my kid on pancake day why I thought people used to buy...Nairn
- ...jif in the the eighties, but now there's no need as fresh lemons are so prevalent and cheap. But now you've got me wondering...Nairn
- I must have trump derangement syndrome, I keep seeing his melon as I scroll down from that yellow cap lol_niko
- Are you girls only just discovering seasame oil or something?Continuity
- Hey Nairn, I buy fresh lemons too, for the skin (grating), cocktails etc, but the Sicilian lemons are so flavourful so i get that for general use.Ianbolton
- also, whats the difference between roasted and toasted sesame street oil?Ianbolton
- Toasted is for dressing + low burn point so you can't cook with it. I've made that mistake before.kingsteven
- @cont no. It's fairly ubiquitous but typically cooking sesame oil or supermarket own brand 'toasted' - v light compared to this.kingsteven
- try this with that. super easy beer side
