Maybe i've posted this earlier in the thread...
When 9/11 happened I was building a game in Flash where you bowled a Haggis towards the NY skyline as if they were skittles and knocked them over. The twin towers were the front pin!
It was a game to promote a Scottish business expo that was to happen in NY.Got a 'ping' on MSN from an ex-colleague who had moved out to the US to work. He told me to check out the news. Then I watched the events unfold.....
Also went and had a word with the project manager to let them know that we should scrap the game!
It was really strange that watching the events online they didn't really sink in. And it wasnt until I was home that evening watching the events on TV that what happened sinked in.
- 19 years ago today I was wearing a 'New York Destroyers' baseball tshirt.Phrenological
- Some events are such outliers that we don’t know how to process and need others to put them in context for us. This is also why conspiracy theories are a thing.nb

- I saw that doc a couple of times. Only shot of first impact I believe? Was very upsetting.fadein11
- and shot from inside the building and the collapse. its upsetting yesBennn
- just saw the opening, amazing that they were filming such a mundane day in the life of NYFD, taking readings from sewers when in a flash, their world changed_niko
- was this the one that was shot from the inside, had a bladerunner feel, people coming out covered in dust, well shot, beautiful and haunting?_niko
- yes, that one. Thats a piece of history, on the first line. Hard to watch.Bennn

Just as a northern English bloke who lived in NYC from 99 and left to San Francisco in August 2001 - I watched in horror ( I will never forget that feeling )
I will never forget x the day the world changed ( for better / for worse ) doesn’t matter - it changed for me and I will never ever forget I took my up the north tower to windows in the world cocktails maybe a month before ?
Still gives me the heebie jeebies
I love nyc x
- the one 'good' thing that came out of that was an upwelling of support from all quarters, eg "Nous sommes tous américains" :.)Nairn

Like microkorg, I've probably already said this, but - I was in my first job in London, sat next to a New Yorker who surprised me with his fairly placcid reaction. It was more expected resignation - I recall him saying something like "well, we've had it coming". Probably one of the first times in my life I stood back from the standard narrative and thought about things in larger terms.
Beyond that - it was just shock. The company closed for the rest of the day, encouraging everyone to go home and be with their families, or whatever. Not sure if it was a sentimental decision or just the blunt realisation that no one was going to achieve anything useful that day.
in the days after, no (fewer?) planes overhead, and when they did start coming back online, y'got the idea everyone's paying the low-flying ones a lot more attention that usual.

- Doesn't look like there was much to the structure overall. Are all skyscrapers like this? I seem to recall the TT used some at the time new production methodNairn
- ..which was even then questionable. I'm probably talking shit.Nairn
- Beautiful pic though.Nairn
- That’s how buildings are built - beautiful pic x_me_
- The "skeleton" around the perimeter (ugh, bad choice of words) aided the interior structure, but this pic makes it look like it was next to nothing.ben_

Was my last year of university, living in a studio with my then girlfriend in Toronto, we had the tv on in the background while making breakfast and the news came on CBC. We called friends there and couldn't get through to anyone for at least 2 or 3 days which was pretty panic inducing, I don't remember anyone really attending classes for a couple months after either. I moved to Barcelona the following year and my Cousin who was stationed in South Korea at the time got dispatched to Afghanistan (then to Iraq, then to Syria). It's crazy to think how long ago this feels and yet how much has happened in the geopolitical landscape in what's really a short period of time since. It seemed like such a haze for those few months or so after this happened.

Controversial 9/11 Flyover Tribute Canceled Amid Outrage
A planned military flyover in New York City on September 11 has been canceled.
The act was to serve as a tribute on the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but outrage quickly poured in from New Yorkers and city officials calling the event tone-deaf and insensitive.
