The shit you said earlier was racist. I have seen you say things all about Jesse Jackson and Spike Lee during and after Katrina too.
- hahah oh man, lies lies lies. Dig it up then and I'll leave this thread forever. Seriously.tommyo
- You're a lying sack of shit Rick.tommyo
- I remember it clearly Spike Lee was racist, Jesse was racist.DrBombay
- Put in context then liar, dig it up.tommyo
- I also remember your opinion on Al Sharpton wasn't very stellar either.DrBombay

So the troll did a great job in stirring shit up, eh?
I see he's disappeared as well.

It is pretty absurd to think that anyone that supports ethnic businesses is racist or wrong ;
If I see a whole on the wall shop I much rather give them the business then a national chain or franchise ,
most hole in the walls are local flavor ; and by supporting these business I hope to see more pop up , Italian, Mexican, Chinese you name it ,
but I do so on the whole basis that they are Ethnic businesses
how is that racist?
- Because Tommy is a fucking idiot.DrBombay
- What you proposed is not racist. I do that too. But go put a 'Support White Businesses' license frame on your ride. Seetommyo
- "hole in the wall"BattleAxe
- how well received you are. It's the same exact thing and it's racist.tommyo
- Not the same, one is a minority that were once slaves and have a low level of buz ownership, so...DrBombay
- ukit0
C'mon, throwing the racist label around doesn't help.
I just don't think tommyo you are thinking this through. Do you object to the NAACP as a black racist organization?
Would you have been writing notes on an NAACP poster back in the 50s and calling it racist?
- ukit0
I mean, how would black people have gained rights in the first place if they didn't form black groups and organizations? Doesn't really make any sense.
- tommyo0
man.. are you guys reading what I wrote or no?
here:
minority groups = great!
advertising that someone should support you ONLY because of your race = bad!
You all seem hell bend on lumping the two together and I see them as different.
- //everyone else has the reading problem... Couldn't be your fault could it?DrBombay
- BattleAxe0
is the NFL racist because they require teams to interview a "minority" when seeking a coaching position ,
are they not just saying.. hey give them a shot , ?
- DrBombay0
The plate frame didn't say "Support Black Business only because We are Black" did it? I didn't see that on the plate.
- They didn't have room obviously :Ptommyo
- you inferred that is what it meant to say, thus showing your prejudice.DrBombay
- HOW IS THAT SHOWING MY PREJUDICE?? Oh man you're rich.tommyo
- If I'm white and I have a license plate frame saying 'Support Black Businesses' I'm a racist! Clear things up for you?tommyo
- I don't get what you are trying to illustrate. Must be reading comprehension problems again.DrBombay
- Even though no one else seems to see it either.DrBombay
- Sorry, well next time I'll just stick my dick in your eye so you can see where I'm comin from. k?tommyo
- Ok high school wrestler.DrBombay

Hey BattleAxe,
I'm with you man (on supporting local ethnic businesses). But the question is, why support these ethnic business? Are you doing it solely for race? If they run a terrible business and lack quality should I still support them just because they are part of a certain ethnic group? This is the real question.
I live in a small town and try to support the local ethnic eateries especially. There are 2 Chinese restaurants in town. Been to both and they are terrible. Now I really want to support them, but I'm not going to eat shitty Chinese food just so I can feel good about supporting minorities. And my wife (who is Chinese!) isn't going to either. Get the point?
- I bet your rural area is a real melting pot of all kinds of white people ;)DrBombay
- It's probably not as bad as you think :) But yes, not much diversity. We do however have a website! http://www.townofmon…designbot
- ...and no I didn't design that POS.designbot
- bad service should not be supported , I'm with youBattleAxe
- *gives BattleAxe high five.designbot
- you go in and give it a shot is all that counts, if they did not win you over , it is on the businessBattleAxe
- yeah that's how I feel as well.designbot

WEEE KANT REEEEADD
- DrBombay0
Here goes Tommy, You got mad after seeing that license plate frame because not unlike Archie Bunker seeing this sort of thing aggravates you. So you write a nasty note and put it on their car and you were extremely proud of yourself. Let's just leave it at that.

If you don't think that there isn't a unique and particular history that needs to be taken into account with regards to African Americans in the context of US History. I can think of no other race that was called out specifically in the Constitution for counting as 3/5ths of a human being, for example.
I'm not necessarily arguing for special treatment in the 21st century, but rather an increased and nuanced awareness of that history which I think would give us all a better understanding of the invisible lines of force this issue still places upon us. I think so many wish to push that history under a rug and say "It's over." But I would argue it has left an indelible stain on our country which we will always have to give acknowledgment to. Even the founders knew the issue was one of deep and profound fissures and even those enlightened guys just kicked the football down the road. I further would argue that it has far more to do with the vile institution of slavery in particular and the evils that came with it, than of race in general.
Again, would just like to pass this along for those who might find it interesting or educational, about how the evils of slavery and their consequences still reverbated strongly until very recently in our history:
- Oh I agree completely. The problem I have is the flaunting of race separation on license plate frames.tommyo
- Good thing you don't live in NYC. The amount of Puerto Rican flags alone would drive you bonkers..TheBlueOne
- again, that's a different thing. I wouldn't call that racism.tommyo
- I was making a joke. Or attempting to...TheBlueOne

I can see where that bumper sticker could be misunderstood.
But I'm pretty sure the guy who put it on there doesn't hate white people. What he's doing is asking black people to help other black people by supporting black owned businesses. Drive through a city like downtown Chicago sometimes and tell me what you see in terms of black/ white divide. The difference between the upscale white neighborhoods and the beaten down black neighborhoods is impossible to ignore. That's the legacy of slavery right there.
- designbot0
^But such a divide exists between whites & other whites as well.
For example in my own town, there is a trailer park of super poor (mostly) white people less than 1/4 mile away from other these other white folks mcmansions (million dollar+ homes). So if you are going to blame that chasm 100% on slavery, you would be hard pressed to explain why it exists among whites and individuals within every other race as well.

Really the only people that are really "racists" and care about knowing and defining your "race" is the US Government.
All the Government is suppose to legally know is how many people live in your house. This has nothing to do with what is your nationality or age, etc. But regardless, the US Census Bureau does give up personal info to the Feds and CIA when they want to round up large groups of people with identical nationalities...
2010's Census form:
http://www.mdp.state.md.us/msdc/…- looks like "Black, African-American or Negro" are all under one category now.robotron3k
- designbot0
^sheesh, lots of that info is none of their business & the government has no right to know.
- only tell them how many people are in your house and don't let them GPS your front door.robotron3k
- designbot0
"...and all your answers are protected by law.."
Well that's great, but it's YOU that I am most fearful of having this information!- pretty soon the Census people will be crawling around cities poking on on peoples lives for the government.robotron3k
- ukit0
Yea I agree designbot, but well, here it is by the numbers
http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/p…
7.8% of non hispanic whites are below the poverty line
vs
24% of blacks are below the poverty line
I mean, damn, 1 in 4. By the way, "below the poverty line" in general means you make < 10k/ year. That works out in hourly pay to the equivalent of $5/ hour. Now obviously that's below minimum wage, but there's a degree of unemployment factored in.
Now think about the guy with the "Support black businesses" bumper sticker and ask yourself how bad is that really.
- This had to do with the earlier stuff, not the last few commentsukit
- designbot0
That percentage IS really high in comparison. I guess the question is "why"?
No question history has certainly had an impact on this. It's not like slavery being abolished suddenly made the playing field even. Part of the problem is, for every real case of misfortune due to these events (mainly, slavery in America), there is an equal number screaming "inequality" and using history as an excuse for all their problems. I suppose recognizing this is important, but getting past it is even more so. The ironic thing is, the efforts that go towards making the playing field more even (sorry for the cheezy metaphor), actually can have the reverse effect and lead to even more segregation. This is my fear, which is deeper than any social hangups I may have with it. Anyway I don't want to beat this thing to death, so sorry to go on about it.
In summary, we all agree:
Slavery = Bad
Racism = Bad- I disagree********
- what's your take?designbot
- me having slaves = good
me being a slave = bad. racism who cares just tribal shit, leave it to the savages********
- I disagree
