OK, boo fucking hoo, you guys can't have a white award show. There's a reason for that. "White pride" was used as a means to enslave, oppress and demean other races in this country for hundreds of years.
Should be fine I think to have pride in your ethnic background, especially when you have collectively been through the struggle of slavery, lynching, segregation, etc. The BET Awards should be the least of your concerns when you consider the history there.

Here let me show you the difference, in a very very easy to understand way.
1. Minority business associations allow business owners access to other owners of their ilk. No problem with this.
2. Having a license frame that advertises to potentially thousands of people a day that we are different. Telling people that they should support a business run by a minority rather than supporting a business solely on their merits. I have a problem with this.
If you don't have a problem promoting racism then good for you. I hope you want to take back all the things you've said in the past about racist rednecks in the south, because that is a lot closer to scenario #2 than it is to #1. I'm sorry but I know that your double standards are popular with many people, the thing I have an issue with is separating people by race in any situation. By my account, you're a bigger racist than I am. It's just that you feel that the evil white man had it coming to him so racism is a-okay when it's perpetuated by a minority.

Whatever your opinions on racism in this country are, I think the whole BET awards show angle is kinda weak. It's very easy to draw out a distinct lineage of African derived cultural arts in this country, and the show basically celebrates the modern forms of them and those who practice them, who are mostly, but not exclusively African Americans. Ditto on the CMT, Latin Music awards, etc. I just watched some Heavy Metal awards show, and there were like three black people there. Whatever. It's not a race issue, it's an art/lineage issue. Just sayin'.

My take:
It's really not hard to understand. If you use race as a way to somehow get support or business, it's wrong. If you ask anyone to support you based solely on race, it's wrong.It's kind of like asking Americans to support "American Business" by buying American made vehicles. Why would I want to do this if they are shit? Should I throw out factors like quality, reliability etc. just so I can support American Business? I would rather buy a Japanese vehicle and it has nothing to do with race...it's because they are much better vehicles.

I would definitely had done the same exact thing if the license frame said: Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Iranian, White, Martian. Asking people to support people solely based on their race is wrong wrong wrong in my book. My only goal is that we stop defining people based on their race, and only support people based on their merits. The position I try to keep is as non-racist as anyone could hope to be because it strives to ONLY view people as the sum of their actions and not their background. But sure, keep calling me racist.
