If you don't think that there isn't a unique and particular history that needs to be taken into account with regards to African Americans in the context of US History. I can think of no other race that was called out specifically in the Constitution for counting as 3/5ths of a human being, for example.

I'm not necessarily arguing for special treatment in the 21st century, but rather an increased and nuanced awareness of that history which I think would give us all a better understanding of the invisible lines of force this issue still places upon us. I think so many wish to push that history under a rug and say "It's over." But I would argue it has left an indelible stain on our country which we will always have to give acknowledgment to. Even the founders knew the issue was one of deep and profound fissures and even those enlightened guys just kicked the football down the road. I further would argue that it has far more to do with the vile institution of slavery in particular and the evils that came with it, than of race in general.

Again, would just like to pass this along for those who might find it interesting or educational, about how the evils of slavery and their consequences still reverbated strongly until very recently in our history:

    • Oh I agree completely. The problem I have is the flaunting of race separation on license plate frames.tommyo
    • Good thing you don't live in NYC. The amount of Puerto Rican flags alone would drive you bonkers..TheBlueOne
