Who's the candidate who's gonna beat Obama in 2012? Romney? Sarah Palin?

    • it may not need to be someone you know now. if the economy doesn't get better that will defeat him.zenmasterfoo
    • Not sure, but Zen is right and Obama lovers are already scratching their heads, asking themselves, WTF?

Regarding Pelosi, I agree TBO it's becoming a target of distraction. I do however believe that stating openly, in public, that the CIA effectively lied to senior government officials to keep this policy of extracting information from terrorists secret is HUGE. Regardless of the Republican attack on her, the allegations she made must be investigated and addressed.

I would rather this whole political drama not take place, as we have pressing things to take care of. But she put herself out there to be criticized by delivering multiple versions of her story, and now she's done herself one more by issuing an accusation that could get some CIA officials fired (or worse) if it's true. If it is I want those guys pursued. The same applies to her.

    • Totally agree. I have no love for Pelosi and wish her gone. But it's smoke and mirrors by the repubs on this one.TheBlueOne

^ Pelosi should be nailed to the wall. Big fucking mouth, thinnking that she can't be touched. And to think that she's 3rd in line to the Presidency. Jesus save us.

Perhaps this will teach those liars how to behave.

    SCENE 1

    INTERIOR: A NORMAL DESIGN OFFICE

Two designers sit at facing desks, outfitted with monitors and other regular desktop materials. A Southern California ocean landscape can be seen out the window to their left. On the back wall is a door, a potted plants. Design and music themed posters line the walls.

DESIGNER #1: Welcome aboard Fred. Kent will be in a bit later to fill you in on some of the details of the project we're currently working on. It's just great to have a new set of eyes and hands on this.

DESIGNER #2: Thanks Dave, it'll take me a few days to get up to speed, but I'm excited about this campaign. [SIPS COFFEE] Wow, this coffee is great. I got it at that little cafe on the corner.

DESIGNER #1: Oh you mean at the Java Hut? Oh yeah, and that girl behind the counter is on hot numb...[COMES TO AN ABRUPT STOP]

SUDDENLY THE DOOR BURSTS OPEN. IN RUSHES A STOCKY MAN WITH DISTINCTIVE, LARGE EYEBROWS. HIS ARMS ARE FLAILING, SPITTLE FLIES FORM HIS MOUTH. A TEABAG IS CLENCHED IN HIS RIGHT HAND.

CRAZED MAN: Ok, you fucking leftists fuckers! How do you like your Socialist President now!? Huh? He's kissing the ass of all of America's enemies! Yeah Dave, I'm looking at you, you fucking leftist! What, just because you read a book you think you're so smart!? Fuck you! I know what's happening! Oh no, you can't fool me! You guys shouldn't even be in this country, you dirty fucking communists! The lot of you!

CRAZE MAN TURNS, EXITS OFFICE. HE CAN BE HEARD FURTHER DOWN THE HALL, OPENING ANOTHER DOOR AND ISSUING A SIMILAR RANT, MUFFLED BY THE WALLS.

DESIGNER #2: What the hell was that? Who was that?

DESIGNER #1: Oh, that's just Will. He does this everyday [GLANCES DOWN AT WRIST WATCH] just about this time. He sorta runs into everyone's office who voted for Obama and just rants for about thirty seconds...

DESIGNER #2: Wow. Well, I'm going to go give that jerk a piece of my mind..

    DESIGNER #1: I wouldn't.

DESIGNER #2: Huh, why not? It's rude and doesn't even make sense, besides, I never even MET him before.

DESIGNER #1: Did you vote for Obama?

DESIGNER #2: Yeah, you know, it was the lesser of two evils really. I mean, I guess I like the guy, but, you know, if you look at the socio-econoomic situat...[IS STOOPED BY DESIGNER #1 RAISING HIS HAND]. What?

DESIGNER #1: See what you're doing there? You're trying to make sense. You know, explaining your position, your thinking...

    DESIGNER #2: Yeah, of course...

DESIGNER #1: Won't change anything. Will will ignore you. At best, he'll say something about teabags. He might even fling one at you.

DESIGNER #2: Well, fuck this. I'm going to go see Jill in HR...

DESIGNER #1: Just let it go. Let it go. It's just Will. It's Will's way. You know, he's just like that. Let him rant.

DESIGNER #2: But it makes no sense, he makes no sense. It's just..

    DESIGNER #1: Just drop it.

DESIGNER #2: [SIGHS. SIPS COFFEE.] That girl IS hot at the coffee joint...

    END SCENE

    • Very, very well done, I must say. And most is even true. Can't wait for scene 2. :-)

"it may not need to be someone you know now. if the economy doesn't get better that will defeat him."

Why? Obama didn't cause the recession. Why should we hand the keys back to the party that created this effed up situation?

I think what you will see in 2012 is that we will have stabilized the economy and the signs of a recovery will clearly be there by then. The worst has already been averted to a large degree. Also don't underestimate the power of incumbency, it's very difficult to beat a sitting president unless they are extremely unpopular, and all signs point to Obama's popularity holding steady or actually rising slightly in the past month.

    • that said, 2012 is quite a while away. If another crisis arises, alot can depend on how Obama handles it.TheBlueOne

^ Ukit: It doesn't matter who started the economic woes. Any President would only be able to hide behind the errors of a past administration for so long. Voters want to see if that current administration can fix them. If the incumbent exhibits he/she cannot, or even make matters worse - they'll vote him/her out.

Job numbers are projected by the administration to get better rapidly, but those expectations seem to be a bit high according to many economic analysts. If those unemployment numbers stay low or even drop, he's in a pickle.

Whilst his numbers have remained steady, we're not yet looking at the full results of this administration's policies on our economy, the war, Israel, etc. We shall see.

    • Jobs will NOT be rising soon enough. Admin prediction = FAIL.
      ********
  • ukit0

Maybe so, I guess I find it hard to believe the economy won't have recovered in three years! Must people (not just the administration) are predicting the beginning of a turnaround this year. The market is up about 200-300 points from its lows.

But more importantly, do they deserve to win? The economy takes a couple years to turn around no matter what. Why should we give the Dems a couple years in office to clean up the Rs mistakes and then kick them out, and put the same party back in power that created the situation? Especially when that party, has not changed a single policy position or shown any sign that they can run things any better? If anything the current crop of leaders looks LESS competent than Bush.

    • Bush was plenty competent to begin with. Not perfect by any stretch, but accomplished some very fine things.

"Why? Obama didn't cause the recession..."

If he didn't cause it, he better hope to hell that his massive spending DOES work, or we are ALL toast...

... I think what you will see in 2012 is that we will have stabilized the economy and the signs of a recovery will clearly be there by then."

Oh yes, since the majority of the spending begins in 2010— how convenient, just in-time for elections, and just in time for Obama to "utilize" this spending during the second half of his term.

"The worst has already been averted to a large degree."

You are fucking kidding, right. If not, you may want to apply for a job as "Mr. Know It All" and "Chief Executive of "Crystal Balls".

"Also don't underestimate the power of incumbency, it's very difficult to beat a sitting president unless they are extremely unpopular, and all signs point to Obama's popularity holding steady or actually rising slightly in the past month."

Obama's POPULARITY remains high, but his APPROVAL has dropped, remarkably, amongst Dems as of late as Obama flips and flops on issues like a fish out of water.

Bottom line is that Obama is (taxing and) spending more than most anticipated. Look to California and 46 other states who are economically broken and ask them if spending is the solution.

  • ukit0
  • TheBlueOne0

"Look to California and 46 other states who are economically broken"

Who broke them? Everyone knows the answer isn't Obama, and this is why Obama is being given the latitude to fix it. The referendum on this won't be 2012, it'll be 2016.

You can continue to rail all you want GR, ain't going to change a thing. Obama is the democrats Reagan, and as much as the dems wailed against the "Great Communicator" it did little good...

    • < Who broke CA? A DEMOCRATIC STATE GOV. That's exactly who, TBO. >
      ********
    • The answer, here in CA, is WAY too much gov spending. Seems kinda similar to what's happening in the WH?tommyo

Bottom line...do I agree with everything Obama does...no.

I guess I could gripe about Obama, but then I think back to the last 8 years...and I think "Aw, hell no!", we are never going back to that.

I bet you will see a lot of people think the same way in the next election.

    • Many that voted for Obama didn't "THINK" much at all. In fact, they were largely politically ignorant. So yes, I can agree with you in a sense.

You also drastically underestimate how much serious damage the Bush administration did to the Republicans. Let alone for the Republicans finally reaping the downsides of the Nixon era Southern Strategy, which was always coming. It'll take more than one or two election cycles to recover, especially for the presidency.

    • Exactly. The Republicans actually need to retool to win again. They haven't even begun.ukit
    • Yes, SERIOUS damage, but the worst may be behind the Rs. No matter. It's all on Obama and the Ds now.

Afghanistan will play perhaps the most important roll in Obama's quest for his 2nd term. Israel/Gaza/Iran, PAK-EEE-STAAN (as Obama pronounces it) and N. Korea are no small potatoes either.

The economy and the balance of his domestic agenda, as he is coming to understand, are tough enough to deal with without full-scale war in a region where wars cannot be won.

In other words, Obama will either become one of the greatest Presidents that we've ever seen, or the very most damaging. Not sure there can be a middle ground here.

    • See dude, why can't you post like this instead of all the "DIE LEFTY SCUM" posts?TheBlueOne

    http://www.politico.com/news/sto…

that said, I agree he can win on name alone , the economy will be fine , but in the next years before election some hotshot repub makes a lot of noise on foreign policies all bets are off,

by 2012 we will still be in Afghanistan and prob Pakistan ,
the handling of the war did Bush in, it could easily blow up in the current Administrations face as well , Obama gained lots of his momentum as a candidate by Opposing the War in Iraq , that gave him plenty of push all the way to the White House ,
if we turn the tide against the Taliban,
landslide for Obama in 2012 otherwise , it will be up in the air

  • zenmasterfoo0

I don't believe there is a tide turner against the Taliban. Not unless we conduct unrestricted, open warfare against them in Pakistan. The likelihood of that happening is slim. With Musharref in - maybe, but now - I doubt it. Hoping they do it with only logistical support from the US is betting the farm and unrealistic.

But let's say Pakistan allows the US or even asks for assistance. Does Obama want to be known for an expansion of the war beyond Afghanistan into Pakistan? Night raids are one thing, sending thousands of troops is yet another. That's a scenario I doubt will come to pass.

  • TheBlueOne0

FFS Obama's been in office for what? Four months? I'd bet dollars to donuts we don't have a clue yet what will be considered the defining theme or event for his presidency yet.

What defined Bush? 9-11. That was nearly two years into his first term. Anything speculation regarding Obama, state of the economy, etc. in 2012 is very premature. Ask me again in mid 2011.
