Why? Obama didn't cause the recession. Why should we hand the keys back to the party that created this effed up situation?
I think what you will see in 2012 is that we will have stabilized the economy and the signs of a recovery will clearly be there by then. The worst has already been averted to a large degree. Also don't underestimate the power of incumbency, it's very difficult to beat a sitting president unless they are extremely unpopular, and all signs point to Obama's popularity holding steady or actually rising slightly in the past month.
