I don't believe there is a tide turner against the Taliban. Not unless we conduct unrestricted, open warfare against them in Pakistan. The likelihood of that happening is slim. With Musharref in - maybe, but now - I doubt it. Hoping they do it with only logistical support from the US is betting the farm and unrealistic.
But let's say Pakistan allows the US or even asks for assistance. Does Obama want to be known for an expansion of the war beyond Afghanistan into Pakistan? Night raids are one thing, sending thousands of troops is yet another. That's a scenario I doubt will come to pass.
