Whenever I ride a train and parents with two toddlers sit next to me, I'm like, fuck. The kids, especially when they're boys just can't sit still a minute. Constant crying, shouting, kicking with their legs. I don't know how these parents do it sometimes but I'm glad I don't have children. And if I ever do, hopefully only girl(s).

    • Much rather have kids sitting next to me than a big sweaty fat f*ck. Once had a guy take up his seat and half of mine on an 8hr flight. With no spare seatsmicrokorg
    • to switch to on the plane.

I guess if you don't want anyone sitting next to you, pony-up and buy the seats around you.

It just hit me that this not-from-concentrate organic coconut water I've been drinking non-stop the last 2 weeks tastes exactly like the sugary milk you gulp down after killing the bowl of cereal once floating in it... I am addicted. <3

I was up on a ladder yesterday cleaning my gutters. Not too high, my house is a one story ranch so about 12 feet up. I grab a handful of dead leaves and notice some bugs flying around. I keep going when all of a sudden I realize that those bugs are wasps, and I've just been stung on the back of my arm. More start flying around me as I clumsily swat them away and try to hop down the ladder without falling, Wasps don't leave a stinger in you but I do still have a red welt. Little fuckers.

I've been walking like Robocop for a couple of weeks now. A low back pain has me doubled. Errrr. Oddly enough, it all started after a lunch that ended with an impromptu dance... Lol

I worked for LinkedIn for the past 13 years, and I only have ONE piece of activity on my profile: a single comment on content that's no longer available:

"I'd agree that correlation ≠ causation, were it not for the fact that I'd rather throw myself into a swimming pool than watch Nicholas Cage in anything."

    What a legacy.

    Gotta be honest about this...

Since I stopped being a regular on here, which is probably more than a decade ago now I imagine, I have continued to drop in at least weekly but sometimes daily.

It has remained a constant source of inspiration, information and entertainment, and it's been a great layby on the information soupy highway that I have remained very fond of, despite not participating.

But it's got smaller and smaller, and less people post, and then lately it's just become a battleground for two aggreived factions to trade barbs.

I don't bother reading that stuff, but when that stuff feels like 70% of what's on here, it gets hard to ignore.

And I have to say that based on the little bits I have read, none of you come out on top, victorious.

I've never read so much petty juvenile barb trading in my life. It seems like an arena that stipulates you lose automatically just by entering it.

This place probably hangs by a thread now. Barely able to justify its continued existence, but please, don't become the palpable reason for it finally spluttering, collapsing, and dying.

Let it die for any other reason than purile tit-for-tat where all contenders sound ridiculous. There may not be much of an audience but the windows are open and it's all here for public record.

Some decorum and dignity would be wise, and this is coming from somebody who had neither quality on display during my active QBN years.

"have you ever talked to a fly?"

    - Sted

    Related, but unrelated...

About 20 years ago I was drifting off to sleep in bed and I felt a house spider crawl over my face - causing me to open my eyes and emerge from my slumber. I watched it scuttle along my duvet and then stand on my bedside table.

I had an empty glass there; not wanting to be roused again, I put the glass over the spider until morning.

I went back to sleep, but I dreamed intensly and vividly about that spider pleading with me from that glass to free it.

As the dream went on, it told me it was short of air, and desperately needed to be released

When I woke up the next morning it was facing me, and on the ceiling of the upturned glass there were speckles of condensation. Just as I had seen it in my dream.

I lifted the glass and the spider seemed to wave one leg in acknowledgement, and then it scuttled off.

Random idea just popped into my head: do you think people ever think up and design a band identity - name, stylistic approach, art, etc. for a band that doesn't exist yet and somehow sell that identity to a new band?

It would have to be a totally new band, I realize that bands rarely "rebrand." But maybe for an established artist starting something new?

No idea if people do this. Just popped into my head while getting some fresh air at work.

    • When you go to behance, I noticed, that a LOT of non US designers make up brands and use them as example projects...canoe
    • There's also tons of premade logos to buy...canoe
    • Am I not understanding your question migs?canoe
    • You're getting it. :)
I had a cool band name pop into my head and immediately had ideas for what it would sound like, look like, etc.
      mg33
    • And I mean "band" as in music (not a misspelling of "brand.")mg33
    • Just no idea if it's common to craft a full fictitious band identity and look for a band that would pay for it.mg33
    • Ex, if someone were looking for a cool name and identity for a doom / psych / shoegaze band, if would be perfect.mg33
    • Egos too strong in bands to have second hand work cut out for them

      Works with other industries tho
      grafician
    • Bands have stories, all kinds of lore, you can never replace that with a new brandgrafician
    • But you can always do that with FMCG brands, a soda is just a soda with a new brandinggrafician
    • Maybe you should launch it yourself? you can partner with a producer/musician. That's roughly the Gorillaz origin story.monNom
    • Or learn a little audio production, lean on AI, whatever. Easy to put your music out there these days.monNom
    • No doubt, but working with artists, they were always the voice and me as a designer was more implementing their vision

Again very strong egos in artists

    • Graf - that all makes sense. Having had bands and come up with names, graphics, sites, it was for sure personal to the story, theme, etc.mg33
    • We changed our name from The Atlantic Divide to Looming Lights after five years when we were gonna try to make a bigger go of things.mg33
