Today at the Google NY offices, I walked past a large open area and it had places to lounge and large brown Teddy Bears everywhere to, I guess, curl up with. I paused for a moment at the site of people sitting next to Teddy Bears — then I noticed others walking right by like it was a totally normal thing, so I quickly acted like it was normal too and kept walking, by trying not to stare and look at who was with what Teddy Bear. When I walked by a bit later I noticed someone had returned the 6'6" Blond Teddy Bear back to the lounge area! And I walked right by, trying not to stare at the people in the Teddy Bear lounge.

fearing for my child's intellect, she yesterday corrected me and said
"No daddy, it wasn't ham, it was chicken, from pigs"
She's 23!!
Not really, she's 6, but still..!

Guys, I need a simple case/bag for my 15" Macbook.
Any recommendations?I've got a laptop bag but am looking for more of a sleeve type thing with a bit of padding and corner protection. Are the phone case type ones tough enough? I am sick of carrying a big laptop bag in my hand luggage. Not looking to spend the £200 Apple want for one.
- keep it in the qbn family: https://www.cocones.…hans_glib
- ^ I checked him out before of course but doesn't do 15".Hayzilla
- My bad he does on the sleeve. But I only really like the grapher one which in only 13".Hayzilla

- ^ Literally a whole fucking thread of NOT what I was asking for asshole. I don't want a backpack!Hayzilla
- ^ And you're too good for the scrotum bag? Fuck you!i_monk
- I have one of these:
https://herschel.ca/…Gnash - The corner protection is meh -- not really meant for drops, though.Gnash
- But keep in mind that your 15" with a sleeve on will probably not fit into the built-in pockets of most computer bags/packs. (it doesn't in mine)Gnash
- Looks great mate thanks. I've found it for £24 somewhere too. Cheers.Hayzilla

Maybe I'm too selfish but having children is so much work and a pain in the ass.
- It's also super rewarding for about 15 minutes a year.PhanLo

- For many people it's akin to giving $250k & nearly every minute of your life, to a friend for 18 yrs, then they say "thanks but fuck off" get their own life.********

I can't watch network television anymore. The ads are so. fucking. annoying. I watched one football game earlier, but just switched this game off because of the ads. Can only watch so many State Farm w/ Aaron Rogers ads before I snap.
- I have had cable for 2 years because it saved us $5 a month if we bundled it. Maybe turned it on once to see what was on.eryx
- When we did all we got was station not available, station not available. Then endless commercials. Said fuck it and watched netflix.eryx
- I haven't watched tv that way in years. Sometimes the commercial blacks are so long you could forget what you were watching all together.shellie
- Quit TV in 2005. All the reasons above and more. Never looked back.********
- *commercial break*shellie
- Since many many years only YouTube and Online Documentaries/ Movies for me. This way I can choose much more specifically what I want to watch.NBQ00
- Netflix content is as full of ads as tv, just no direct spots. The sell out production before the stories are written so brands can adjust stories to them.mekk
- I've not had a TV with network channels on for a good 15 years, so I'm always a bit goggle-eyed and entranced by adverts. For the first hour, anyway.Nairn
- I've been trying to convince my mom to dump cable. She already has and uses all the streaming platforms. Cut the cable box! 100+ bucks a month for nothing.shellie
- She can literally watch all her favorite shows on youtubeTV, hulu, netflix, and HBOgo -- no need for a DVR. She doesn't watch sports or tons of movies, either.shellie

I don't have my own kids and its rare for me to be around other people's kid. But, I've found myself babysitting tonight. Tricking a determined child into bed with a bottom bunk fort feels like a small victory.

During our sunday's bike ride, my dad fell from his bike (fucking road slowing bumps!!) and he lost consciousness for a pair of mins... the longest minutes of my life, immoblised him, an tried to mantain his tongue out while he pants when breathing.
I thought I've lost him when I saw him lying on the road...
Made a brain scaner and everything looks ok, only some scratches, thanks to the helmet. Strong man.
Very sad and still in shock
- shit that's horrid, seeing one's parents in distress. glad to hear he's ok.hans_glib
- Hate to think what would have happened without the helmet. Hope he makes a full recoveryPhanLo
- Hey man, I'm sorry that happened to you. I have been in a similar position and can relate to that level of stress. Good thing it's a false alarm!Maaku
- Sorry to hear. My gf's brother is currently hospitalized and has had to have part of his skull removed after a bike wreck a couple weeks ago.garbage
- And we saw a car vs bike wreck this weekend while walking to the store, which did not help my "I've been riding for 20 years" no helmet argument.garbage
- Hope your father is ok, and it may seem small, but you have a community here if you need to talk.garbage
- I can't begin to imagine.
xNairn - Yikes, man. :( Glad he's okay.PonyBoy
- Oh man... all is good now?********
- Thanks all... Everything is fine, talked with him, healing well, he is angry with the autorities, shouting... "unpainted bumps, bastards!!".OBBTKN
- Ready for another ride this sunday, I hopeOBBTKN

A coworker gave her 2 weeks notice.
First since I've worked at my current position; 7-8 months...
...She was great, spent some good time with her and other co-workers eating, drinking, swimming, etc.
First time i've dealt with a small "shake up" in a long time. Reminds me that professionally these things happens and people are always looking for something better/different/etc. No longer are we working for the same company for 1/4 century +.
*sigh*
- 2 weeks! Thought everywhere was 2 months plus now?dee-dubs

Hit my 5 year anniversary at work in August and didn't even realize that I now get an extra week of vacation each year, 5 total for the year.

Forgot to say, we hired that junior. Her student work was a level above most of the 'real' work we saw from other candidates. I won't really get to work with her until the two teams merge and relocate to the new space in December, though.
- Oh heck yeah!Hayoth
- I hIred a junior based on student work once. Her real world skill didn’t even come close to her portfolio. It was weird.Gnash
- In retrospect, I don’t think I accounted for the amount of guidance she received at school.Gnash
- I hired a Brazil woman because she interviewed great, then she started to come to work everyday in nightclub clothes. Things went South from there...robotron3k
- Her professional work is solid too, but I've now seen enough shitty student work to consider good student work a good sign.i_monk
- She was my first hire, I learned to ask better questions the next time.Gnash

I packed a large and heavy parcel to go earlier. Did it on the top of my worksurface here.
It weighs about 65kg.
i hadn't thought ahead about how I was going to get it off the surface, on to the floor and out of the door.
I just checked a weight/height chart* and this package is about my own weight. How the fuck did I not think that bit ahead?
I'm not as strong as I appear to assume I am.
