I just returned from Buenos Aires. I was on vacation for a few days with my family while in Uruguay, a woman who came from Milan just a week ago, decided to go to a party the same day she landed. Virus spread to several people. There are already 8 cases in this tiny country. I believe that selfishness, lack of Judgment and respect should be punished by law. Public health has already suspended all shows, cinemas, universities, schools, kindergartens ...
ONE PERSON, who was not controlled by the immigration system and who was not noble enough to self-quarantine. Humanity is charging the price of selfishness.

Just heard that my cousin living in LA is hospitalized with severe pneumonia and sepsis. He's in his mid 30s no health issues. They tested him for the virus but results taking forever apparently.
Amazing how this snowballed from watching the news in China a couple months ago to affecting many of us personally.
- oh shit_niko
- Scary. Hope they pull through it. China seems suspiciously quiet recently.shapesalad
- WTF, sepsis?! That's absolutely no bueno.Continuity

Everybody confined at home here, you can only get out to buy some groceries, go to pharmacies, and first necesity activities... included, go to work.
This last is funny, only one person per car to drive to work, and when in the worplace, all together again in a closed space??
Wife gone to work, terrified, with gloves and mask

This will be a test to many agencies, studios and production houses. I'm just talking about businesses in the creative industry. Obviously many others will be hit hard.
Will be curious to see how many can survive this financially. It seems many clients and brands will stop new ad projects.

Pretty much all the creatives/musicians I know are experiencing a massive bloodbath.. gigs cancelled, contracts suspended.. festivals and venues closed until further notice..
Bleak
- Yep. Sound engineer client just cancelled a job we were about to start - he says every one of his bookings this year is goneFax_Benson

"A school Superintendent said something profound in his address cancelling school for the next 3 weeks. “In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be QUITE apparent if we under reacted or did too little.” Hear those words my friends."

Anti-inflammatories may aggravate Covid-19, France advises''''French minister says patients should take paracetamol rather than ibuprofen or cortisone''
https://www.theguardian.com/worl…
''The country’s health minister, Olivier Véran, who is a qualified doctor and neurologist, tweeted on Saturday: “The taking of anti-inflammatories [ibuprofen, cortisone ... ] could be a factor in aggravating the infection. In case of fever, take paracetamol. If you are already taking anti-inflammatory drugs, ask your doctor’s advice.”

What's the deal re self-employed freelance workers?
Seeing political economist types talking about huge gvmnt subsidies for companies to help maintain wages during loss of revenue - maybe 75% on condition of guaranteed no lay-offs, with the aim that stops a demand recession. Can't see that working well enough, and, as auto said, some industries are fucked anyway.
- Yup, this is on my mind - I can't work from home, my partner's not employed (post maternity), and I've not got a clue what would happen if I had 2 weeks offNairn
- Hoping it's an initial panic blanket-cancel and things will level out but I don't think I'll have any work in a few weeks.Fax_Benson
- same fax, seriously worried. It's been hard enough for last 10ish years anyway.fadein11

As we all already know, Tomas Pueyo analysed all the data of the COVID-19 and his conclusion is one reported case of COVID-19 is just the tip of the iceberg of real cases... For every documented case there's 27 undocumented cases.
So in the USA, the real number should be 101,898 infected instead of 3,774

- Some countries aren't or can't test, so the figures reported are academic. The mortality rate is probably a better indication of the scale of infection.monoboy
- But you'd need to take into account population age, healthcare systems, localised pollution, cultural stuff. Very hard to be accurate.monoboy
- Plus the fact that we still don't full know the characteristics of the virus.monoboy
- yeah its trueBennn
- The UK will probably stop testing and reporting both infections and deaths soon.monoboy
- The UK Gov policy of 'herd immunity' sounds like an attempt to keep our economy going and hope that it doesn't overwhelm our health service.monoboy
- But the concept of 'immunity' through infection could be flawed and a massive punt. Some are already raising red flags.monoboy
- But if the economically active can ride it out, you can see the logic.monoboy
- Cold. Hard. Tory logic.monoboy
- Most probably calamitous.monoboy
- by 'some' are already raising red flags... you mean every expertkingsteven
- Most but not all. There are some Drs that have bought into it.monoboy
- The dude that ran the ebola response for the WHO said that every Gov should do everything or anything to try and stop spread.monoboy
- I'm more inclined to believe him.monoboy

the economic fallout - and how it is handled - are going to be the substantial events of 2020/2021.
i am not much of a worrier so i don't see this as a disaster yet, but given how poorly the american government has responded, front-to-back, then there is a serious chance this just overwhelms and destroys the healthcare industry (which, ok, but i worry for the people)
- I'd like to wager many small crimes are at an all time low and this forced Spring Break is an example of American Austerity.robotron3k
