What a boring movie.
A boring version of Star Wars, but maybe Star Wars ripped it off?
No plot, no humor, rich pale people on a ship fighting poor dumb religious, dirty people for no spices?
No cool technology.
- the sand sex was pretty new for hollywood though.uan
- I don’t think you watched Dune 2.Morning_star
- You sound like a racist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Hayoth
- Maybe that's your problem? Always surprises me that people are so comfortable being racist.Hayoth
- maybe watching that new Netflix show where people count their fingers and toes for 12 1-hour eps. is more your level?face_melter
- Omaha sometimes you have me convinced that you are the most ignorant person alive.monospaced
- Just because you couldn’t grasp the plot, and expected humor for some stupid fuck reason, doesn’t make this boring.monospaced
- Sounds like John Wick is more your speed. Just dumb action and humor.m for fucktard idiots who only care about that.monospaced
- NO OFFENSE.monospaced
- I'm not a fan of the pacing and plot and the 'love story' was so clunky and not there but its a solid 10 on production design.webazoot
- How does racism apply here? Maybe that was a joke. I haven't seen the second one yet.CyBrainX

Finally saw part 2, and it was absolutely amazing. This the kind of film I go out of my way to see on the big big screen, and I’m so glad I did. The sound design makes it visceral, and the already intense action scenes have such impact you really feel it. It’s hard for me to get through some of these scenes and even comprehend how someone could label it boring. It is an epic like I’ve not seen before, and the build up for the next (final?) installment was hear pounding. Wow.
- This was the vision this film deserves. It really brought to life one of the finest sci fi stories of all time and did it justice.monospaced
- I can’t wait to see it.Ramanisky2
- Not boring...just a piss poor script and story. I agree that the cinematography and sound design were both stunning. Some of the acting was also pretty lame.utopian
- I was hoping they would get more into the sci-fi aspect of it. The effects of spice, their relationship with it, bending space/travel, spice guild. None of thattoemaas
- But a nice film either waytoemaas
- +1 utopWordsworth
- never will raise cult status like blade runner, alien, 2001 ... etc though...neverscared
- omahadesigns things you talk shitmilfhunter
- It’s hard for me to accept this opinion it’s a bad story when we’re talking about one of the best stories written.monospaced
- Agree that the importance of spice relayed, but not explained well.monospaced
- It reminds me of what an occasion going to the cinema really is. I have a decent set up at home with projector and whatnot, but you can't beat IMAXIanbolton
- Denis Villeneuve really knows how to build a world to get lost in. Even some of the shitty dialogue didn't really bother meIanbolton
- best part was Stilgar and he's unwavering believe. lolpango
- Is Paul Atreides a replicant tho?Nairn
- afaik only the sandworms are replicants...neverscared
- the book is allright ... still they blew the screenplay...neverscared
- A Space Opera comes to mind.utopian

Watched it last night, it was above average at best.
To be honest it was a bit of a let down, more of a soap opera than a sci-fi movie. Dune 2021 was much better.- Any notes without spoilers (I mean I know what going to happen)?
I was planning on watching it on one of the fancy screens tonight.garbage - The cinematography and sound design are both incredible. Buy the story, script and acting were all subpar, bland and kitschy. Still a decent movie to watch.utopian
- i'd agree. it was a bit of a mess, storyline wise. looks and sounds great, but fuck me it was all over the place as far as the plot went.hans_glib
- and christopher walken did not convince as the emperor, he was just christopher walken wandering onto arakis for no apparent reasonhans_glib
- and was it just me or did paul atreides go a bit tetsuo with that cape an' all?hans_glib
- God, I should have listened. Every time there was a good shot, it immediately cut away into some TV movie shit.garbage
- There was no drive, the editing was horrible, the acting was horrible. It had no energy of the first one.garbage
- It had no business even trying to be that long, we walked out with an hour or so left. So fucking boring, they are 100% paying Rotten Tomatoes.garbage
- You walked out? LOLmonospaced
- Ha yeah, not dramatically or anything. I was hungry and the missus was only along for the ride. For one night, we were united in not giving a fuck about Dune.garbage
- I don’t think we saw the same movie. I just saw it and the acting was superb. Editing was masterclass. Story is as close to an archetype of perfectionmonospaced
- The action and pace was heart pounding and non stop. Maybe you’re just not used to thinking movies, or you failed to grasp the story completely?monospaced
- If that was heart-pounding, maybe get your pacemaker checked. While 1p1m isn't cemented, forcing the editors into a matching runtime has its disadvantages.garbage
- But I'm sure you know that, and recognized that the film was full of studio-induced fluff.garbage
- Or you're just constantly foaming at the mouth at me because I know what I'm talking about and you don't.garbage
- Any notes without spoilers (I mean I know what going to happen)?
- HAL90013
Saw it last weekend.
Go see it, its amazing. Its one you want to see in theatre.

All DP heads will enjoy this:
Frasier is likely one of the most innovative DPs working today. Deakins, Bob Elswit etc all have amazing taste, but i think Greig's really going to push the medium forward over the next 20 years, The work on The Batman, the Dune movies, Madalorian – someone to watch for sure.
- For me, Roger Deakins is and always will be the best.Wordsworth
- Oh baby I hear the blues a-callin’, tossed salad and scrambled eggs.nb
- Totally agree Wordsworth, and indeed my fave (along with Elswit) but in terms of harnessing new tech and not being afraid of it, Fraser is great !DaveO
- Noggin0
- Hans Zimmer composes the most uninteresting music ever, he seems a boring person too, which somehow makes sense...rzu-rzu
- sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's just my opinion, duderzu-rzu
- On the flip side, he's potentially the greatest and most broadly influential musician of the modern era, but yeah, boring guy.DaveO

Also all the trailers at the beginning were bad. That's a sign that the movie is bad.
The new Gozilla Kong cgi film looks terrible
- No it isn’t. You just make this shit up and then act like it’s fact? Weird.monospaced

I watched Dune 2 twice this weekend. It was like watching one of my kids in a school production - it's never, ever going to be bad. However appallingly acted, technically inept, shoddily produced my love for their performance abides and defines the experience.
There's so much about the film that rocks hard: Villeneuve's direction, the costume design, the sound design, the cinematography, the score, the art direction... the lore, the humour... Giedi Prime, Feyd-Routha, the final fight scene, The voice, the unborn child, Stilgar, Validimir Harkonen... Paul getting all shouty when he addresses the Fremen... Chani getting rejected... Lady Jessica stoving the Harkonan soldiers head in... Riding the Shai-Hulud...and on and on.
It's imperfect, intricate, magnificent, visually and aurally stunning and if you have the desire? somewhere to lose yourself for 3 hours. I want to watch it again.
Silence!
- ok fine i'll give it another look...hans_glib
- humour?omahadesigns
- nb-1
Do I have to sit thru the first one to enjoy the sequel?
I started the first one twice and couldn’t get more than 15min into it. Oh my yawn another space world where there’s a trade war and a young hero’s journey yawwwwwn zzzzz
I love Villeneuve’s work so much but this story is tired
- I dislike jazz, which is why i generally don't listen to it.Nairn
- I see yeah that’s what I’m looking for Happy to skip this movienb
- PS I love Jazznb
- I can imagine.Nairn

https://static-3.bit…pango - it was written in the 60s. does get a bit cliché. but the writer did subvert the tropepango

- Thanks for the advice chapsnb
- what's the point of trying to suffer 2 if you couldn't be doing with 1? if you burn yourself with a candle flame, do you stick your hand back into again?hans_glib
- If people say the 2nd candle is different, maybe? I’m an adventurous fellownb
- probably not.... the first one lacks emotion and empathy... the second one is no different i guess.....not classic material there in terms of filmmaking..neverscared
- So this isn’t villeneuves derivative story about a space trade war. It’s actually the OG story everything else is derivative of.monospaced
- The story is epic, and it’s been around for many decades. What a weird criticism. The story is a science fi archetype legendmonospaced
- Different strokesnb
- Hope I didn’t offend anyone. I was just asking for your opinions on a movie in the very thread for that movienb
- Well, I for one am offended.
Sorry, 'offensive'. As you were.Nairn - You also implied the story was an unoriginal derivative bore, which obviously it isn’t, because it was a book and is regarded as a very good storymonospaced
- I too am deeply offended! I can't even enjoy my night now!pango
- I've read the canon books, and I agree they're not antiquated. Villeneuve 1 was amazing. Villeneuve 2 was harrowingly boring..garbage
- The pacing, the editing, the misuse of MCU shots. It felt like it was made in the mud. I tried rewatching it, and still couldn't.garbage
- I had hope because ol' V seemed to have finally caught Dune by the tale, but 2 is an absolute yawnfest.garbage
- I probs stil watch it, tho I know they will be zero inspo compared to the books. The first ones were waaaay to goodmaikel
- Watch it at home with the fast forward ready. The rare times that you start seeing something interesting..garbage
- ..it divorces itself from the cinematic interest of the first one, and falls into teen romance and sloppy foreverism.garbage
- It might sound insane, but P2 accomplishes the unimaginable: A Dune attempt that lasts too long.garbage
- It's the rise of Hitler, but in space.robthelad
- calm down... its only one mans opinion on filmaking... or a couple of more...neverscared

on Morning_star's advice i went back for another look (it's cheap on mondays, see). having had my expectations dashed on the first showing i wasn't expecting a loth and i have to say it was much better as a result.
there are still a couple of sections that need cutting out, and christopher walken still phones it in as emperor, but otherwise i enjoyed it much more than when i first saw it. fabulous visuals, fabulous sound and for some reason the plot stumbled along a lot better than on the first showing.
so thank you Morning_star!
- You're very welcome. A second viewing is definitely the key.Morning_star
- Walken and Pugh were disappointing. An empire of excesses, they should have raised the bar in some way.i_monk
- To hear that Pugh was disappointing hurts a bit. Normally, she's a first-rate scene stealer.Continuity
- Definitely think walken is the weakest part of it. They needed some one with more menace/gravitas.thumb_screws
- +1 Pugh and Walken didn't belong in this onegrafician
- ^ why not try Sienna Miller and Russell Crowe?grafician
- I think Pugh was good but Walken definitly didnt fit in there, his playing and caracter doesnt work.HAL9001
- interview said Pugh will have more to do next movie. like how zendaya was barely in the first movie.pango
- Reckon a Gary Oldman, Hugo Weaving or Jeremy Irons would of worked better. I thought Pugh was ok.thumb_screws
- She was nondescript compared to Lady Fenring.i_monk

I watched a bit of the original Dune on Friday night and holy hell on wheels, YUCK.
- hydro747
- haha there was definitely a moment of this where stilgar tells his men that paul refusing to accept he's the one means that he is definitely the onehans_glib
- ^ I laughed out loud when Stilgar delivered that line because it reminded me of https://www.youtube.…GM278
- lolsted
- everyone chuckled in the theatre when that line came up.pango
