anyone else experiencing anything strange with Illy?

    • oh jeez, thanks for the heads'up.Nairn
    • yea, fuck me, i decide to update before new project came infuturefood
    • do you not still have the previous version installed, to use?Nairn
    • Sorry, sounded aggressive - I mean, every time i update, the previous version stays installed - is that the same with you?Nairn
    • just installed 2019, hopefully that worksfuturefood
    • I tried stepping back a version in 2020, that helped, thanks!futurefood
    • Still on 2019grafician
    • my rig at home is on 2019. Just started updating work computer to try 2020 and already running into issues.futurefood

Can anyone please tell me how to adjust the width of columns?!
I have two columns in the Area Type and I used to be able to either hover with the pointer over the edge of the column and the pointer symbol would change and then I could drag to change the size or I would click the Cell Style button.

Can't find anything by searching online and also nothing in my Adobe illustrator Manual..WTF?!

    • Pick Area Type, click on the canvas, write something, go to the left of the area type in the corner, click on that little icon, expand the area type into a secografician
    • second column and the type in the first area type will follow into the second column and you can resize the column from the middle-right sidegrafician
    • Should be a little icon where I put the RED OVAL in this image https://i.imgur.com/…grafician
    • Ai 2019grafician
    • Another method: draw a rectangle as a frame, go to Menu - Object - Path - Split into grid and pop-up will appear where you can set the columnsgrafician
    • After you set your columns, pick the Area Type tool, click in the column, write, then adjust the column width as a rectangle widthgrafician
    • Here's an example: https://imgur.com/a/…grafician
    • wow! thanks a lot! it's a bit more complicated than before but it works. it feels like they downgraded it and we went back to use a work around.oey_oey
    • Well stop upgrading to the latest versions if you want to still work I guess?grafician
    • Btw I never read the Illustrator manual, there is one?! lol I just learn everything as I gografician
    • as in "uuh what dis button do? waaa"grafician
    • ^ Yes I used to do that too. But when I'm in a hurry and don't remember a tool how it's made cause haven't done it in a long time I check quickly.oey_oey
    • ^still have no clue how blending modes work in Adobe apps after 15 years, but I'm OK with that too lolgrafician

Seriously. Who is making these decisions?

    • Haha, I was just thinking thatformed
    • Acrobat team brings the big bucks so they can do whatever they like...grafician

All of this hate aside, I JUST got accepted into the Adobe Illustrator for iPad Beta!!!

Between the above and a stable font management solution, I am feeling positive about the validity of the "Post-PC era" dream of days past.

Lord, get me forever away from this desk.

Now, all we need is XCode / a valid code editor.

    : )

    • +helloeatbreathedrive
    • Who else is beta?!

I'm anxiously awaiting the final step of receiving the "TestFlight" invite...

...Man, the $750-ish USD a year has finally paid off.

      Lolz.
      ideaist
    • is that what they're referring to when they talk about someone being a "beta cuck"?

      =D

    • If it's anything like Ps for the iPad then good luck. Almost a year later and it is still pure shite.face_melter
    • Affinity apps on iPad are way ahead of anything Adobe can mockupgrafician
    • Even with Affinity I felt the workflow just wasn't there, kind of frustrating. It should be possible to create real design apps for iPad but no one seems toyuekit
    • be willing to put in the effort to do it.yuekit
    • The main hassle is moving work between platforms, hell, even between different apps is a fucking ballache. iOS file sharing is pure fresh hell.face_melter
    • ^ Yeah a lot of truth here; along with the font management "mess" it still feels like 1 foot in the future and 1 in the past.ideaist
    • I'm in no rush to see tablets transplant computers in productivity, but I'd be curious to see a version of Illy that used gestures *and* voice commandsNairn
    • Like, being able to describe a rectangle by hand but at the same time dictate "Adobe - Zoom" and "Adobe - Height: 20cm, Width: 25cm" or something.Nairn
    • (spot who doesn't work with other people...)

The above would be hell in a large open plan office, I grant thee.

So Adobe have nuked WinTab integration and made a bollocks of it by going all in with Windows Ink with the latest Ps update.

I fucking knew something was up when I updated mine and my Wacoms suddenly lost all pen pressure, even when using the custom Config file. WinTab has worked for like, 400 years without problems and doesn't throw up those shitty, shitty, shitty popups when pressing a modifier key - even when you supposedly disable them using admin settings (if you have Windows Pro). I use modifiers a ton when working and painting and the popups get in the way of the pen cursor and make it jump. Wretched.

I rolled back to the previous version and everything works again. Holy fucking shit. With every update there's always fucking something.

    • Stay on that 2019 version FOREVER! It's like they work to make it worse with any new version! grrrrrgrafician
    • Yep, all my cracked versions are 2019, no issues whatsoever! :)helloeatbreathedrive
    • The 21.2.1 version has been the best version in a long time (for me). Fixed a few things with layers and groups which were causing me strife.face_melter

Lightroom App Update Wipes Users’ Photos and Presets, Adobe Says they are ‘Not Recoverable’

This morning, multiple readers wrote in to alert us to a major Adobe gaffe. It seems the latest update to the Lightroom app for iPhone and iPad inadvertently wiped users’ photos and presets that were not already synced to the cloud. Adobe has confirmed that there is no way to get them back.

The issue first cropped up on the Photoshop feedback forums two days ago, when the Lightroom app on iOS was updated to version 5.4. A user named Mohamad Alif Eqnur posted asking why all of his photos, presets, and watermark data had been removed after updating to the most recent version through the iOS app store.

This was followed by replies from other users saying that the same thing happened to them, whether or not they were subscription based or free. One user posted to Reddit’s r/Lightroom subreddit saying that they had lost “2+ years of edits” after the update.

“I’ve talked with customer service for 4+ hours over the past 2 days and just a minute ago they told me that the issue has no fix and that these lost photos are unrecoverable,” wrote the user. “Adobe is unbelievable some times. All I got was a ‘we’re sincerely sorry’ and nothing else. 2+ years of photo edits just gone because of Adobe and all they give is a sorry, lmao.”

    ....

UPDATE 8/20/20: Adobe has posted a small update to the Adobe Help site. It’s largely the same as the statement shared above, but it re-clarifies that Lightroom on Android, the Desktop, and Lightroom Classic were not affected, and encourages users who lost data to try using iPhone or iPad backups to recover their work.

Anyone else getting a bunch of CEPHtmlEngine processes dragging their CPU down?

Driving me nuts, but too busy to try and untangle this mess of a fix.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/au/x-pro…

    • Kill the Adobe desktop manager...grafician
    • shite HTML5 render engine, you can kill that process in the activity monitor or try to close the libraries see what happens.sted
    • they're related to that, and if you kill the manager, you'll have just 5-6 of these running but with 0% CPU timegrafician
    • also yes, as sted stated correctly, don't run any Adobe Libraries, they clog the system, as they run in the background uploading stuffgrafician
    • Adobe Libraries and Cloud upload your saves incrementally in the background to the Adobe Cloud, if you're not working in a team, kill thatgrafician
    • Yeah. there was a fix to this a few pages back. Fixint it will swap problem - instead, you'll get a load of temp files generated that'll fill up your HD. Yaay?Nairn

You need to pay the secret 5$/month to have the stable version of their programs.

But first you have to be a member of Adobe Elite Pro Club™ .... only 12$/month.

You have to be invited by someone to get in the AEPClub™

I have one invite left. I can sell it to someone in here for 2,000$ ... worth around 3,500$ on eBay.

    • you forgot that it requires a $5k depositsted
    • Fax me the invite, can send you a mail cheque from overseasgrafician
    • Ill give you $7000 thats my final offermoldero
    • sorry moldero i wont accept anything higher than 2K. Some says selling it at a higher price brings bad Adobe karma and make their apps crash.Bennn

It really is mind boggling how slow AE is to render.

20 years later, many generations of faster computers later.... and am still sitting here waiting for renders to spit out.

And these are super basic comps. Just some glows, blurs and noise on illustrator layers. 4:3 HD. Not even 4k or any shit like that.

    • are you rendering from 1 hd to the same hd caching on the same hd?
because somewhere along the road I learned that the hds are the bottleneck and not the cpus.
      uan
    • Project on one HD, Cache on another, Render Destination another... still slow. And AE glow sucks, looks awful. Renders painfully slow. Deepglow FTWshapesalad
    • Sometimes when AE is slow it's tied to some sort of memory bloat with CPU or GPU. I've rebooted and the same project renders like butter.evilpeacock
    • It's terrible! I can't get it to use more than 50% of my CPU, meanwhile Resolve blasts through everything at a 100%!!zarkonite
    • Convolution fx (like glow or blur) can get computationally intensive when large kernels are used. Try box blur if possible.seldon
    • If vector layers are set to cont. rasterize, comps can get heavy.seldon
    • I get you can optimize your comp, but the point is that it's not utilizing the whole CPU/GPU so no matter what it will be slower than the competition.zarkonite

I really fucking hate the canvas rotation "tool". I'm always accidentally rotating that shit when I mean to zoom. Can't even turn it off. If you know a way to kill it, please for the love of god, tell me.

    • < photoshop btwayport
    • delete the keyboard shortcut or remove it from the toolbar - there's an option in the toolbar edit to disable shortcuts that aren't visible on the bar.face_melter

yea, just fuck them.. fuck adobe.

they have this stupid bug/error with 30-bit displays and, of course, im on 5k 30-bit.

    fix that shit quick...

I may have mentioned this before but fuck the AE animation graph editor. Worst POS of all time. I can never get the keyframe interpolation/ smoothness/ velocity right or it takes hours to get it right because it's such a POS compared to animation graph-editors like in some 3D animation tools.

On top of that if you want to get bezier-handles you have to split apart the dimensions of XYZ and as soon as you do that it messes up all the keyframe bezier in the conversion and you have to start over tweaking.

    WTF

    • Cinema 4D's graph editor is so much better. And they improved it a lot with R23. You can copy and paste easing from one keyframe to another.CyBrainX
    • Sounds like you're doing it wrong...shapesalad
    • go back to timeline, select keyframes, right click or set up a keyboard short cut for interpolation, tick continuous in/out speed. problemo solved.shapesalad
    • No shape, that’s not it. I’m not a newbieNBQ00

Just updated all the apps from 2020 to 2021 ... Photoshop and Animate 2021, flakey as fuck, crash every time (first time in along time). do not un-isntall the previous versions - you might need them still.

    (iMac retina 5k, 2014 running Catalina 10.15.7)

    • Damn @Bluejam; running smooth & steady here on Big Sur Public Beta 10.

I assume they'll cut off all the folks running on older machines, os's, etc...
