Can I use my work login on my home computer and not pay for myself?
My work gave me Creative Suite under my work email.
- Yup.Gnash
- Will they know? Not that it matters.
Can I use both at the same time?omahadesigns - You get two computer installs per CC license, so they should know and not care.evilpeacock
- You're fine. You can use both simultaneously.Gnash
- yes, once logged in, buy little snitch and block the connection, then quit your job and work freelance on a free copy of CS. Only problem you can't update.shapesalad

i really wish there was a way to move UI elements around on programs like Illustrator (this is prod for one of you genius' to go "Nairn you thicko, that's been do-able since CS1").
One function I use a heck of a lot - and have done for 12 years now, in what I do - is 'select similar objects' I click on an asset and use this function to select all assets with the same feature, be it colour or stroke thickness or whatever.
Last update, Adobe added 'Start editing similar shapes together' which outwardly sounds useful, but isn't really (for me, anyway).
The icon for this sits at the right of the 'control' menu, whereas before the right-most icon was the function I use.
There's over a decade's worth of muscle memory making me press the new functon many times each day. It's driving me fucking nuts.
- You can do that in Macromedia Freehand. Similar to C4D, create custom panels of freq used menu items/tools... Oh, no wait, Adobe bought that and killed it.shapesalad
- I use Symbols to do things like that. They aren't just for Flash export; Think of them as AI's equivalent to PS's Smart Objects.evilpeacock
- That's not really how I use the function - I'm not making design work with re-used assets as such, I'm ensuring that all like-assets are treated the same for prNairn
- ..ocessing via a machine. It's basically CAD, but not fucking CAD.Nairn

I may have posted this before:
WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I HAVE 2 PROJECTS (or 2 AE app windows) open at the same time?
It's 2020.
Sigh.
- one project open, import the other project into that one.shapesalad
- 2 computers, duhGnash
- No why would i want to import projects into each other that don’t belong together in one fileNBQ00

YOU'VE REACHED YOUR DEVICE ACTIVATION LIMIT.
*stares blankly at desktop and laptop that are side by side, with Illy only open on the desktop, which for some reason CC seems to have forgotten the name of (Lazarus is the desktop, Tichy the laptop).
- "sign out of all other computers" - should be pretty easy to fix?zarkonite
- Yeah, it was easily fixable (except for having to dig out Adobe password) I just don't see why it was broken in the first place as I was on one of the computersNairn
- Dig out? Are you 90 and write them down on a post it? Use a password manager.ArmandoEstrada
- No. But thanks.Nairn
- Dig out as in digging out that safe you buried in the backyard with these gold coins?Bennn
- Exactly!Nairn

Anyone here ever experience problems opening a PSD in one version of PS, whilst it loads OK in another?
My laptop runs PS 2020 whereas my work machine here is on 2014.
A client's layer and Bitmap-heavy file runs ok in my older version of PS, but simply won't function properly on my laptop - it'll load, but then it seizes PS up totally. If I show/hide a layer, I have to force a screen redraw to effect the change (eg. by tabbing the tools palettes away and back again). If I try and DO anything with the file, it's just refuses to budge. It's so fucked I can't even flatten layers or save out a copy and see if that makes any difference. So odd.
It's not a resource issue either - my laptop actually has more RAM than my desktop here, and Task Manager was saying PS was only taking 2 and a bit gig.
I've never in my 24-odd years of using PS encountered something like this.
- affinity photo.
just sayinghans_glib - Funny you should say that - the client's just sent me an .afdesign file, which is a first. His useless designer hasn't got a fucking clue what they're doing.Nairn
- Oh God, He's made the logo from a mix of vector and masked bitmaps. Nnngh. I fucking hate dealing with shitty designers who don't know their craft.Nairn
- No idea, but hell yes that is super weird. Photoshop is a mish-mash of code for sure, but as long as you've got "maximum compatibility" on, files open wherever.evilpeacock
- Maybe it's the graphics acceleration on the laptop? Shared ram for GPU and CPU? Try turning off the GPU acceleration and see if it helps.monNom
- Yeah, that was the first thing I thought monNom (well, first technical thing - I thought many expletives prior). No dice.Nairn
- Had the same problem recently opening an old file. I don't have a fix, I just slowly extracted what I needed and moved on...zarkonite

I have been working on a local XD file for a week. They push a new version of XD (that I don't update to) and suddenly the file won't open and XD says file was created with a newer version. How the hell considering its the same file and the same ver of XD that worked all week. Fuck Adobe.
- nb2
- paying a for storage.hotroddy
- Nope. The PS+LR +1TB plan is $19.99/monb
- Adobe will gift you 900GB of cloud storage plus pay you $1 per month to own Lightroom.nb

- lol. in that case it doesn't makes sensehotroddy
- I pay a little above that for the entire suiteGnash
- @Gnash How??nb
- I reached out 2 weeks ago and said it’s too expensive. Asked if they could offer a deal of some kind. First offer was $29/month PLUS 3-months free (12 month)Gnash

Trying to add an mp3 file in a page creates a bunch of meaningless warnings.
First it says "To view the Flash technology content in this PDF, please install Flash player"
Then when I click on it "3D content has been disabled. Enable this feature if you trust this document" warning appears?
What 3D document, what Flash file ffs??
Does anybody know how to do this?
- well how exactly do you add a mp3 file in a pdf?! and why?! and yes, that shit was possible because of flash, but like 10 years agografician
- Its a presentation deck, client wanted to put a sound sample. I guess I'll transfer the assets to ppt.Beeswax
- You're doing the right thing. Acrotwat Pro puts audio under the 'rich media' tool, which also contains 3D, both of which use Flash...MrT
- If you OK the 3D pref and install Flash it will work. A bit clunky, but then there's PPT.MrT
- I trust that the 'trust' malarkey doesn't appear for the end user. But Adobe so probably.MrT
- I have Flash players on this 2008 machine, I can open any swf I want now finally!grafician
- Your poor machine, born in the GFC, reborn in COVID : )MrT
- @MrT word! :)) I had the entire CS5 on it, including Flash Fireworks all thatgrafician
- The Adobe PDF format only supports certain media types via Flash Player (mp3, mp4, etc). Basically, don't use audio and video in a PDF.fyoucher1

"The team at Adobe Fonts is hard at work improving our service"
https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/be…
Retiring fonts. It must be awfully hard work to keep up this level of service.
- This will happen more and more. It’s not adobe’s fault, really. The foundries can make more on their own once they have the infrastructure set upGnash
- Not unlike Disney, et al, pulling content off NetflixGnash
- I can see that, but isn't it also a cynically-added feature to justify the increasing $$$? And being like Disney only confirms their cuntery : )MrT
- tip: use that font stack on your websites now, after they retire the fonts, the css/font stack will still work from their cachegrafician
- I would but I don’t do any web stuffs. I just do grumpy.MrT
- Lol, TGnash
- Take a look at Monotype's pay per total views licensing. Fonts are going to get more and more expensive.nb
- Yup. It’s gonna get harder and harder to get clients to spend on thatGnash

Just now is literally the only time I've been happy to see an Adobe pop-up informing me that I have 3 App Updates available.
The internet in the studios here has been off all day (Thank you, Virgin Media) so I've had my phone with a very shitty data package linked to my laptop, only using email and using only low-fi web pages.
Just saw the pop up in the corner of my eye on the desktop, and it could mean only one thing - Creative Cloud was talking to the Mothership, and that means I have proper internet again
- So they might as well include internet access in that subscription?grafician
