My Sober-tober is almost officially over. I've made it 30 days without a drop of alcohol with no problem at all. I went to a concert without going to the bar multiple times and not having judge when the new slow song was going to be played so I could go to the bathroom. I met some friends out and ordered a mocktail and some soda waters. Bought some non alcoholic IPS's for my cravings but they weren't very good so I only drank three of them all month. I went to the gym a few times a week. Started eating better and managed to lose 8 lbs in a month.
I didn't even raid my fully stocked liquor cabinet although beer was my problem and not the hard stuff.
I was thinking of drinking a few beers tonight while I took my kids trick or treating but I'm actually really enjoying this moment of sobriety and not being hung over every morning.- cool! Was wondering how this was going for you. I'm gonna try for a sober-november.sarahfailin
- Nice work! I'm 14 days into my sober test drive. Planning to keep going until end of Nov.e-wo
- Every morning? I'm glad that's over, keep it up!Maaku
- Good on you. But non-alcoholic IPAs? That's worse than IPAs.garbage
- Inspiring @fooler; on a NO-vem-BEER starting today. Looking forward to many of things you seem to have enjoyed about sobriety.ideaist
- I stopped drinking for 10 weeks now. I will only drink at events like my own birthday. Want to stay away from alcohol for the rest. My life improved impressive.SimonFFM

SOBER'TOBER!
I'm going to attempt a sober October. It's going to be hard. I've been drinking everyday for years. Just an IPA at lunch and/or 2 at happy hour... a few during a football game or soccer match. Its starting to add up. I'm not at a Leaving Las Vegas level of alcoholism but I think my craft beer "hobby" is disguising my dependence. Plus I'm 25 lbs over my ideal weight.
I took 3 months off about 2 years ago and lost about 15 lbs but I gained it all back and I've been drinking more then I did then.
Wish me luck. I'm going to need it.- Godspeed @fooler.
Going to do a NO-vem-BE(E)R over here for November. Journal your ups and downs on here.
: )ideaist - good luck manrenderedred
- Day 4 of no alcohol and going to the gym everyday and I catch a nasty head cold and sore throat. I think the alcohol was keeping the germs away.fooler

Do any of you do intermittent fasting?
I’ve been familiar with it for a while and my barber swears by it. I get the science behind it and the benefit of packing roughly 2 1/2 meals into 8 hours and being able to have those meals be more substantial than if you were starting the day with a decent breakfast.
So, I started today and was so much more easily able to plot out my food for the day and stick to my 40:30:30 macros, protein, fat, carbs. It was easier to apply and IIFYM approach and allow for moderate bad stuff like ice cream.
7am - 12pm was a struggle but that might have been because I had vitamins and supplements on an empty stomach. Once I had an electrolyte drink that I usually have each morning, I felt better. Also had lots of green tea.
I’m intrigued by the claims of energy and/or reduced brain fog by way of the fasted period and not starting the day potentially with shitty high-glycemic carbs and sugar.
I hope it’s not wishful thinking but I can envision finding the same enjoyment with this that I do Keto: a strict regimented approach to eating with plenty of research and anecdotal success stories to back it up, and a sort of gamification mindset in which I have to carefully plan my food to stay within my macros.
- interesting. was thinking of starting - especially if it counters brain fog.inteliboy
- Do you plan on eating mechanically for the rest of your life?zarkonite
- I love eating, cooking, sharing meals with family and friends to much to make my meals a task. But I admire you, you sound like a very focused guy.dmay
- NBQ00-2
- Do you really believe in this? Or do you share this just for trolling?dmay
- Why trolling? You don't think that many foods and superfooods contain anti-oxidants?NBQ00
- I don’t get my medical information in YouTube videos, this is what science knows about anti-oxidants and cancer: https://www.cancer.g…dmay
- Yeah as if it's not scientifically proven that certain foods contain anti-oxidants.NBQ00
- Have you read the link? “Overall, these nine randomized controlled clinical trials did not provide evidence that dietary antioxidant supplements are beneficial”dmay
- ‘in primary cancer prevention’. I’m not saying that foods don’t have anti-oxidants. I’m saying that there are no studies that prove their effectivenessdmay
- So there are not foods that kill cancer. Or do you have studies that claim otherwise?dmay

Anyone ever tried taking Rhodiole and/or Ashwagandha??
Those are adaptogen plants and you can buy it as natural supplements, i stumbled on this by looking on nootropic thing mg33 taljed about in the CBD thread.
Those two are supposed to be good for stress, anxiety principally and a bunch of other things.
- MrsT buys ashwagandha tea for bedtime, hard to say but I sleep well after it. Much anecdote.MrT

One year sober today. :)
Going to Italy for two weeks next month.
What to do.
- Well, they have a civilised manner of providing decent food alongside drink orders, so unless you're tee-total now, just enjoy yourself.Nairn
- Italy? Why not get drunk?
j/k, enjoy their food acompained with waterOBBTKN - Italians are world renowned for their fruit-based sparkling waters.
Congrats on sobriety; i've looked into it, but unable to maintain.ideaist - Dude they make non-alcoholic wine. It's called Grape Juice.mg33
- I'm 9 hours sober!imbecile
- wait, nevermind. not anymore. back to zero.imbecile
- when you say sober, do you mean liquor or any "drug" substance?imbecile
- Alcohol and weed. Booze is not the problem it’s weed! But an alcohol buzz always makes me crave the ganj.HijoDMaite
- i feel you there. we've all got our vices. congrats on the willpowerimbecile
- Weed is legal in Italy now - they have shops on many high streets selling it! When I say 'weed' I mean ultra-low THC content, so knock yourself out! (or, don't)Nairn
- Good on you, keep it up! Did you try to develop a new hobby or something to keep your focus elsewhere? Any tricks you can share?zarkonite
- Sorry, my responses here look like I don't give a shit about your success - if you're not wanting to drink, you'll be fine. Just fat, because you'll eat lots!Nairn
- Honestly I look at it as a growing up experience. Smoking weed just makes me stupid and lazy. I don’t want to be like that.HijoDMaite
- Some people can be casual smokers, I cannot. Some people can have success in life while potheads I cannot.HijoDMaite
- And yes I basically threw myself in to vintage cameras and film photography. Two things I didn’t know shit about. Spent many weekends tweaking out on gear.HijoDMaite
- It brings me joy to fix them and joy to show film images. So I have things to look forward to just like beer and bud used to be.HijoDMaite

Heads up...
Been eating almonds. Thinking they are good healthy snack, especially when slammed with work and finding time to at least not eat rubbish.
100g = 587calories.
This is the equivalent to 2 Big Macs.
Holy shit. No more almonds for me.
- just do 50g almonds + 50g 88% chocolate, much healthier...robotron3k
- Those are 500 calories are good ones, though.Gnash
- applies to all nutsdrgs
- there's more to it than that. The physica structure of nuts is such that it's very hard to break down and digest, so you're not really getting all thosezarkonite
- calories. It slows down your digestion as well so it'll let your system have more time to absorb what it needs. You can read more science here:zarkonite
- https://www.ncbi.nlm…
(Married to a dr of nutrition, I've been brainwashed with this stuff)zarkonite - "... epidemiologic studies and clinical trials suggest that regular nut consumption is unlikely to contribute to obesity and may even help in weight loss."zarkonite

German Scientists Say Spinach Should Be Banned In Sports
A study released by Freie Universitat Berlin suggests that ecdysterone, a chemical found in the leafy green vegetable, has a similar effect to steroids and should be added to the list of substances banned in sport, CNN affiliate RTL reported.
- I knew Popeye was doing dope, there's no way that he could beat Brutus in a fair worldBeeswax
- fuck offmonospaced
- That was toward any scientists who suggest spinach should be banned. Turns out there aren’t any. The study nor the findings have nothing to do with spinach.monospaced
