Can't we just have some state of the art computer with a $1000 Apple tax? Sheesh why is it so overkill? Who tf pays six grand for a fucking display, I mean come on all we wanted was a 30" sized MacBook Pro display with a stand.

  • ernexbcn1

4999 dollars in 2010 was a 12 core Mac Pro tower with 1TB of storage.

As I recall, the cheese grater (base model) were between 2-3 thousand USD.

I think it's a bit ridiculous the base model is now 5999 and comes with 256GB of storage. Even the iMac Pro comes with 1TB in the base model, plus a monitor and about 1K less.

    • I thought cost wise it compares with PCs (minus apples ridiculous storage costs)?inteliboy
    • I mean it's not "just an SSD", it's one of those that uses PCIe lanes to get ridiculous speeds, but I find 256GB way too lowernexbcn

I think I'm pretty much done with Apple. Custom PC with a nice BenQ display does it for me

    so a decent build machine with a i9900K(8core) and 6GB ddr6 gpu - 32gb ram (PC4 25600) probably 1tb 970 probably set you back around 2K.

The available ram possible seems a bit of a joke to me. great on paper but how many slots you need for 32-64 Gb ram modules to max out? Very curious about pci lanes and architecture of the board. I have never needed xeons, not using software needing them, but curious about xeon architecture now because at face value i think those pci slots are likely wasted.

Absolutely surprised too if they go back to tower form they didnt try to coin some sort of liquid cooling system or even use one. I really wonder about heat issues on any max specc'd systems using more inline to todays specs and not aspirational 1.5TB of ram stuff.

    • Are you complaining BEFORE buying one and using it to its full potential, or...? why care otherwise?!grafician
    • to max the RAM you'd need the 24 or the 28 core plus filling the 12 slots with 128GB DIMMsernexbcn
    • you didn't even account for the real use cases nor the special video processing hardware you CANNOT get anywhere else, at allmonospaced
    • so there is 12 slots for ram? and a 128gb on new egg is about 13K... haha well leave it to those that its economically feasibledeathboy
    • any info on the pci slots and how many lines are available to the processors including m.2 sata and what not?deathboy
    • im not complaining as much as trying to sort out the layered consumerist apple machine. why would i have anything to complain about knowing? I know base specs ideathboy
    • can do far cheaper for MY graphic work. i know ill never need xeons and i can always choose a x299 if i need more cores at a lesser pricedeathboy
    • i just hate how apple sells to obsufucates what they sell. I think the real pros know hardware, and the fakes are priced out at this pointdeathboy
    • can they sell enough base models after trash can to idiots is the question. Im leaning towards no. especially since visual look was a big sellerdeathboy
    • and this i think will be hard to resonate with.deathboy

New Mac Pro going to be fast in some super weird setup that no one uses but still give you the gay wheel when opening up a fucking photoshop file.

Two cutters I know just recently switched from the old cheese grater to the 18 core iMac Pro and they say the difference in speed is not nearly what they paid for. Still sluggish with premiere etc.

Guess they will fall for it _another_ time and upgrade to their next gen shit and will be disappointed once again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But hey, their new display is cool as fuck, although no one will really need it. But still, cool as fuck with their independently calibrated LED's.

    • Premiere is an issue because of Adobe as they mostly support Nvidia/ Cuda.NBQ00
    • "gay wheel"? What fucking age are you?Poochie
    • so Apple keeps on bitching how professional they are but don't even support the most basic of all basic industry standards. pathetic.mekk
    • @Poochie I call this color ball a gaywheel, because of rainbow flag. Nothing offensive here :-) lots of love <3mekk
    • might rename it to the ever spinning wheel of love?mekk
    • Issues with Adobe are Adobe's fault. No matter how fast the Mac, Ps will always crash or do something weird, didn't u got used to it after all these years?grafician
    • I'm not heavy using it on a mac so idcmekk
    • I know entire studios that have countless real scenarios where they need this speed, and it's not remotely weird.monospaced

These new display and the Mac Pro are for pros and businesses, knowing how long tech last, only a few years, investing all that money in these for an individual would be a very bad choice, unless that individual has lots of money to burn.

    • Thanks Bennnnnnnnn!Ianbolton
