These new display and the Mac Pro are for pros and businesses, knowing how long tech last, only a few years, investing all that money in these for an individual would be a very bad choice, unless that individual has lots of money to burn.
- Thanks Bennnnnnnnn!Ianbolton
- What kinds of "businesses" buy such hardware? I'm working in advertising for half of my life++ and never seen anything exceed eizos top tier lineup and the likemekk
- how long tech last? my macpro1,1 is over 10 yrs old and still going strong.hans_glib

- @mekk post-production, video editing, effects, sound studios, etc. - the Pro market - the guys with the moneys. Advertising barely affords top of the line iMacsgrafician
- I never understood how can someone use the same computer for over 10 years... But if it makes the job for you, goodBennn
- i guess i prefer to waste my money on wine, women and song, rather than shiny new tech that does exactly what the old tech did.hans_glib
- Well, then they'll continue to shed users. Pricing regular people out of products doesn't retain them.section_014
- pros i know (video post/pre, animation and sound editing) buy these things for representation and as a desktop extension for the specialized hardware :Dsted
- only bullshit artists need this type of stuff right now.sted
- broadcast monitors cost around 7k-20k+. pretty basic shit if you've ever dabbled in video. surprised this is even a question on qbn.inteliboy
- and they all rush out and buy apple now and enjoy genius bar support? Stuff is expensive because support and I don't see Apple leading here by farmekk
- It's upgradeable, supposedly. With all those PCI slots, it's kinda built to outlast it's own current tech. We'll see.monospaced
- @sted, you really need to come check out some of the cutting edge video boutiques around me, because they MORE than need this kind of machine.monospaced
- A twitter thread from a guy that handles Macs for the Pro industry: https://twitter.com/…grafician
- ^ from link: "tl;dr: The Mac Pro and display fill a large gap in Apple's professional product line. Prices are reasonable for the professional user....Gnash
- ".... If you want one at home, you are an idiot."Gnash
- Well, looks like they went all out! All out of everyone's fucking price range. Jesus fucking Christ, Apple!davey_g
- $900 is not bad for a monitor standGnash
- #Bennnsplanation of the day! LOL! Thanks, BennnKrassy
- This is my purposeBennn
- good for finance co's that are doing big data crunching.shapesalad
- @monospaced i'm not saying that there is no market for this product. if you don't have the option to just burn money on new hw in every yearsted
- apple hardware wasn't your choice.sted
- and i I think apple will be interesting again.sted
- @sted, you said anyone who needs this is a "bullshit artist" as if you couldn't even imagine a scenario. How was I supposed to interpret that nonsense?monospaced
- literally today I could USE this machine to crunch through 18 8k renders that we need for a bespoke projection mapping project going live on Thursdaymonospaced
- I guarantee it's not bullshit. We spent $12K to build an equivalent rig and it's made up of several machines and GPUs (none Mac). And it's probably slower.monospaced

see NVIDIA Quadro server solution for video post production at 0:36 :) this was just 4k in 2016 :)sted - what i'm trying to explain that this is a good path but this hardware isn't forward looking as it should be, and i'm afraid that it won't inspire anythingsted
- sure it is ... but you are counting Afterburner, which is the secret weapon that not even NVIDIA is matchingmonospaced
- "... capable of handling up to three streams of 8K ProRes RAW or 12 streams of 4K ProRes RAW" FREEING UP the GPUs for processingmonospaced
- I can't imagine anyone anywhere that could possibly claim that isn't forward thinking or inspiring.monospaced
- nostalgia for sure :) ProRes RAW is like mov and this new machine is like the 2006 macpro with a more closed packaging.sted
- lol okmonospaced
- Mac Pro is for pro’s?
Bugger me.MrT
