if you doing print or web work. you really don't need the top of the line. your shit won't be done any better or faster.
if you're going to rendering 3d and video stuff. yep. then power up.
- ...to a pc that runs professional 3d software********
- yeah right, maya on mac is for kids.akrokdesign

the Dell i builded got 12Gb of RAM and its RAID 0, just with that Iam more powerful than the base Mac Pro.
- akrokdesign0
ok. the dell is more powerful. go with that then. case closed.
- coming from a guy who demands conversation, you don't do well with opposing views********
- hah...you know how long the whole mac vs pc shit will go. it will never end.akrokdesign
- and you, add nothing as usual. right?akrokdesign
- i know Mac vs PC battle is endless.benfal99
- yep. :-Dakrokdesign

seriously, Dell and Apple are using the same parts... Intel, ATI etc. The main difference is the OS. I never worked with Windows 7, is it good?

Range Rover HSE - 80k
Kia Sportage - 32kBoth will get you from point A to point B, but the Range Rover will get you laid more often on the way.
Think about it.
- different engineering altogether, while i would like to support this i can not********
- say something about toyota and lexus though, that would probably work********
- can't you just imagine i said that and we'll call it even captain trivial details?kona
- you think a Mac Pro will get me laid?benfal99
- no... because you're ugly.
JK!!! hahahakona - range rover will spend a week in the shop for every 4 weeks on the road. Kia will probably go til 300k with just oil changes.monNom
- just sayin'monNom

- canuck0
just get the dell.

@benfal pc spec
the processor is THE best out, incredible overclocker, can get to 4.4GHz on air alone!
cpu info here-
http://www.anandtech.com/show/40…Ram is 1333mhz, 16000mhz is preferred, but when you have 12 gig of the stuff i dont think it matters! never heard of the ram manufacturer though, but you'll have the dell warranty.
The graphics card isnt great, so if you're doing any gaming be warned. You'll just about be able to run old first person shooter like left for dead -
http://www.tomshardware.com/revi…another great GPU source -
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/G…Hard drives are good, raid is very fast but if one drive fails you lose data on both drives (as they act as one drive), for the money you're spending id get a solid state drive and a normal drive, one to work on (SSD) and one to store stuff on (normal drive). The ssd drive is mega fast, boots v quickly too.
Overall it looks good, but with the changes ive added, which will cost more.
which brings me to this...i say...BUILD IT YOURSELF.
its so easy, its like lego and will save you quite a bit of cash and best of all you can customize it as you like (SSd etc).hope that helps!!
(be aware the more ram sticks you have in your machine the harder it is to overclock, as the north bridge on the motherboard has to work harder to perform the overclocks, so you may struggle with all that ram, but tbh, you wont need to overclock)
- Graphic's cards are cheap to upgrade. You can probably get at GTX 460 for under $200 these days.canuck
- well said canuck, a gtx 460 would be an excellent choice.
its the best bang for buck card there is, or an ati 5850.Hombre_Lobo - just gotta make sure the motherboard is decent enough for it, pci-express slots etc, 16x or 8x etc.Hombre_Lobo
- dont think you can overclock a dell moboepigraph
- Hombre_Lobo0
As always consider do you need all that power.
an i5 2600k, 8gb ram, SSD system would satisfy most hardcore 3d and video enthusiast's, but its not worth spending all that cash if you dont need it.

Computer specs are essentially just resources available to an operating system. Whether or not windows uses those resources more efficiently or Mac OS does, is up for debate, but based on my experience my macs have lasted years longer than my wife's PCs just based on speed/performance over time as software gets updates, etc.

hey, while you at it. time to switch your gf to a bf. lol. much cheaper.
- GF = osx
BF = win7akrokdesign - oooooooooooh snap!sofakingbanned

you can buy the most expensive paints and brushes on the market, but without practical skill and innate talent, i'm sure a talented artist could create something better with his fingers and a rag, likely in less time.
the tool will not do anything better inherently and from application to application the faster processor response varies from os to os. inevitably you'll waste more time deciding what to do than it will executing said function.
a poor craftsman blames his tools.
results are in the execution.- < this__TM

What do you fellas use the operating system for? Aren't you using software by Adobe, generally?

I will close this thread with this quote:
" You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."
Think about it.

Tech Support - this is where Apple is waaaaay behind. If you get Dell's Gold Tech Support you'll get amazing support (I've never waited more than a few minutes on the phone, parts show up with an installer at my door within a day or two)
Beyond that:
Apple = Pretty, feels like a great investment (emphasis on 'feels')
PC = soso looks, questionable build quality
Performance = same parts, same performance
NOTE: That Range Rover vs. Kia is a poor comparison. Those are two entirely different products (engines, design, materials, etc.). PC and Apple use the same internals, difference is pretty skin.
- <benfal99
- tech support. I HAVE NEVER CALLED THEM OR TEXT THEM.akrokdesign
- oh, and i run osx. THAT MIGHT BE WHY I DONT NEED TECH SUPPORT.akrokdesign
- actually. most of the shit in the cars are all made by BOSCH. kind a like INTEL.akrokdesign
- It is the hardware the fails, NOT the software. The hardware is the same, therefore equal chance of failure (it was a Quadro card I had replaced)formed
- a Quadro card replaced).
As fr BOSCH, you'll have to show me, I've never heard of engines being made by an outside source for a mainstream autoformed - outside source for a mainstream auto

what odds said. Also, I remind you gents that a few years ago, these companies were selling us machines with half the RAM and processing speed and calling it state of the art. Well, has the work you do doubled in processing demand since then? If so, then maybe a 12GB machine is what you need. If not, think about other factors first.
- oddslob0
different tools for different fools yea, but faster is better. im not sitting for 3 hours while a video renders, or having to go make a sandwich cuz some fuckwit college kid thought making a company banner at 1200 DPI @ 30 feet x 4 feet was the way to go about it.
- ********0
Don;t listen to the Mac heads. This place is full of a bunch of 'kool-aid' drinking fucktards. Do what works for your needs.
- ********0
Of course faster is better oddslob, just saying, let's not lose our grip on reality in terms of what you "have to have."
Video and 3D demand more shit. If you are editing HTML (i.e., editing a text file), 12GB may not in fact be necessary.
