85k in NYC is crap. Years of experience simply don't matter. it's all about the work. 7 years xp should get you at least 100k in NYC. If you're an AD and at a real agency, at least 110k. At least.
- Cost of living in NY is way above LA. Nearly 100% spike. But you won't need a car. Still need more for NY I agree.nthkl
- agree that cost of living is more in n.y.akrok
- it's not entirely crap, matedoublespaced

Is the dollar so devaluated, I make less than half of this in Euro and I live a pretty confortable life.
is really 85k not enough?
- Peter0
The average income in the most expensive city in the world is about half of 85k.

IN CALI: 85k = to 4,400k a month after taxes (if ur single). If you live alone your paying at least 1200 in rent/month in LA. If you have school debt, car lease, and social/food expenses your basically breaking even.
- my first car costed $1100. haha.akrok
- I thought taxes were supposed to be low in the US.monNom

Tons of people live happily in NYC on about $85K. As hotroddy posted above, ~$4,000/mo. can be tight, but isn't unrealistic. One can rent a studio ($1,500), pay bills ($500), and have fun ($1,000 food/drink/drugs) with a little leftover for incidentals. I personally wouldn't take a lower salary, but it isn't impossible as some people have so vehemently declared.

^ You won't have a car. Most rent includes all of your utilities. Living in NYC sounds tough, but once you're here you realize that a lot of expenses aren't included.
