what debate?
who's naked?

Granted us 'designers' hate on this thing but there is obviously a market for it. People like my girlfriend - who only use basic productivity software and browse the internet - really need nothing more than a machine like this. I think coupled with the attractive, lightweight design this would appeal to a very large demographic.
But seriously - how fucking good is apple at creating 'desire' - this thing is sharp!
- eh...********
- troll much?d_rek
- people like that should get an 11" netbook for $300. no reason this should be 1kmonNom
- exactly, and my old boss, who couldn't use photoshop...robulation
- BUT wanted to appear design-savvy and cool...think he just about knew iphotorobulation
- eh...

Just got the 11 inch one, bloody brilliant, it is tiny, yet has a great keyboard, I have a samsung N310 but the keyboard is just too small to use seriously... this allows for netbook sized portability with a keyboard just like my macbook pro or wireless keyboard...
only downside is I have to put XP on it with IE6 as using it to test jQuery sites :(

I'm wondering how well it would run serato. Because that would be perfect for DJ'ing. Could fit the thing in my record crate with my vinyls.
- how would you install?********
- go to serato.com and hit the download button on the home page ffs.kona
- is that really going to be the basis for your argument?!? lol.kona
- the idea that we still need physical discs to function is absurd.********
- 2gb ram and 64gb storage sounds small... probably need a built-to-order with more for bothkpl
- Upgrade the RAM sure. Don't need much for an internal disk space. External HD for the music library.soundsinsilence
- with not enough ports for external soundcard you might have to drag some adapters besides the serat hardware thoughMiguex
- how would you install?

wait a second...
you're defending this thing and it's lack of cd drive and all you suggest is that you download the app from a server?
so you'd rather wait instead of it be instant and instead of depending in cds, you're putting all your dependency in online installs?
mac fan boys will do anything to defend the shiny apple won't they?
how long to install via online vs a solid disk?
say maybe you're in a plane or somewhere with no connectivity but you've got this disk that won't go in anything
strange brainwashed lot you are
- not judging, just noting********
- talk about narrow minded. you go ahead, stick with your old tech, discs, and zip drives bud.kona
- isn't the external cd rom is available?pango
- when was the last time you used your cd / dvd drive in a non emergency situation? exactly .seanhaus
- Let me guess, you're a Microsoft guy still using floppy disks...********
- i reckon downloading is faster than shipping and perhaps even driving to the store.ephix

Brainwashed, huh.
Here's how you distribute programs on CDs:
- Get app ready
- Make gold master disc
- Mass-produce discs
- Mass-produce the packaging and manuals
- Ship giant palettes to retailers
- Retailers sells each piece one-by-one, while paying for inventory costs and passing them down to the consumer.
- Optional: Another shipment, if buying online
- User gets package after driving to store or waiting for the fucking UPS driver to come (they said it was out for delivery dammit)
- User discard CD after 10 years. Hope it doesn't pollute too much.Direct Download:
- Get app ready
- Put on server
- Have people download the app- yeah i said it. then i didn't read your long post********
- bingokona
- it's bullet-pointed, usa today style. you dont have to read it to figure out how wrong you are.kpl
- er, bingo kpl.kona
- actually more than that kpl. multiple sid matrix, tracking tests, test burns before production and so on.kona
- Not to mention Apple's moving to an App Store for their computers. Who installs from CD's anyways?soundsinsilence
- yeah i said it. then i didn't read your long post

$1000+ for a fucking core 2 duo?
Jesus. They should have at least put in an i3.
- with a C2D it should be $600 tops.
TOPS.******** - couldn't use i3. apple would have to use a really, really crappy intel gpu if they went to i3.kpl
- no they wouldn't.********
- Why do you say that?********
- with a C2D it should be $600 tops.
- ********0
The i3 mobile chip has an integrated GPU inside the chip itself, it does not require any other chipset on the motherboard.
The reason Apple went with C2D is because they had tons of unused motherboards from the unsold Macbook Airs of last generation. Which is why they are using the same, slow as fuck Samsung SSD with less performance than 5400rpm hard drives (and no TRIM).
- see this article: http://arstechnica.c…kpl
- also, i3 w/ gpu < c2d w/ nvidiakpl
- see below********

idk... i think im good with my ipad. other wise i need something with a lot more power. hence powerbook. il pass on this mac book.
- ********0
@kpl
You can have both and in fact increase the battery life.
It's what the 10 and 12-hour Ultraportable laptops do. They use Nvidia's Optimus to change between low-power integrated on the i3 and the GT310, GT320 and GT335M when needed.
- and then there's the limited footprint... that works with 15" but not 13". seriously, read that article.kpl
- i3+Nvidia gives you more power & better battery life than C2D+Nvidia********

hmmm, top that

so.....even when pc parts prevail and old macintosh hardware went to the wayside as intel chips were shoved inside silver boxes, you still say pcs suck though they are the only reason apple is still around.
so weird.

mac: paying extra for sleek, light-weight design with minimal specs
pc: getting the best performance/price without as much concern for looksfor laptops, that is.
- rtfa, rtfa, rtfa. danke.kpl
- Doesn't change anything. I'm not just talking about the MBAir.********
- All Mac laptops.********

it's funny that out of all places, even here on qbn people can't seem to grasp the value of A+ industrial design...
considering design is what most of us do for a living.
- the question is: is that design worth the extra hundreds of dollars for inferior hardware?********
- I'd hate to see how you pitch/quote projects.inteliboy
- What projects?********
- And if you aren't paying extra for design, what are you paying for?
Do tell.******** - Because I can link laptops with similar specs for much cheaper.********
- are you joking?inteliboy
- No, are you?
Can't answer a simple question?******** - What are you paying for? if not the design?********
- Good design costs a premium. If it didn't we'd all be fucked.madmanGerald
- the question is: is that design worth the extra hundreds of dollars for inferior hardware?
- lowimpakt0
specifically, what makes it A+ industrial design?
- seriously? u can't just look at the damn thing and tell? are u a designer? am i in a parallel (retarded) universe right now?********
- i'm an industrial designer.lowimpakt
- then you should be able to tell that it's light years ahead of any other laptop out there.********
- seriously? u can't just look at the damn thing and tell? are u a designer? am i in a parallel (retarded) universe right now?
- inteliboy0
started writing a list of things - fekk it. if you can't see the damn obvious and somewhat impressive R&D and design choices apple have made here... well, i'm just baffled. It's an absolute non-debate.
- ********0
inteliboy, if you aren't paying extra for the design, what are you paying for?
- Simple question.********
- i, personally, am paying extra for the design.********
- Exactly. I don't know why inteliboy thinks I am crazy for saying that.********
- wait... what.. i think we're saying the same thing. Yes, you're paying extra for design - some of which may be subjective.inteliboy
- Simple question.
