the most expensive netbook on the market LOL
After all the garbage and BS from Jobs how netbooks are dying and the future is in the tablets (cough cough iPad)..
God I hate that fucking man.. such a hypocrite and a douche-bag.
And so is anyone who buys this POS useless piece of crap for $1000+ to show off how they have money and how thin it is.
One thing, despite being pointless is that it's nicely designed.. Johnny Ive did a great job again.

You can't expect much from window users who took 2 years before they figured out floppy disks were useless. I think it would be safe for you guys to just stop your blabbering hatin', and just keep following the Mac lead. What would you guys know about innovation?

Quick check on google for core 2 duo notebooks w/ smallish screens:
MSI X-Slim X350: $874
Dell Vostro v13: $499
Panasonic Toughbook 12": $1734
Asus ASUS UL30A-A2: $799So apple is on the high range, but nowhere near the highest, like usual. The $200-400 netbooks all have atom cpus. I don't see where Apple is overcharging, unless you're one of those jerks that thinks good design should be free.
- Boz0
$1000 is for the basic model... with pathetic 64gb of disk space that's SEALED FUCKING IN.. on the board.. and 11"
Plus you are comparing a 13.4" screen laptop at $870 to a fucking $11" MBA .. wtf are you even comparing.. Compare it to the 13.3" MBA that costs like $1700+
Please.. why do you have the need to defend Apple's overcharging for shit.. they are greedy fuckers and we all know it.
Let's just agree.. it looks great.. but it's totally closed up netbook that you can't do shit to upgrade and it costs you 2-3 more then PC netbooks.
If you want more memory, tough shit.. if you want more disk space tough shit.. if you want hdmi output, tough shit..
It is, what it is..

I really want one!
Would be great for surfing on the couch and showing clients my photos. I was thinking about an ipad but this just seems cooler.

64gb. didn't mention it's solid state. uh-huh.
kept calling it a netbook, but it's not a netbook. You put Atoms in netbooks, not core 2 duos in a netbook, at least a netbook in 2007. See wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net…
lack of upgradability: eh. Here's another way to upgrade: sell the whole computer. The Apple brand still has some nice resale value on ebay. Bit of a hassle, but at least the ram you just upgraded isn't going to waste.
2-3 times more expensive... utter bullshit. The HP Envy 13 is $1,500 on Amazon.
No one is arguing it's a premium. But it's like comparing toyotas to hyundais and screaming the price increase is from EVIL GREED. The selective reading of facts bug me, you're being way too disingenuous, and I'm bored. And I'm on your case. congrats.

How many people here who are trashing the Air actually own one? I got one through work, and it's the only thing I travel with. It's amazing for that. I couldn't imagine trying to travel with my MBP again.... so heavy and annoying, especially for light travel.
I see it as the new iMac basically. I'd buy one again... I *can do design work on it, but not really well, but it works when I need it to when on travel or away from my home.
It's interesting to read all the hate messages from people who have probably never used this for more than 3 minutes at the store :/
- jfletcher0
I also have a Sony Vaio netbook.... now *that was a waste of money.... holy shit.
- haha yeah I have a dell mini and I dont love it.slappy
- hah. sweet.akrokdesign

btw jetSkii.. dont' take my "shits" and "fucks" as personal attack.. I just like to swear. Makes me furiously awesome :)
Btw.. kpl 64gb solid state drive is still 64gb of storage and soldiered onto the motherboard. So yeah, it is retarded if you need more storage you have to buy a new MBA.
Processor type is irrelevant to call it a netbook.. Atom process was used in a lot of htem because of it's low power consumption not because it's a definition of netbook.
Definition of netbook:
"Netbooks are a category of small, lightweight, and inexpensive laptop computers. At their inception in late 2007 — as smaller notebooks optimized for low weight and low cost[1] — netbooks omitted certain features (e.g., the optical drive), featured smaller screens and keyboards, and offered reduced specification and computing power. Over the course of their evolution, netbooks have ranged in size from below 5" screen diagonal[2] to 12".So.. 13.3" MBA is not a netbook.. 11" one is. That's what they actually announced this "back to mac event". 13.3" just got a new specs.
HP Envy can wipe the FLOOR with Mac Book AIR.. wtf are you even comparing..
Please.. stop trying to compare and prove how Apple is not overpriced.. it is and very much so. Do you think it's worth, that's another story..but don't fucking try to make everyone believe it's not.. it is..
And to say if you want to upgrade it's awesome.. because you can sell you laptop is completely asinine.. It's not true that Macs hold that much value anymore.. they are not..
I have a mac pro 8core 2008 that ain't worth shit now..
I would comment on why Apple is a pinnacle of evil and greed in tech industry but I really don't give that much shit right now and I have some stuff to do.. but they are.. their business model is telling the whole story.

I recorded some thoughts on the new mac for you guys to see

Apple could take a Pentium 4, slap it into the same case, and their fanboys would still be defending it. Jobs could remove all the internal hardware for the MacBook Air 2 and fill it with warm, fresh human feces.... and still Apple fanboys would shell out $599 to use it as a stylish paper weight.
Apple is fucking pro at marketing. Other companies need to take cues and learn from them.
- Miguex0
I heard that if nazis were still around, they would probably be using apple computers.
- ********0
I'm saying Apple is awesome. They have their customer base in the palm of their hand. That's marketing and branding talent.
- well, google does too. Anyway, will you admit there are rational Apple users who aren't fanboys?kpl
- Of course they are... but you can't deny that they have an incredibly strong following and brand loyalty********
- there are*********
- yep..the following is because most Apple users are shielded from bad news and bad things about Apple products.. and when they do hear about it it's all propaganda and a non issues because people hate Apple's awesomnessBoz

- you are asking if $400 is worth the design in a design forum? How about I ask you to do crappy work for $400 off?fooler2
- Design work is the same as how a laptop looks?********
- I value functionality over form in computing devices... but maybe I'm just strange like that?********
- the size and price are *huge to me as a frequent traveler... Air's won't take over the market, but they have their place...jfletcher
- someone had to "design" it and it looks better than that gateway so yes, I'd pay the extra $fooler2
- I think they have their place as well... I just thought it'd be interesting to see how much -design- can be valued for laptops********
- Interesting fooler... What would be your cutoff price? Would you pay 2x for good design?********
- ...and size and form factor.sublocked
- I'll be honest... if the Air was a bit cheaper (600-700) I'd buy it********
- at the same resolution, 15.6" < 11.6". Willing to bet it uses a TN/dithered display tookpl
- the fuck do you need 4 USB ports for. and ethernet? seriously?********
- Additional storage... you'll fill up 64GB fast********
- Ethernet for gigabit computer-to-computer transfer, faster connections when ethernet is available********
- people who want to buy this thing aren't the types who need more than 64GB.********
- these are internet surfers and Word document makers. not fucking 3D animators.********
- i think you're missing the point of this product. you are not the target for it... don't buy it. simple as that.********
- it's more than double the air's weight - you'd bloody expect it to have better specs. fuck people are stupid.inteliboy
- but it's 15" and heavy. isn't the whole point being thin, small, and light?pango
- did you actually put this chart together? lol.mcmillions
- he cant afford the air but the green color makes him feel betterohmygodiamhere
- ********0
Oh and here's the link in case anyone wants better price/performance than the Air offers
- kpl0
The one thing about these charts that is funny is that it assumes the bigger number is always the better number. Like Refrigerator Perry is always the better football player because he's bigger and taller than Walter Payton. Perry's contract probably was less too.
MBA is a ultralight-portable. The Gateway is not. If you spend days and weeks on the road as a reporter, that extra 2.40 lbs makes up for the $400 premium in a heartbeat.

I agree it can be worth it for some people.
But a newer CPU with a faster speed (read: almost double) *is* a good thing. The i5 beats the piss out of a C2D. Trust me.
Larger GB of storage = generally good too... and USB ports...GB of memory....
But yeah, I agree that screen size isn't always bigger=better.
- of course its a good thing. but not always the important thing. fast CPU, small package, small price: pick any two.kpl
- what do you need more than two usb ports for?********
- peripherals like additional storage (64GB is small)********
- and********
- and 4 of them.... usb thumb drives, camera shit, keypads, registers, and shit.... 4 > 2********
- http://www.networkte…********
- my god. who fucking realistically uses all that shit.. and at once? i bet your house is jam-packed with clutter... isn't it...********
