I'll be honest. I wish I could get away with presenting something like this. Do you think you would feel bad creating a terrible logo if you only worked on it for 5 minutes and got paid a grip of cash?
I would love to have the person who presented this in all my meetings. I would never have to do any long hours for little pay. That person would just salespitch the shit out of whatever I did and get it through to the client.
I'm jealous of this whole thing.

As bad as it may be and as much slack it is receiving on qbn; i am to believe that this is intentional and ask of.
GAP Inc. isn't hurting, yet the Gap brand property has seen a slump and so the company is responding with a reposition. Both Old Navy and Banana Republic are holding its market value and now its time for the GAP. We may see the GAP compete with target brands like Mossimo and Jean Paul Gaultier (out of all people). not to mention Walmart and other lower price points.
lukus_W has a good point in the buyout of American Apparel. That company has huge legal problems with their hiring practices and hasn't seen black on the books in over 2 years.
- and... (you forgot this part)... the new logo looks like shit!PonyBoy

I thought it might be to reposition themselves as 'affordable casual clothes' as opposed to 'over priced brand name'...it is still crap none the less. wtf

I threw my hat in.
Modern, yet Classic. Color references a hint of 1969 blue/black denim. Font is LOCATOR. I believe their blue color is holding them back and people will welcome this change. It will be more talked about then just changing the logo. You can imagine the black on black logo being matte and gloss working in conjunction.
I think it appeals to a wife variety of demographic, yet will still compliment their clothing athletic. Makes their brand feel a bit more high end yet still accessible at the same time (based on the style of clothing I have seen lately).

- Very nice! I think the switch to black would work.
catrocketship - yes, it appeals to a wide variety of wivesvitamins

- Tend to disagree with the choice of black, especially with gloss. That is not the Gap brand...luckyorphan
- ...good font choice, though.luckyorphan
- I just think they need to get away from the blue. I stand by it :) Look at the clothing on the front page of gap.comTofslie

Just a horrible, horrible logo... it's as if they gave up.

i think both the old and the new are both a strong representation of the style of their clothing line: bland, with a tinge of 1994.
the designer was able to capture this with such subtlety that his pure genious completely eludes us.

They should start a new store called GASH for women

Nasty fuzzy fonts on their primary navigation as well...
