Obama Plans to Propose Corporate Tax System Overhaul Next Month
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/20…Obama has said the corporate rate should be lowered from the current maximum of 35 percent in a way that doesn’t add to the federal budget deficit. An overhaul plan probably will encounter opposition in Congress, where Republicans have said a rewrite of corporate tax rules should be paired with changes in the tax system for individuals.
- i don't understand why an industry as seemingly lucrative as oil/gas would need tax breaks in order to functionlocustsloth

Ron Paul Signed Off On Racist Newsletters
http://www.washingtonpost.com/po…
A person involved in Paul’s businesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid criticizing a former employer, said Paul and his associates decided in the late 1980s to try to increase sales by making the newsletters more provocative. They discussed adding controversial material, including racial statements, to help the business, the person said.
“It was playing on a growing racial tension, economic tension, fear of government,’’ said the person, who supports Paul’s economic policies but is not backing him for president. “I’m not saying Ron believed this stuff. It was good copy. Ron Paul is a shrewd businessman.’’

Real class warfare: Indian Factory Workers Revolt, Kill Company President
http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenr…
Workers at the Regency Ceramics factory in India raided the home of their boss, and beat him senseless with lead pipes after a wage dispute turned ugly.
The workers were enraged enough to kill Regency’s president K. C. Chandrashekhar after their union leader, M. Murali Mohan, was killed by baton-wielding riot police on Thursday.

Matthew Kroenig is the Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and worked as a special adviser in the Pentagon from July 2010 to July 2011. One of his tasks was defense policy and strategy on Iran.
When I spoke with Kroenig last week, he said: “My understanding is that the United States has asked Israel not to attack Iran and to provide Washington with notice if it intends to strike. Israel responded negatively to both requests. It refused to guarantee that it will not attack or to provide prior notice if it does.”
“The future can evolve in three ways,” he said. “Iran and the international community could agree to a negotiated settlement; Israel and the United States could acquiesce to a nuclear-armed Iran; or Israel or the United States could attack. Nobody wants to go in the direction of a military strike,” he added, “but unfortunately this is the most likely scenario. The more interesting question is not whether it happens but how."

Perfect example of unions gone sour, waste of time and money.
Disgraced teacher is worth $10M, makes $100,000 a year, does nothing, & refuses to leave
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/loc…In a defiant raspberry to the city Department of Education — and taxpayers — disgraced teacher Alan Rosenfeld, 66, won’t retire.
Deemed a danger to kids, the typing teacher with a $10 million real estate portfolio hasn’t been allowed in a classroom for more than a decade, but still collects $100,049 a year in city salary — plus health benefits, a growing pension nest egg, vacation and sick pay.
Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Cuomo can call for better teacher evaluations until they’re blue-faced, but Rosenfeld and six peers with similar gigs costing about $650,000 a year in total salaries are untouchable. Under a system shackled by protections for tenured teachers, they can’t be fired, the DOE says.
- The unions themselves should start taking the initiative to clean this sort of shit uplocustsloth
- As in nearly every other area, a middle ground has to be found that doesn't allow abuses on either side (employer and employee)locustsloth
- employee).
And some fucking personal integrity would help too.locustsloth - *doesn't hold breathlocustsloth

- its like them taking a step into saying u keep what u earn with those willing to give u. wont happen locust********
- that's where the personal integrity i spoke of comes in. Also, the me not holding my breathlocustsloth
- IMO unions should WANT to eliminate this sort of malfeasance because it would strengthen their positionlocustsloth
- For all we know, these guys are innocent, falsely accused, etc. Not that it entitles them to pay w/out legit worklocustsloth
- But if they ARE innocent, this is the sort of things that unions can be beneficial for, protecting workerslocustsloth
- it'd be really easy to trump up accusations on a high paid teacher to get them out and save $locustsloth
- W/out a union to help them, this hypothetical teach is out on his ass for no reasonlocustsloth
- The situation is a problem with no easy answerslocustsloth
- no easy "socially exceptable" answers is true. Simple he chosoe to work for x amount of dollars without any tricky subsidizing. Done.********
- subsidizing and done. I think the fear of "workers rights or being abused is simply that fear. It happens with or without unions.********
- unions. The idea of unions seems to do more harm for incentives to manipualtion that not. which is the problem********
- i accept the right of union members to assemble and form. But be given no special legal privileges or subsidizations.********
- subsidizations. I also question the difference in all workers of an area holding a monopoly of labor.AS in such a monopoly of anything promotes ill behavior********
- anythign promotes incentives for ill behavior********
- im seeing more and more people neglect incentives for good intentions********
- likely why they see free market principles as failures. The idea of such is to analyze incentive.********
- I agree with both of you guys, no easy answers and personal accountability has to be part of it, but like you said... *sigh********
- I did read that, however, still he funded this through his salary and is doing it still by not working. Yes, cost of living********
- obviously is a lot more in NYC and teachers (good ones) deserve it, but this story stinks, stinks, stinks...********

Pretty fucking awesome! Gotta love the government and its complete fair system everyone is trying to get a part of.
Duane Wiles, recently fired by the California Department of Transportation for fabricating bridge tests, has been allowed to resign instead.
This marks the second time Wiles has been "unfired" by Caltrans. The first was in 1998 for incompetence, insubordination, dishonesty and other problems, but the agency was overruled by the State Personnel Board. This week's settlement agreement with Caltrans prevents a public airing of Wiles' admitted fraud and errors, and removes a public forum for examining whether agency higher-ups responsibly addressed the problem.

Obama: The most polarizing president. Ever.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/bl…For 2011, Obama’s third year in office, an average of 80 percent of Democrats approved of the job he was doing in Gallup tracking polls, as compared to 12 percent of Republicans who felt the same way. That’s a 68-point partisan gap, the highest for any president’s third year in office — ever. (The previous high was George W. Bush in 2007, when he had a 59 percent difference in job approval ratings.)
In 2010, the partisan gap between how Obama was viewed by Democrats versus Republicans stood at 68 percent; in 2009, it was 65 percent. Both were the highest marks ever for a president’s second and first years in office, respectively.
While it’s easy to look at the numbers cited above and conclude that Obama has failed at his mission of bringing the country together, a deeper dig into the numbers in the Gallup poll suggests that the idea of erasing the partisan gap is simply impossible, as political polarization is rising rapidly.
Out of the ten most partisan years in terms of presidential job approval in Gallup data, seven — yes, seven — have come since 2004. Bush had a run between 2004 and 2007 in which the partisan disparity of his job approval was at 70 points or higher.
“Obama’s ratings have been consistently among the most polarized for a president in the last 60 years,” concludes Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones in a memo summing up the results. “That may not be a reflection on Obama himself as much as on the current political environment in the United States, because Obama’s immediate predecessor, Bush, had similarly polarized ratings, particularly in the latter stages of his presidency after the rally in support from the 9/11 terror attacks faded.”
-----------
The biggest thing here, 80%+ of Democrats think he's doing a good job. Same went for Conservatives and Bush. WTF!?
Bush sucked, Obama might be fucking worse, if that's possible.
We're fucked!

That last thing you wrote goes to show that it's not so much the most polarizing president, but that he's president at the most polarizing time. Again, politics has moved into the realm of entertainment and sports, as evidenced by the multitude of televised debates and the reactions of the crowds at those debates.
All of it is sensationalist and very little is substantive. And if you got someone up there who really wanted to focus on clear-headed, moderate, fair ways to tackle issues, they'd be brushed off the stage before you could say "failure to assassinate another's character"- you might be right, but if that's the case, I stand by my generic statement, "we're fucked"********

I don't even think its that people are less informed, if anything they are probably better informed than in the past because of the web and all the information that is out there.
It's just that given the choice, most people prefer opinion based journalism rather than straightforward news. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean there will be stronger opinions on either side.
