That last thing you wrote goes to show that it's not so much the most polarizing president, but that he's president at the most polarizing time. Again, politics has moved into the realm of entertainment and sports, as evidenced by the multitude of televised debates and the reactions of the crowds at those debates.
All of it is sensationalist and very little is substantive. And if you got someone up there who really wanted to focus on clear-headed, moderate, fair ways to tackle issues, they'd be brushed off the stage before you could say "failure to assassinate another's character"- you might be right, but if that's the case, I stand by my generic statement, "we're fucked"********
