"Ah, you avoid the argument. There is a plethora of christian beliefs now and across history. Which is correct?"
There are a plethora of beliefs but, all mainstream denominations agree on what are essential beliefs required to be within the pale of true Christianity. These essentials go back to the counsels of the early church (which were in response to rampant heresy). Not every group or church which claims to be Christian, is Christian. So my answer to you is that all denominations which hold to the essential doctrines (the Trinity, Salvation by grace/faith alone, the Virgin birth, etc...) are Christian.

Take a country like Japan, where christianity is virtually non-existent. Will they all burn in hell? An entire nation will burn in hell because they lost the fucking religion lottery of the white man. Right?
- Short answer: Yes.TheBlueOne
- Expect along answer with some kind of latin or greek in it that'll boil down to :Yes.TheBlueOne

TheBlueOne,
The version laid out in very clear language in the Bible is the correct version of what Christianity looks like. The ultimate role-model is Christ. The truth is not teleos/flagellum's opinion, it is not my opinion, it is not the opinion of people who twist truth to suit their own agendas.
Unfortunately, since Christ is seated at the right hand of God and is not currently, physically tangible for us, the world only sees the behavior of those who claim to be His followers. Being humans, we are not perfect. Also, every religion has its true adherents and it's hordes of heretics and payers of lip service. Christianity is no different in this regard. Occasionally, we can see Christ-ianity exemplified in the life of a person who depends on God as their sustainer and savior. In such cases it is the Holy Spirit working in a person, instilling a desire to grow, love, and change into a better person. The motivation is gratitude, because we do not deserve Christ's love; we cannot approach God; but because our debt was ledgered to His account, because the Maker of all things loved us so much that he suffered, died and went to hell so that whomever believes will be spared. Thus, we are eternally paid for, and owe Him eternal allegiance for taking the bullet meant for us all.
- ok.... Or, perhaps, it could all be bollocks?dr_pangloss
- That's a better option than only buying selective truths from the Bible.gramme

You guys are arguing like I give a crap about this little fairy tale religion of yours I outgrew a looong time ago. Take the advice of your Jesus guy - pearls, meet swine. You can consider me "swine".
Nice language there in your holy book about those who don't believe what you do. Swine. Thanks. Please go on and continue arguing about your religion and spreading whatever misery that you do along the way. I'm heading home. Peace out.

The difference between a non-Christian who does good and a Christian who does good, is that the Christian (in her better moments, at least) is doing it for God's glory. The non-Christian does it for themselves (karma, etc), or for the sake of someone they care about. Doing good for God's glorification is the chief end of man: the higher the caller, the higher the calling. Doing good things for good karma is ultimately a selfish act, an insurance policy meant to protect ones own metaphysical and physical well being. Doing good for the sake of God is as selfless as it gets, and is thus the greatest thing a person can do.
The practical upshot is that part of glorifying God is loving his created people and objects, because aspects of his character are mirrored therein.

- so you get a good job to glorify god or to buy a house, car and bring up a family?mrdobolina

TheBlueOne, I don't buy your newfangled nonchalance for a second – your presence in these threads has been a mainstay for at least two years. If you don't care, then why do you continue to read and contribute?
- To exercise my right to be a prickly SOB on occasion. :)TheBlueOne

All this, for God's glory? What kind of madcap ego trip is that guy on?
His chums loathe Him so much that He has to create an entire world populated by scrawny little flesh bags, of whom he demands unconditional love and adulation? Christ, we don't even get an opt-out from creation! What an odd fellow.
I bet he likes train sets and staying in to watch mum too.

Again, you seriously misunderstand karma. But then again, so did the Beatles. It certainly is buddhist.
- The concept of karma in Hinduism pre-dates Buddhism as far as I know.seed

I always wondered how a Christian would treat a gay family member. I picture them loving this person, treating them with care and compassion.
That is until the day they let it be known that they're gay.
- See, i think that's unfair. The label christian is too broad. If you said "Christian evangelical in Kansas" I'd agree...TheBlueOne
- Right, but god doesn't like teh gheys period. So it really applies to all regions.czawada

dobs, the gospel has been preached in Japan. The goal is to share the good word with everyone, so nobody is left without the choice.

My experience - travelling to Japan and spending time with some buddhist monks/priests on occasion. they find christianity interesting and even enlightened on occasion, but wonder what the big brouhaha is about when it kinda meanders around for a long time to get to some simple points which are pretty middling on a buddhists ethical/moral understanding scale.

Hey Christians, who is your presidential candidate? Who are you supporting?

No czawada, you're mistaken. God loves everyone, no exceptions. God does however hate all sin. Being a perfect God, he cannot abide it in His presence. He feels the same way about homosexuality as he does when I lie, act selfishly, lash out in anger, you name it. He loves all people but cannot abide sin. That's why Jesus chose to become sin so that we could be counted as free.
