Bullshit 15k!! hHAhahah Not even an agency would charge that much for that. It's all hero images, very little structure or content. 6k tops

... most Apple designs can be done in days, its the consistancy amidst a gigantic company and the time involved in laboring through shitloads of bureaucratic decisions and corporate mumbo jumbo that takes the most time, as well as tying it together with their backend system..
but designing the freaking barebones iTunes interface would be easy as shit. its breaking it apart and tying it into code thats harder.
this site? easy. nothhing. simple. basic. such little concept or time or energy would be needed to produce that.

Call any respectable agency and ask them what they would charge for a site like that. Many agencies won't touch work under 30-40K or so, and that's going low.
A single freelance person would be different. However I think it's disrespectful to the design profession to declare a 15 years old kid could do it. They could make the images, the could do the visuals... but that's not what people pay agencies for... or I would never do that. Waste of my money.
Please don't think I believe the site is amazing, I think there are plenty of faults, but it fits their brand identity.

Vague - in that case (Apple), why can't more companies replecate what they do? If it's that simple, companies should be pumping out Apple like designs and beauty everywhere. Everything should be simple and emotionally engaging... but it's not.

Depends if all the photography is bespoke to the site. Few grand in photos there.
Could have a custome built CMS too.

"its the consistancy amidst a gigantic company and the time involved in laboring through shitloads of bureaucratic decisions and corporate mumbo jumbo that takes the most time, as well as tying it together with their backend system."
you think a national francise has much less beaurocracy? They've got a lot of money ridding on a proper launch. I'm betting the research, strategy and all other elements that are behind this 'simple' website are well above 6 figures.
The interface may be simple as shit, but the content, art direction, photography, positioning of the brand... all the stuff that really makes the website, is well considered. WIth all that in place, sure you could put this together for a couple grand, if not less... but that's like saying you could design the Google homepage in a couple of minutes. It looses sight of the value behind the interface.

Fight!

wow, I'm surprised at how cheap you guys think this thing is. It's got a store locator, looks like it has some CMS for news articles, etc. While looking simple, I would guess between 30-50K for agency work.
- heavyt0
1. that site is poorly coded
2. looks nicer than most
3. based on my agency experience, large agency, you could get as much as 50k for that site or more.
4. sure, it could have been done by someones nephew for a couple grand, but i highly doubt pinkberry is going to trust their brand to someone's nephew.- yeah, that site is coded for shit, tables all over the place... eew!joyride

Let's face it, a 15-year-old could take someone's temperature, it doesn't mean we start paying doctors $10/hour.

'However I think it's disrespectful to the design profession to declare a 15 years old kid could do it.'
Very well said jfletcher.

I want to agree with vague and jevad, but while $15k seems a bit high, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost $10-15k when you factor in:
*The actual design concept and how it compliments PinkBerry's image, style, and brand.
*Time to concept, design, and revise/approve every page.
*Store locator, E-mail newsletter, and any News system.
*Actual coding time.
*Bureaucratic bullshit and communication time; project management.A pretty standard agency rate of $150/hour, times 100 hours (two weeks worth of work for a couple employees) and you'd get $15k. Not unreasonable at all.

i'd trade that fucker for a $100 hoodie. just me though....

damn, im glad i created this thread. its good to hear everyone's opinion. i originally started this thread because my friend didn't quite understand the costs of websites. the pinkberry site is crap in my opinion but theres no way its under 10K, especially since an agency created it (ferro-concrete). even though the site is basic, it still takes a decent amount of production and design hours.

"you think a national francise has much less beaurocracy? They've got a lot of money ridding on a proper launch. I'm betting the research, strategy and all other elements that are behind this 'simple' website are well above 6 figures."
all of that money they spent is nothing more than a comfortable warm blanket for them to wrap around themselves, thinking that since it costs so much money, it must be that incredibly intelligent. like i said, a 15 year old could THINK UP, DESIGN, and EXECUTE everything you see on that silly site in a single day, yet no one would take him seriously because everyone's career is at stake here, and everyone is incredibly defensive of their jobs and the money they charge people for more ridiculously simple projects overall.
"The interface may be simple as shit, but the content, art direction, photography, positioning of the brand... all the stuff that really makes the website, is well considered. "
the content is BAREBONES, the art direction is not very flattering, and the photography is the only crispy looking thing there, and is the ONLY thing i could possibly imagine costing something reasonable for.
oh, wait, whats the rest of the art direction?
oh dear yee Pinkberry! based on countless hours of research into your almighty brand, utilizing every facet of our brainpower, we have concluded that giant repetitive circles with a few lines of text inside of them will effectively communicate your image in the most perfect way possible!! clearly we have unlocked the key to this grand puzzle, now pay us $50,000 and we will cut up a bunch of static images into terrible tables in dreamweaver design mode! hark ye!
give me a break.
15 year old. $1000 bucks.
- jfletcher0
I don't think you have a clue to what real design is... and it gives real designers a bad name.
If a 15 year old can do PinkBerry, Apple, etc... you should have no problems becoming a millionarie in a few years with the ability to create success like they've had. If it's so simple it's stupid, you should be able to pull it off with no problem.- btw - that last sentence isn't to call you stupid, it's to say if it's so simple, it should be easily repeatable.jfletcher

i think YOU need a reality check.
a thousand kids all over the world could easily conceptualize and produce that god damned website, and youre an idiot if you dont actually realize that.
the ONLY difference is no company will trust a 15 year olds input or design. it could be the exact same damned thing, but there isnt a single damned business owner link Pinkberry in the world who would "believe" what they got was "valuable" because it doesnt have some fancy-schmancy pompous giant company behind it throwing all sorts of fancy buzzphrases at him and lots of account schmoozing.
if some company really felt like paying some teenager $50,000 to produce a website, you better fucking believe that there are a shitload of kids out there who could produce things far better than that simplistic freaking website
- ukit0
lol @ vague
Listen, the question was not, is the site shit or not, it was how much did it cost. Your personal opinion of the site's photography and whether or not they used tables is completely beside the point.
The agency simply billed them their normal rate, worked on it for a few weeks, and this is what they came up with. The fact that you think it sucks is Pinkberry's loss, I guess, but it's irrelevant to the original question.

I have yet to meet a <21 year old person that has the focus and drive to run a campaign for a client. Sure they can do what they are told, aka - build a website with this and this and this, but, concept, present and manage the client, no way no how... sorry Charley.
