There's an artist, Nathalia Edenmont, who kills cats, dogs, mice, doves, rabbits and other animals; mutilates their bodies, and then takes their photographs. She's on exhibit, among other places, at the Wetterling Gallery in Sweden.
YAY, NAY or WHO CARES?
Just wondering what your thoughts on this are?

I'm all for her idea of causing a debate. I don't mind her killing some animals. But the galleries justification - their reasoning - mentions her photos as strikingly beautiful...There I disagree. I think they're too plain.

wonder if she killed them for the purpose of art or if the animals already were dead due to natural causes?
some of them are kinda beautiful, but this is too macabre:

What?! Are you for real?
I can't believe you are almost praising the work?
That stuff is the single most hideous thing I've seen all year.
Bring on the petition, you two need to take a serious look at your morals...
- shwax0
how so? if the cats already dead and she is able to express herself then what makes it morally wrong...
thousands of animals a week die in pounds... no one gets upset about that....

A quote from the "justification" article...
"There is nothing illegal in Nathalia's art. She has killed the animals in as humane a way as possible."
I am stuck for words.
- HumanMale0
She kills them herself!!!
Can't you read?!
- Peter0
I guess if you want something done correctly you have to do it yourself.
- shwax0
um - is this idea new?

my verdict is still out, but i don't want to be too quick to judge...
- shwax0
and yes i can read.
- rabattski0
fuck that shit! if the animals were already dead (roadkill, put asleep whatever) i wouldn't mind. then i would actually like her work.
but killing animals herself for her art is the sickest shit i've ever heard of. killing in the name of art? well where's the line? so she wouldn't mind if someone would kill her and stick her head up a pole?
i'm so seriously pissed right now.
- shwax0
it is sort of a slippery slope...
the cat in the blue jar is wicked cool though.
I really thought she had used euthanized cats...sorta sicko.
- stewart0
i didn't see any dogs?
why doesn't she kill dogs instead of defenseless cats and rabbits and tiny mice?
- lilbabyarm0
yeah fuck that. she shouldn't be killing the animals. they should already be dead from natural causes... just hit up a taxidermist.
- abizzyman0
shame on the galleries for exhibiting her... there is NO self-expression here that can be considered 'beautiful' or 'respectable'...
... that is disgusting - I won't even look at the links.
Absolutely horrible.
Even using the phrase 'expresses herself' is so horrid - so disgusting and such a bullshit sell-out pile of shit way to try and sound / appear like an intellectual.
There is no redeaming value in her work - don't even pull that bullshit 'she managed to get your attention'... this woman is a disgusting human being w/nothing to add to society.
- rabattski0
fucking nice. your cat's missing for weeks. you accidentely go to her show and hey you see your cats head in a blue jar. wow man, wicked cool!
- lilbabyarm0
oh man... that sucks too. I can't help but think of my pet turtles. I would kill someone if they fucked with my babies.
- abizzyman0
that japanese person is another waste of living tissue... along w/the patrons tempted enough to push the button.
... this is why i'm disgusted by 'intellectuals' who feel they're doing something in the name of 'art'.
- rabattski0
how the gallery justifies it is something i think is dumb:
"She is not the first to use dead animals in her works of art - that has been done at least since the 1700s..."
yeah, so true! why not go back to slavery and child labour as well! good ol' 1700's.
"We think that art is of vital importance"
what imporance? i think this should be translated into: "Our gallery was going down the slope, we need cash fast and now we use the sickest shit to draw a lot of attention."
