making beats
My kids 7&9 do piano lessons and the teacher organises concerts through the year. A couple of times a year she organises 'fun concerts' where you can play anything.
Took place on sunday, was some great parent kid duets, my favourite was a (french?) father and son. Father playing a double bass and his kid playing some thrift-shop retro organ that sounded amazing.
I played a gig with my two. Daughter playing Kalimba with contact mic attached - through a Blackhole Revervb on a 'Sigur Ros' preset.
I was providing some simple drums, fingerdrumming on the 404Mk2. Son was manning the iPad running Logic Pro with Bleas Synth on 'Boards' preset (Boards of Canada sound) it was sequenced, he was controling the cutoff/resonance.
We used the 'Session Musician' AI based feature in Logic to write a good bass guitar and piano track. We chopped up the original interview with Rickie Lee Jones that The Orb sampled for 'Little Fluffy Clouds' and dispersed that through the song with a little delay.
The kids had a lot of input into building the track with me on the iPad but it ended up sounding pretty epic.
Imagine Primal Scream (screamadelica) vs Boards of Canada vs something like Massive Attack. But on a sketchy level.Piano teacher said tonight that she had a lot of people saying what we played was awesome. :)

What are you listening to?
I've been trying to give my daughter a grounding in eighties music, so have been listening to quite a lot of it recently. One thing I've never really done with music from that era is listen to it with headphones (well, at least modern in-ear ones - I'm not talking about those orange-sponged atrocities we had plugged into our walkmans) and it's made me really appreciate it beyond the base background radio presence it always was for me in my younger years. Like, they were tunes I thought were fine enough, but i never really savoured or appreciated them for what they actually brought anew.
Anyway, her favourites from today are:
Obvs Spotify or originals have better headphone-sound than youtube...
- Yes have noticed this too.microkorg
- Good taste!mort_
- nice :) my daughter is in her 20's now, and grew up listening to stuff like 'killing joke' and cocteau twins with me :)exador1
- she's always been keen on late 70's and early 80's synth bands... lately she's been obsessed with a band from that era called 'the sound'exador1
- This is the original version of the first song strangely
https://www.youtube.…yuekit - ^ haha, wtf - I am all of the comments from the older Youtubers there :)Nairn
- @exador - lovely! I've long-since wondered at the perception of the continuum of music development and how it's perceived by 'new' ears.Nairn
- I know it's impossible, but I've always wondered what it would be like to be in the head of some different, younger, hearing 'old' tunes for the first timeNairn

As a half-Jew living in Jerusalem and partly American, I would like to extend my deepest apologies to all the nations in the region. All of this is leading to total destruction and countless deaths, and Israel and America are responsible. I am deeply ashamed for what is done supposedly in my name.

Artificial Intelligence
It's getting to the point where you can almost do pixel-perfect front-end development with AI coding agents - the main challenge here is conveying all the information needed to the AI.
Apparently Figma is better for this, but since I was working with a PSD file I created a script for Photoshop that exports all the layer data to a JSON file (font sizes, colors, positioning of elements etc) and then give that to the AI along with a mockup image. The results are far from perfect but it's still a big time saver.
- Cool, any working examples that you would like to share?utopian
- Here's the script if you want to try it: https://pastes.io/vP…yuekit
- Save as JSX file, then in Photoshop, open the PSD file you want to export data from and select scripts > browse > select the file.yuekit
- Then try giving the JSON file it generates to an AI along with a mockup of the design. It should be better than trying to code off the mockup alone.yuekit
- pretty good system! I would have killed for something like this before I discovered Figma... you should save this into the 'useful thread' as well!exador1
- Did you 'vibe code' this? And, if so, are you generally not a programming spastic?
That sounds bad! Just trying to work out how deep the AI goes here xNairn - lol...not only that, the AI suggested this idea in the first place. But I do know how to program and have a lot of knowledge of front end/UI dev.yuekit
- And this script is not something that's going to mess up your Photoshop files if that's what you were asking. It's using this capability that has existed for ayuekit
- long time
https://developer.ad…yuekit - It's just some JavaScript code that collects metadata from your file, it doesn't change anything. I suspect if you search you'll find many similar scripts.yuekit
- yep! awhile back I'd supplied a screenshot and asked chatGPT(!) to give HTML and tailwind CSS and the result was useable. crazy what can be done now.Squiddy

Heist of the day
Thieves steal Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse paintings in three-minute Italian heist
Paintings by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse worth millions of euros were stolen in a heist on a museum near the Italian city of Parma, police say.
Four masked men entered the Magnani Rocca Foundation villa on 22 March, police said, making off with Les Poissons by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Still Life with Cherries by Paul Cézanne and Odalisque on the Terrace by Henri Matisse.
