"The Omicron variant, now present in at least 23 countries around the world, was probably incubated in the body of a person with an immune system battered by HIV or another immune-compromising condition that can cause a prolonged coronavirus infection, according to the South African scientist who detected the fast-spreading genetic mutant."

"UK records 93,045 new daily cases, the most since the pandemic began"
wtf?!
- in the city that was one of the epicenters (meaning 75% of people had the virus), new re-infections mean NOTHING.pr2
- they only mean something for the media as they get to spin the fear mongering.pr2
- pr2 told us that 90% of NYers already had it and are immune. Now it’s 75% and he’s saying it’s reinfection. Lol dude. You’re obviously wrong********
- pr2 told you that around 75% of NYers had it and indeed they are immune. As before, reinfections in those who had it mean NOTHING.pr2
- pr2 told us this, but also cobbled it together from weak assumptions based on mininterpretations and irrational fear of taking precautionmonospaced

Trump Administration Deliberately Tanked Covid Response for Political Purposes.
The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Friday released a 46-page report confirming what was readily apparent to most reasonable, informed Americans: The Trump administration made “deliberate efforts” to undermine America’s response to Covid-19 for political purposes.
Most of the documents cited in the committee’s report have already been made public, including ones that show how the administration played down the importance of testing and even prevented public officials from holding briefings to educate the public on the highly contagious disease. New information released Friday, however, further illustrates how public health officials were put in difficult positions by the administration.

Omicron outbreak at a dinner party in Norway:
https://www.eurosurveillance.org…117 attendees with an average age of 39, 107 were fully vaccinated (either Moderna or Pfizer).
81 tested positive for Omicron:"Among the 81 cases, the most common symptoms were cough (83%), followed by runny/stuffy nose (78%), fatigue/lethargy (74%), sore throat (72%), headache (68%) and fever (54%) (Table). When asked to grade the severity of symptoms on a scale from 1 (no symptoms) to 5 (significant symptoms), 42% (33/79) reported level 3 symptoms, whereas 11% (9/79) reported level 4 symptoms. None of the cases required hospitalisation up to 13 December 2021."
- Uselss vaxx. Defo not worth the side effects.********
- ^didn't read the last sentence.uan
- (13 December 2021 was the date of the study)drgs
- party was the 26th November...high probability none of them ended up in hospitals even after 13 Dec.uan
- Vaccination kept them from being hospitalized or dying. If you don’t understand this you’re a moron like pr2.monospaced
- Literally no reason not to get vaccinated. It can only help.monospaced
- What would've happened (had they not been clotshotted) is unknowable.********
- The side effects are plenty enough reason not to get jabbed********
- nobody who's 39 gets hospitalized vaxxed or not - if you don't understand it,you're a moron like mono.pr2
- So based on those stats, can we FINALLY say Omicron is like flu? Or will this trigger too many dummies in the room?pr2
- No give us a scenario where it was 81 unvaccinated people got the virus and none ended up in hospital and we’ll say it’s just the flu._niko
- ^ Zactly!mort_
- You’re a special kind of morally fucked idiot if you think side effects of the vaccine are worse than side effects of the virus.monospaced
- And you must have your head neck deep in someone’s shit filled anus if you don’t realize people this age actually do die. And you deserve that.monospaced
- Show me how I’m an idiot. Please.monospaced
- well for one, covid-19 has killed 5 million people. and deaths from the jab directly have been 12 total so vaxx is deadlier.
-professor of logic_niko - Your stats are lies.********
- how do you argue with people who believe that out of hundreds of millions of vaxxed people, only 12 died because of the jab?pr2
- How many died as a direct cause of the jab then? Send us some stats and not links to YouTube crackpots. Whatever your imaginary number is it’s not 5 million_niko
- even if the number who died from the jab was 1,000 or more, you would still be a fucktard of fucktards, because that's not millionsmonospaced
- but it's not nearly that high, not even closemonospaced

Got my booster yesterday, arms a bit sore.
Here's some anti-vax beats...
-- Yeah, my arm is ever-so-slightly achey, but that's it this time around. Thank fuck. I was genuinely concerned I'd be out of it for a day or so.Nairn
- That's good Nairn, I didn't find it too uncomrfortable to sleep either. Have an 8 hour drive on Tuesday so was worried too.PhanLo
- Oh yeah! I slept 9 hours straight last night, which was a bonus! I forgot about that.
Where you off to? Dahn Sarf?Nairn - Yep, down for my wife's auntie's funeral. Been constantly checking for lockdown alerts, hope it all goes ahead.
Down one day and back up.PhanLo

Honestly, if you're vaccinated and have a booster, how dangerous could Omicron be?
- Not verygrafician
- We’re just concerned for the anti vaxx holdouts like pr2 whom it is dangerous for. 99.9% of covid deaths in the last 5 months has been from non vaxxed :(_niko
- Why do we care about the non-vaxxed? 99% of the time it is their choice.********
- It’s not a choice foe everyone.monospaced
- It's like the common cold, some sniffles and a possible collapsed lung or two. No biggie everyone dies at some point.utopian
- dudes, why do you care about people like me??? I stopped wearing mask on trains and in all public places months ago. I should be dead by now 10x over.pr2

- Then again, i'm a superfit, teatotal vegan triathlete, crossfitter.********
- ^ Brabo, Covid doesn't discriminate. The fit and healthy are just as fair game for it.microkorg
- Being fit actually might increase your chance of dying, as your strong immune system is more likely to go into a Cytokine storm, attacking yourself, strongly.shapesalad
- What I don't get about the antivax is they would rather randomly get a bioweapon from china than in a controlled manor take a vaccine made by big pharma.shapesalad
- big pharma being the lesser of two evils. Still a preferable choice to a made in china bioweapon. And yes your immune system may be great at fighting it off, shapesalad
- but you don't know with 100% probability, and those around you that are vulnerable - eg granny - won't appreciate an early death cos of you spreading it withoutshapesalad
- knowing you had it cos of your amazing immune system. All of this is elementary science, game theory and probability mathematics. So antivax peeps are idiots?shapesalad
- Christ on a bike. So a healthy immune system is bad now?********
- Add to that a vax that doesnt prevent infection or spread?********
- AKA Doublethink.********
- Depressing that so many outwardly appearing 'bright' folk have bought into this shit.********
- pr2 is the asshole who won’t wear a mask on trains. Even strangers know you’re a fucking idiot.monospaced
- Pr2 that’s sad man, so selfish you’re not worried about spreading it to the vulnerable. Masks do t protect you, they protect them._niko
- @Brabo_Brabo Everyone is buying into either side of the madness. I'm not a scientist. I have no opinion other than thinking what is most likely.shapesalad
- and yes immune healthy being great isn't good when you get an auto-immune disease or something that causes an auto-immune reaction, ie covid.shapesalad
- mostly like vaccines don't kill or add 5g functionality. most likely covid came from a bio lab. most likely masks filter some crap. most likely covid is ashapesalad
- bigger risk than a vaccine. most likely governments are not so organised that this is some big control of population crap.shapesalad
- sums it up nicely shapesalad_niko
- you might think your immune system is strong, but you won't know until it's tested, and then you might wish you had the vaccine to helpmonospaced
- if you think this is some conspiracy, you're also a moron.monospaced
- yeah, i'm not here to placate you unfounded fears.pr2
- Why 75 year embargo on the Pfizer data release? *That* and the track record of "big farmer" doesn elicit a teensy-weensy bit of suspicion?********
- No way Gabbo is as fit as they say they areFNP14
- Except, you're scared shitless of a vaccine and masks, like a moron. You are also confused and think I'm scared of the virus, which I'm not. Fucking idiot.monospaced
- You're out fear mongering about the harms of actually taking precautions, while I'm taking precautions and not living in fear.monospaced
- I still wear a mask at the shops and on trains. Mainly because I subscribe to the 'grey man' ethos. It's tactical to do so.********
- also because it's requiredmonospaced
- Not here in the UK. Lots of folk are maskless (30%) Shop and train staff dont enforce it..********

An Excel error led to an estimated 1,500 deaths in the UK last year. The UK COVID contact tracing effort saved to an old Excel file format (.XLS) rather than the new one (.XLSX). The smaller row limits resulted in names being dropped & they were never contacted by tracers.
