An Excel error led to an estimated 1,500 deaths in the UK last year. The UK COVID contact tracing effort saved to an old Excel file format (.XLS) rather than the new one (.XLSX). The smaller row limits resulted in names being dropped & they were never contacted by tracers.

- Just tried it myself, there is a warning when you savedrgs
- Ah, but you only get that warning with more recent versions of Office — there's no surprise gov is using legacy versions!evilpeacock
- The true cost of life due to Excel is beyond 1500. Thousands die each year from the sheer boredom of work staring at an excel spreadsheet.shapesalad
