1995: An episode of the Simpsons depicts homer forcing himself to become unhealthily obese so he can work for home.

2021: I'm thinking maybe I should force myself to become unhealthily overweight so I can go back to work.

I am 24 lbs (11 kg) to light to get vaccinated. Lol. Where I live (in Germany), only 60+ or overweight people get vaccinated. Or people who work for the state.

Not writing this in anger. Just having a bit fomo, because people around me get vaxxed and I can't. But I rather work on losing some weight instead of gaining more.

    • too lightSimonFFM
    • People above 65 or with co-morbidites should come first. If not in that group and healthy, you should give your vaccine to people that really needs it.ApeRobot
    • Here they want to open the vaccine to 16 years old, this is nonsense when you know that only 47% of the "fragile" people got vaccinated.ApeRobot
    • They use colour hereGnash
    • @ApeRobot Doesn't sound nice either. We are only at 11% vaccinated people in Germany as of May, 17.SimonFFM

Australia has banned Australian citizens currently in India, from returning home...probably until mid month at the earliest.

I'm really conflicted on this one.

Absolutely horrid if you're an Australian and in India. No doubt you'd want to come home and you'd expect your home country to make every effort for that to happen.

Having said that, our quarantine systems here have proven to be fragile to say the least...and in a country with effectively zero COVID, do we risk another wave just to get a few thousand people home?

I hate ScoMo as much as anyone...but I don't envy anyone having to make the decision. Because sure as fuck, if they do bring them home and there's an outbreak, there will be hell to pay.

    • What idiot would travel to a country with Covid-19 running buck wild for months now, then expect to fly home to their country? - A Covidiot would.utopian
    • They should be allowed to quarantineinstrmntl
    • People went for many reasons. Some for frivolous things like weddings, others to see & care for elderly family. It’s not so simple.nb
    • This wouldn’t be an issue if the federal gov had sorted quarantine. If a citizen can get home they should be provided quarantine.thumb_screws
    • I'm sorry but not sorry....we are in the middle of a global pandemic and those who choose to travel for any reason must be quarantined or banned, period.utopian

    Soz, rant incoming...

Just had a phone call with my sister who's very much against this vaccine because she has friends who know people who have had serious side effects. One person (she knows) is now in intensive care. She then starts crying saying she loves me and doesn't want anything bad to happen to me. What the fuck? We can see exactly how fear spreads. She suggested I waited until we knew what it's actually doing to people.

I recognise there are always going to be issues. I used to take anti-depressents and there's probably a lot of evidence to suggest they did nothing but make me more subdued, losing the vigour of life, but the way mRNA vaccines works is a absolute game changer in the future of humanity. We can now irradicate huntington's disease and stickle cell disease and have the opportunity to play god in various other ways. I think those moral boundaries are more the questions we need to be focusing on here as using gene-editing techniques could eventually be our own demise. But is a vaccine for COVID something that we should be worrying about, especially when many companies are producing them not for profit? I feel sorry for my sister, but I also question whether im being naive.

    • Ask her if she ever wore a No Fear t-shirt. Better yet, find a picture of her from the 90s wearing a No Fear shirt and ask her ‘what happened to you”nb
    • The way mRNA works is NOT a mystery, as it's working in you all the time naturally and always has.monospaced
    • I honestly believe that no vaccine would have been put into use if it were going to cause widespread harm. No company wants that on their hands, profit or not.monospaced
    • And for the record, COVID-19 mRNA vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way. At all. Huge misconception.monospaced
    • It’s not gene editingmonospaced
    • The harm from u getting vaccinated or from you experiencing covid is equally small. You sister overreacted, but so did you.pr2
    • That said, i actually want everyone who's afraid of the virus to get vaccinated so that with that level of "security" we can move on.pr2
    • There are many ways to tickle our immune system to prepare for the virus, not all vaccines are created equal and not all have the same dangers.pr2
    • dr2 has spokenGuyFawkes
    • I just wish people here listened to the Dr2, rather than sharpening stakes or lighting torches for stakes burning.pr2
    • Harm is equally small? Go fuck off you ignorant cunt. Your bullshit is so tired.monospaced
    • Vaccines in rare cases MAY have caused a couple of deaths. The virus has killed 3+ million and climbing. Equally harmful my ass, you clown ass bitch.monospaced
    • I'm aware my sister overreacted by crying thinking I was going to die, but I understand why she did that. I'm unhappy I overreacted because I find her...Ianbolton
    • position predicated on fear and lack of understanding. Mono, I'm currently reading Codebreaker and the mRNA developments is mind-blowing.Ianbolton
    • You got vaccinated based on what if not fear? Just curious.pr2
    • Because it stops the chances of dying completely, even if they are low chances. And it slows the spread of the virus. Fuck you, pr2.monospaced
    • mono, you can't respond to the longer post below where i explain how you are wrong?pr2
    • You did no such thing.monospaced
    • pr2, I think you're missing the point of my post. My family is so divided at the moment. That's my general fear. I don't have time to constantly...Ianbolton
    • question everything I read. My sister does, to the point she just sees the world as a playground of power and manipulation.Ianbolton
    • I'd rather put my trust in something to negate the issues of dying of actual COVID which I had last year - it was grim. I've also lost close friends to it.Ianbolton
    • watch out, pr2 might say the death of your close friends are not only acceptable and expected, but also anecdotal fear mongering shit. Because he's a cunt.monospaced
