"Peterson has gained something of a following for his how to live your life guidance, which mostly consists of obvious common sense, ideas recycled from the Stoics, and some fairly crummy advice. Despite promoting personal responsibility above all and telling others how to live well, he went on to abandon his very sick wife for a while to go to Russia to do a dangerous experimental medical procedure where he would get over his drug addiction by an induced coma, thereby avoiding the discomfort of withdrawal and waking up with the problem that was much more easily solved with less personal work to do. Clearly, this must tick all the boxes in his principles of personal responsibility and "How To Live Your Life To The Fullest", because he hasn't seemed to lose that many fans/readers. This perhaps says something about his fans."

Other than that Peterson is passionate about free speech, I don't really know what his teachings are about, and if he has anything to teach at all. His cult following is somewhere between Beatlemania and self help books.

Half of what he's saying you can immediately agree with, the other half is added for marketing purposes, whichever topic is trending at the moment -- he has opinions on absolutely everything.

    As requested :-)

The idea that an alternative question lead forum of experts and thinkers from business, culture, and politics isn’t bad.

There are broad criticisms of the WEF and it’s annual proposed solutions. Particularly this years ‘unfounded’ and ‘alarmist’ solutions for climate change. It fails to adequately address the impacts of climate change solutions on the poor. The WEF is also facing further criticism for it’s focus on ESG initiatives particularly the negative effect on inflation due to governments spending on social programmes, subsidies and renewable energy.

Philanthropists like Bill Gates have also expressed concern for the poor and developing countries because of their inability to break away from carbon negative energy sources due to cost. His particular solution is to invest heavily in cleaning up and innovating short term solutions for electricity grids and delivery of liquid fuels. This would bring an interim positive effect on climate change and give us the room to discover, innovate and produce viable long-term solutions. This forum would be a good alternative to the WEF and a great place to discuss and discover answers to the inherent problems a global problem such as Climate Change contains, as a ‘one size’ solution will not fit all.

I have my doubts that JP will be able to pull this off, I tend to agree with Yuekit in that he is too much of a polarising figure to create something that is a true alternative to the WEF. People will tend to see this as another of JPs personal crusades rather than a potential alternative platform for finding solutions to global issues. From what I have seen and heard JPs motivation is for good. Whether it’s personal, community, country or global I think he is genuinely striving to improve lives. However, his ability to attract huge audiences is both a strength and weakness in this situation.

    • Trading one particular set of elites for another.IRNlun6
    • In my experience it's climate scientists who were always the most vocal in demanding action on climate change, with government and businessyuekit
    • only slowly and reluctantly going along with it. Most scientists don't see the current climate policies as alarmist, if anything it's too little too late.yuekit
    • @palimpsest The execution will fail because JP is the figurehead. Most people won't be able get over that, however credible it is.Morning_star

    • ..consuming his opinion doesn't reflect accurately the totality of his ideas. Coupled with the mostly negative journalistic responses don't do him any favours.Morning_star
    • @yuekit...Just to clarify the 'alarmist' label was only focussed on the WEF annual statement, not a general accusationMorning_star
    • Yes but the basic premise that the WEF is pushing unfounded environmental policies that go too far...I just don't think this is true.yuekit
    • I also don't think they are imposing "one size fits all" policies. In reality this is a very difficult problem people are trying to solve.yuekit
    • The criticisms i site are valid and consistent with climate scientists. You've hit the nail on the head because it is a very difficult problem to solve and...Morning_star
    • ...one that can't be solved by businessmen chatting for a week in Switzerland.Morning_star
    • It's almost trolling for Peterson to suggest that he has the answers. The irony is if some alternative group to the WEF actually made a serious attempt at this, yuekit
    • they'd probably quickly discover that most of their original criticisms were misguided and made from 10,000 foot vantage point.yuekit
    • Maybe an alternative 'something' is better than nothing. Who knows? If it does happen the test will be the quality of it's output.Morning_star
    • Except that alternative will fail and we're back to square one.palimpsest

Jordan Peterson Proposes Alternative To World Economic Forum:

“We’re trying to put together something like an alternative vision of the future – say an alternative to that kind of apocalyptic narrative that’s being put forward, at least implicitly, by organizations like the WEF,” Peterson said.

The worldwide group, according to Peterson, will be based in London, with the first meeting scheduled for the fall. He didn’t say anything about the group’s name or who will be involved.

Peterson went on to say that the consortium will be founded on questions rather than solutions, one of which would be bringing the most energy and resources to the most people at the lowest possible cost.

“You don’t get to save the planet by making energy prices so expensive that no one poor can afford them. That’s off the table,” he said. “You don’t get to impose your utopian vision in the service of your narcissism on the poor.”

Another dilemma is how to prioritize human well-being “in harmony with nature,” with the caveat that it should not be “predicated on the idea that there are too many goddamn mouths to feed and that you’re evil if you just think about having children.”

Other issues the consortium hopes to address, he says, are “how do we arrange systems of governance” without a top-down approach like the WEF and how to promote long-term monogamous child-centred families.

“Some spirit is going to guide you – that’s life. The question is, what is the highest spirit that could guide you?” Peterson said.

    • Remember when Peterson tried to start a social media site? I think this will have a similar ending...

"We locked everything down for Covid. How much face to face communication was there between the West and Vladimir Putin? How about none? How about that was the wrong amount, especially given that Europe was completely dependent on Putin for its energy supplies... Well, not completely, but you know what I mean. Materially and significantly. So, maybe had to go talk to him once every six months? Maybe he's in a bit in a bubble? Probably."
