I thought the movie looked great, probably the best visually so far. I thought the only thing that it lacked and really prevented it from being amazing was the element of swashbuckling, it needed a bit more Han and chewie, or guardians of the galaxy vibe which the first 3 and the force awakens had.
As for the cgi, they are 99.9% there yet somehow still a million miles off. Still missing the humanity.
- I disagree about the swashbuckling which I would more likely call cheesiness. I wanted more Force.CyBrainX
- There was one character who could have been the one to give this movie the depth of the others but he was just a silly man with OCD and great skills.CyBrainX
- Star Wars is just more than this.CyBrainX
- Yeah I hear you but if you watch a new hopecagain it was almost campy, I don't think it needs to be that extreme, just a hint_niko

I saw it for a second time on Friday. I still don't know how Tarkin's CGI could have been more perfect.
- But you noticed it especially when they were cutting between him and krennic. There are subtle twitches or expressions that we make when we speak that the still_niko
- i didn't even know it was CGIpango
- ...Haven't captured. Which is strange because they are mapping an actors face and should be capturing it all._niko
- Having said that, my kids had no idea who the cgi characters were._niko
- And what they've pulled off is phenomenal, best we've seen so far, but it's still not quite there._niko
- he looked like a cartoon. go watch final fantasy kingsglaive. the cgi humans in that take a dump all over tarkinCygnusZero4
- this is better than tarkin? LOL http://www.technobuf…scarabin
- you're honestly comparing this guy to star wars https://i.ytimg.com/…scarabin
- They are meh, feels like final fantasy.ApeRobot
- watch the movie. they are more impressive than tarkin. square has FAR more experience with this than ILM https://www.youtube.…CygnusZero4
- rendrer was wrong, lighting was terrible, animation was ropey, tracking not perfect.mugwart

I saw it this week and chose the 3D version because the regular version was sold out. I though the 3D worked well and it wasn't nearly as distracting as I expected it to be.
Really liked the movie from start to finish, but what impressed me the most was the film score. It's great that they created new music that felt similar in tone and theme to the Star Wars music that we're all used to, but was different enough to stand on it's own in a companion story movie. Then, when the rebellion ships showed up and the regular Star Wars music came in, man... I got serious chills. That was perfect.
That battle scene was amazing.
Overall, what I loved the most is that as a companion story occurring earlier in time than say The Force Awakens, just about every visual element felt perfectly matched alongside that of Star Wars part 4. I LOVED that. When Lucas made parts 1, 2, and 3, he utterly and completely fucked up everything to do with maintaining consistency of technology, both functionally and aesthetically. That's what ruined those movies. They look stupid to watch, they don't fit in with the shifting nature of technology and design in parts 4-6. It was a horror show.
- cool!monospaced
- Spot on assessment of the technology. Such a huge disconnect with the prequels_niko
- yeah, the 3d felt really naturalscarabin
- Yep - totally agree with all of this.fadein11
- going tomorrow thanksernexbcn
- yup, best 3D I've experienced. Need to compare to the reg version, but it looks like they played with the dof vs. just making everything 3D.formed
- it helped your eyes focus on the subjects and made if feel 'softer'formed

Sort of on topic.
For those of you who are torrent savvy, the silver screen edition of Star Wars is exactly the way the movie was seen in 1977. It's a damn big file, but for those wanting to transition into Star Wars from this, it is the purest way to experience it.
- here's a 3.25gb version of the 22gb file he's referring to https://thepiratebay…scarabin

- I've got nearly three mins into this, is it worth going any further? It just seems like she's not going to have an arc. She's started as a whiny little twat...Wolfboy
- ...and I'm gong to guess she'll end this video the same way.Wolfboy
- i tried to watch this but it's half an hour long. she does make some reasonable points but none of them were such an issue that it ruined the moviescarabin
- (for me at least) upvote for being thought out but downvote because i'd never wanna see a movie with this chickscarabin
- got a few minutes in... complaining that not everything was explained... But that's what I loved about rogue one.inteliboy
- mystery, backstories you need to make up in your imagination, weird characters at the edge of frame.... the OG Star Wars had all that too.inteliboy
- I agree with all of this.cannonball1978

So Darth Vader and the Empire basically rule the world and are unhappy people and the Rebels are a small group of hippies and anarchists trying to bring them down?
The Empire appears to have all the power and they can blow up planets to make themselves feel better but what is the goal for their organization? Are there people in the Star Wars universe with office jobs or are there only soldiers or creatures who work at cantinas and flea markets?
- The goal is simply power and control. Lots of classic space sagas are about this, and there's sadly nothing really that original about what Lucas came up with.monospaced
- Kinda like a critique of the Roman Empire.monospaced
- You should read the Foundation series by Asimov, which is basically the outline for this kind of thing.monospaced
- seems destroying a planet is counter-productive, surely they could devise a weapon to destroy living creatures but save the resources?_niko
- plus i think it's what george lucas put us to sleep with during the prequels, trade routes and federations blah blah blah snooze._niko
- The inspiration for Star Wars has roots in the writing og

I was wondering ... with everyone traveling from place to place at light speed across this far away galaxy, wouldn't that ultimately throw off timelines and become a significant issue?
- i found this on the subject http://starwars.wiki…scarabin
- How convenient. A shield from general relativity. Well then.monospaced
- Of course, but... you know... its just a movie. Its not real.CygnusZero4
- There are MANY things that are impossible in physics in these movies.CygnusZero4
- Totally. I'm not hating, it's just something that crossed my mind when I was reading another scifi book yesterday.monospaced

I enjoyed the movie, felt more nostalgic than Force Awakens. The references to the originals weren't as flashy and in your face. I still like both movies.
It was great watching the Death Star show its range of destruction. Made me think of how lame starkiller base is compared to it.

Good film. Liked it. Ending was a surprise even though it probably shouldn't have been.

- Get used to it. Disney has plans for a movie a year in perpetuity. Only a fraction will be official episodes. Just see what they do with cartoons.monospaced

I was expecting Donnie Yen's character to be more like Serif from the Matrix movies. This kind of quiet cerebral spiritual guy. Instead he was telling jokes, smiling a lot, and that accent, I couldnt deal with it. Sounded so ridiculous. The fawce is stwong! Awful. I liked every other character expect for him.
Ive never seen Donnie Yen in any other movies but his acting in this was shit. Good fighter, probably should never speak in any movies.
- Ip Man and Iron Monkey. He is an exceptional fighter. You are on point.DRIFTMONKEY

- I completely agree, ruined the fucking flick dudesvero_vandal
- he was used to get into the chinese market. They took away the japanese elements, shinto and bushido and made it a bit more kung fu. sign of the timesmugwart
- the ending wasnt the original one shot, they had to re-shoot it. So i think his main scene was taken out - thats just my guessmugwart
