Just swung by the Apple store at the local mall, my thoughts...

Watch - people are going to rationalize why they need one. It looks cool, finish is Apple, too thick for my taste and I can't justify it. It'll be a huge hit to teens, I think, but beyond that I don't know. By v.3 it should be thin enough that I'd use one for fitness, but that's it.
Still too geeky for my taste/style.

MacBook - it'll be a huge hit, I think. No one cares about processors or ports, it just looks nice. If it had a touch screen I'd like it 1000x more. For me, Dell is nicer (too cheesy for my taste - all these gold, etc., colors) and more professional.

S6 - I looked at an S6. Not working models, but I guess they should be the same. I was not impressed. Apple's fit and finish is far superior. Hugely disappointed. If it was the S5 it would have change everything, but it's catchup now.

Now I pray Lenovo's Windows phone lives up to the rumor renderings. HTC and Samsung are hanging in there, but missed a chance to gain the crown again.

    My 2 cents

    • iPhone6 was the biggest catch up product in years... Apple caught up, the competition doesn't need to.
I agree about finish though - they kill the competition.

people will be attacked for their Apple Watch. A watch is visible at all times. Not like an iPhone in a pocket or a bag.

Look everyone! I have a watch on the wrist that worth $600!! Look!

I would take it off when taking the subway and in certain area of the city.

    • yeah, people get attacked in public for their nice watches all the timemonospaced
    • like this dude getting knocked for his iPhone in Montreal a few years ago, check the video: http://www.lapresse.…benfal99

    • @mono, for the new trendy APPLE watch, yesbenfal99
    • That attack would involve unbuckling the band and then unpairing the Watch from the owner's phone. Probably a pain in the ass, espeically in public.monospaced

    • I'm not saying don't buy one because it might get stolen. But don't be surprised if it does.iCanHazQBN
    • I guess you're right. I can't turn on the news without hearing about people being accosted for their Samsung watches every day. LOLmonospaced
    • People were also attacked when the iPod was cool. Some teenagers just bought the white Apple earphones and wore them without a player..mekk

I QUIT: WHAT REALLY GOES ON AT APPLE

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. – Steve Jobs, June 12, 2005.

I experienced Apple TV over a friends house early today for the first time. Why is Apple TV so slow and sluggish? And the UI is very clumsy and cumbersome.

    • The UI is shit. The streaming takes time to buffer but it's not as sluggish as some of the competition.monospaced
    • Yeah it's weird how even selecting a title is painfully slow.nb
    • still waiting for Apple to inject some much needed appleness into TV - Apple TV is poor. TV is waiting to be turned upside downfadein11

    • Seems like an opportunity for a watch that is NOT connected. All looks good if it were lighter, not reliant on the phone, faster...conclusion is waitformed
    • I think it'll take years to figure out what exactly a "smart watch" should do and how. Also, that timeframe may reveal we don't need them at all.monospaced
    • At that point tech will allow for smaller and faster watches with all kinds of new things. I say this is a decent start, but I'm not sold on one for nowmonospaced
    • It's a cool experiment. When we can really divide the categories I think they'll catch on. A "real" fashion watch doesn't need a billion bells and whistlesformed
    • and a good fitness watch just needs gps, no connection needed and durability (their sport bands, etc., look good, but the watch doesn't fit)formed

    • How can a small device like this cost more than certain laptop or computer?benfal99
    • considering the Canadian dollar is worth only $.80 in the US, this figure is the exact same when you account for the difference.monospaced
    • The cost is of course partly that it's a designer product, but also for its materials, fit n' finish and all the UI/UX R&Dmonospaced
    • You can easily get a slightly cheaper smart watch, but it'll be bigger and less easy to usemonospaced

Does anyone here want a smart watch, from any company? It's not just Apple, the entire industry jumped into this without it being a well-thought out concept. A smartwatch is like a 1950s vision of what tech would be like. And it's unnecessary because you always have your phone within reach anyway.

    • that's the problem. you need your phone next to you. therefore it's merely a commodity/status thing.lvl_13

69% of Americans not interested in Apple Watch

Pretty much all of the stuff people do on their phones consists of watching videos, reading news, playing games. You can't really do any of that on a watch. Seems like a pointless device to me.

    • I do none of that. My phone is for checking email, texting and figuring out info like maps, flights and weather while out.monospaced
    • I figure the watch would be helpful for data, like a regular watch is.monospaced
    • Regular watch is a good statement, tho. A ubiquitous watch won't be...not for long (imho). It'll be like a calculator watch - cool for the first year.formed

As much as I been disliking Apple slowly, I am still a customer.
And just a few minutes I was on the phone with them about a fugly screen issue my iphone started to have about a week ago. Despite my phone not being under warranty, they offered to cover all expenses for the repair, but in all likelihood they will just send me a new phone. An authorized repair centre quoted me $400 bucks for the repair.

    Good stuff.

Just hope they don't change their minds once they see the couple of scratches it has.

    • Generally their support sucks, though. One of the reasons I never bought them for business - tech support is ridiculously bad (bring into store?! Please).formed
