Georgesll, I dont know why but I burst into tears anytime i watch a video of the Berlin Wall coming down. All I see is people desperate for something I have taken for granted all my life. Freedom. I dont hate the kids in London, and i kind of dont hate why they are doing it but I do hate the fact that they are doing it. They dont realise how good they have it. Thats why I posted the Somalian kid. I would love to ask that boy in Somalia what he thinks of this situation..
- sorry if I came kinda hard on you, but I've seen these kinda images used by all kind of low life scum and organizations, it just makes me angry everytime someone post them to justify a differenece in quality of lifeGeorgesII

tangoxray3 the people of Tottenham or any of the other ghettos in the UK don't have it good in any way. There is a problem comparable to the Berlin wall, they don't call them ghettos for no reason.

^ I know about the north end of this. I lived in Walthamstow(not in the village either) for several years.
Tottenham is a hard place, you may as well throw in Enfled, Walthamstow etc because the'yre close enough to spit on and it's all cousins and family interlocked in that area. Its very hard for some of these families to make it. The kids are largely fantastic and hard working, they all want to achieve more for themselves. but as always there is a failing of the education system for boys in certain racial profiles, I think that it's being tackled more effectively now, but for the last 30 years it hasn't worked well.
For the kids that were let down by the education system, there has been a long-standing feeling of frustration. Like anyone else they want stuff, but some of these guys just see "stuff". I mean that the value is in possessions, not in achievements or knowledge. "Gangsta" is cool, but most of the kids love that culture without ever doing anything really bad. I think we are just seeing an organised group of gangs, exercise leverage and gain power. Trouble is, power is something new, and very addictive, I don't think we've seen the last of this.
- Except that the leverage and power they gain will last about 5 minutes..?tangoxray3
- well for now maybe, but the power to cause mayhem will now always be in their arsenalfoz

Right, it looks like at least in London things a little steadier now.
On the aftermath I am still surprised that some people justify the act of those filthy thieves and brainless vandals.I give a shit about how looters feel and I have no sympathy for them. I will invite any of you that call a council estate a 'ghetto' to visit "La Rosinha" in Brazil or Fuerte Apache or Ciudad Oculta in Argentina for a reality check.
In Tottenham they DO have:
+ free housing
+ running water
+ food paid for (aka allowances... Britain is big on these, specially if you are from a so called neglected minority). Most of these kids wanting some justice have a better phone that I have. I mean, I had to save for 3 years to buy my first laptop! How come? just for being a British you are entitled to some bling? I think the part where 'working to earn your means' kicks in was forgotten.
And don't give me any bullshit about crisis. I survived to countries were more than half the population was unemployed or sub-employed, and found a way around. Instead of sitting on my ass complaining and go rioting to have a larger TV, I worked my ass off to earn qualifications, learned more languages and emigrated.
I don't think these kids realise how fucking easy they had it. I could easily do without that kind of scum.
- you're a shining example for us allFax_Benson
- < this is why once everyone's broke,
3rd world countries will survive betterGeorgesII - I am not a shining example but I don't go around looting!maikel

Speaking as someone who group up in a council house in an inner city area, I can tell you that young people (of all racial profiles) in the UK have PLENTY of chances in life. Only problem is that many don't appreciate or take advantage of them, and choose to live off the state whilst running gangsta fantasies in their head.
Now this freebie expecting outlaw mentally is risking the freedoms of us all, including those who have been supporting these ungrateful fucks all along.

yea well, the people up in court are not all 'chav scum' they include graphic designers, youth workers and the daughter of a millionaire.
so keeping the middle class spit in check might make more sense.
and if one more person suggests that trying to understand the situation is tantamount to justifying looting i'm going to kick their face off.
- since when graphic designers are nor chav scum? aye?maikel
- 'youth workers' - lol********

I'm not saying for a minute that their actions are in any way justifiable BTW, just pointing out that the dissaffected groups are a known problem - have been for decades. Also, yes council housing and welfare are available, not arguing against that fact either.
In a nutshel, the opportunity to have a bit of mob fever has arrisen and we need to understand why so many have leaped at it, rather than all stand around saying "shoot the fuckers". Why do they even think that this is a viable action?
I admit, my first reaction was - deport every last one of them. Now I am more contemplative on the state of the society, I'm not sure we've seen the worst yet.

not sure if I posted this already but a few weeks before the riot some kids were interviewed in the area by the Guardian about the closure of all the youth clubs in haringey.
one of the kids says that there will be riots

The youth doesn't want to work hard anymore. All they want is... everything without any efforts. Like the people on tv and inter-netz.
