I would definitely give physical render and Pro render a try. They can create amazing results and they come with the program so you don’t need to pay anything!

I’m at a Beeple gallery show. This sure isn’t crap. He’a Here too.

Does anyone know how to dock something PERMANENTLY in your interface. For example, I type in Shift-C get the Reset PSR button and drag it to the top row of icons and save my new.c4d file in the application folder. It will stay there if I create new files until I quit but it won’t come back when I restart the program.
R19, Mac, High Sierra.

- Perfect. Thanks!CyBrainX

I've been wanting to get back to 3d for some time now, but I'd like to get better foundations that what I had before. Anyone know of any training/class program in california, near LA?
- Isn't it maya oriented tho?dyspl
- I've check gnomon in the past, the online courses would be perfect.not sure if I should switch to maya or stick with c4d.dyspl
- I tried learning Maya 5 which was a long time ago but I found it waaaay harder to learn than C4D. If you want to use Maya, you better use it everyday.CyBrainX
- Maya is a horrible beast but its the corner stone of VFX. What do you want to achieve?mugwart
- Maya I cant imagine being the king of the castle for much longer. If you want to do illustrations/ motion graphics stick to c4d.mugwart

@mugwart
"what do you want to achieve"I want to be able to make still images and be skilled enough to take on any modelisation then being able to properly texture/light and render it.
I'm not really into animation, mograph etc...I primarly want to do it for myself (always loved 3d), and eventually bring some capabilities to work.
I was doing some 3d years ago, but it was pretty empirical and I was lacking a lot in modelisation. I would base everything I'd do from simple extrusion but that was it.
Since then, I've lost the little I knew :/- my advice to anyone right now would be learn unreal.mugwart
- c4d is fun and good for small projects but a pain in the arse for major productions. Houdini is a great but metapyhcial cluster fuck. Modo is worth a checkmugwart
- modeling and lighting/texturing is also two different things. If for fun and hard surfaces you might get away with blender (i know) and light it in unreal.mugwart
- but always find examples of work you like and look at what the artists did to use them and mimic them.mugwart
- What kind of still images? Realistic interiors? Sci-fi? Abstract? Cartoon?shapesalad
- I'd say realistic/sci-fi. more like having an idea of a visual and being able to make it.dyspl
- http://shaq3d.cgsoci…dyspl
- oh ffs...dyspl
- so ideally this would go down like "I want to make a serie of images on that theme", then take a few weeks/month to make it.dyspl

@mugwart
Artist I find incredible :
https://zomax.net/gallery/52hz/Using C4D apparently.
- yea dyspl, stick with C4D, learn some modeling and light/tex in greyscale gorilla, and you should be good for your rendersfeel
- yeah I still have some little base contrary to other apps. I'd just like to get some proper training this time, and stop pushing buttons hoping for the best.dyspl
- thats pretty shit hot. If that's what you want to do and the program can do that - you have your answer. Love to see your progress.mugwart
- Your inspiring me!mugwart
- the 'guy' really knows his layers. I wouldnt be surprised if Nuke was used to comp and grademugwart
- stand corrected was photoshop. Nuke is still better though! Miss Compositing shots...mugwart
- Also - if you get confident my firm has LA office. Happy to promote but it wont be C4D.mugwart
- thanks for the encouraging words mugwart :)dyspl
- No worries. It's actually refreshing to see people want to do it for the love of it. Genuinely would love to see your progress.mugwart

Just found this, not C4D per-say but the guy's been around and seems to know his stuff.

This guys channel is turning out to be pretty awesome for c4d/octane stuff:

"We gave Berlin-based f°am Studio early access to Cinema 4D Release 20 prior to its release. They had the pleasure of putting Cinema 4D's new features through their paces and used it to bring creativity to the extreme. Here's what they came up with..."

- just wish the upgrade from R15 wasn't the equivalent to buying the entire software again. already invested £3k into it...shapesalad
- i just went from 14 to 19. it hurtimbecile

Watching some cineversity videos on the new volumetric workflow new in R20:
https://cineversity.com/vidplayl…
Ah.. I really want it.
It's perfect. Much better than the stand messing around with mesh modelling, bevelling and joining etc and worrying about vertex's and n-gons etc etc.But it's a £2500 side upgrade for me. bummer.

Realtime renderer for C4D, works like a video game engine in it's approach.
- Interesting but do they support ALL C4D features? They list the ones they do feature which makes you think you can't just send any file.CyBrainX
- Does it support any plugins. This would be a pretty big issue. I can't part with my X-Particles.CyBrainX
- Currently, they don't support Mac. My next home computer will be a PC but my current work machine is a Mac Pro.CyBrainX
- How does it perform compared to Google's Zync Render? You get a good budget for the first year. They don't support plugins but they do support Mac.CyBrainX

Volume modelling -works how 3d modelling in my minds eye is envisioned. Traditional methods always took me hours as it was juxtaposed to how I was imagining things in my minds eye.

Anyone know if cinema 4D lite in AE will feature the new Volumetric Modelling stuff in R20?
Would be great not to have to pay £2500+ to update my R15.
- I'm guessing it's not going to be in Lite...shapesalad
- i'd guess the volume stuff are part of mograph, so it won't be present in litefeel

For those that hate UV unwrapping in C4D - Hallelujah:
- It's free https://geometrycoll…shapesalad
- looks promising, have you tried? Looks like bad seams when they do the cone thing thoughwhere_am_i
- thanks for the sharewhere_am_i
- anythings got to be better than C4D's default system and time required finessing UV maps...shapesalad
- Cheers! Will give this a try. UV unwrapping seems unnecessarily complex, anything that makes it easier is good.PhanLo

Tomorrow there will be a new release for C4D, R21...
and honestly, I dont think there is a lot of improvements, since the version R18, which is the one I currently use...Maxon is also going subscription based, and they offered me a "discount" price on the subscription if I converted my perpetual license into a subscription.... which I felt like I was kicked on the nuts.
"Hey, we will take this car that you bought from us, and we will charge now a rent, but dont worry, it will be a smaller rate, because now you wont own anything anymore :)"
I am thinking of switching to Blender... is any of you in similar situation?
- R20 was a huge update last year. The volume feature is a great option. R21's big feature are Fields for dynamics.CyBrainX
- Yeah, but none of these are really useful for character animators :(
Which version you have CyBrainX?Fabricio - I use R20 at home and R19 at work. R20 was probably the biggest upgrade they ever had. I don't do much rigging work. I like modeling characters thoughCyBrainX
