Anyone ever used Cycles with x-Particles? Looks similar to Octane, but a competitor:

Does anyone have issues with the MoGraph Tracer? I have one tracing some clones and it's spazing out big time. the trails are going ahead of the clones sometimes but not others. If I add things to the scene, that's when it usually freaks out. I can't even imagine what's wrong other than it just being another C4D bug. Is there a workaround?
- yeah it's shitJulesvm
- x-particles has a much better tracerJulesvm
- also try caching your mograph setupJulesvm
- Good advice regarding cache. I'm actually sending a scene file to Maxon because I blame them so often for their inconsistent software.CyBrainX
- I tried x-particles and found that harder to control. I've been stuck on this all day. It's pretty sad and I'm starting to whine and piss myself.CyBrainX
- tracer works fine for me, if you wanna leave trails, you should set From End at the trails end, and there's a setting to control if it is tracing clonesfeel
- it is time based, so you should reset to frame 0 when you make a change, and you can't scrub your timeline to see it in action, you should always hit playfeel
- "connect elements" is kinda shitty, to do that effect you should use atom array, tracer works best when tracing thing moving in spacefeel
- oh, and it tracing ahead of the clones, it has to do with the order of your items, tracer should always come last for a better effectfeel
- Oh, order is a good suggestion. I always draw a blank on that issue. Should the tracer go on the bottom of the list in the object manager?CyBrainX
- For now, I have a working file. I had to recreate the damn tracer object every time I changed anything related to geometry or animation in the scene.CyBrainX
- yes, by the end of the list, after everything else took place. about recreeating the tracer, it may have to do with rewinding your timeline and playing againfeel
- tracer doesn't need to be inside any hierarchy, it traces whatever is linked in tracer linkfeel
- I think it might play better at the bottom of the list but it still broke when I added more clones.CyBrainX
- It should be interesting to see what Maxon says about it. I sent them a scene file and description of the issue.CyBrainX
- wanna share with me? I can take a look if you wantfeel
- Thanks. I put some notes in Project Settings > Info.
http://www.talesfrom…CyBrainX - Just found this. I think an Alembic export of the tracer may help. I will try later.

to CyBrainX about his tracer problem:
So, I've just looked into your scene and figured out the problem
Great scene by the way!So the problem is, when you keyframe the object that the cloner clones into, the tracer object gets crazy and doesn't reset.
Also, you're keyframing the tracer "enabled", that also fails to reset it traced splines.
If you remove the keyframe from the enabled in tracer (leave it enabled), and remove the keyframe in the cloner object (leaving only the earth 2 sphere as the cloner object link) you get rid of the problem
So the work around for this, is to have another cloner for the spinning clones on earth 1 sphere, and then keyframe the visibility for both cloner and the tracer of earth 2 sphere
That way, the tracer object gets to be reseted when you rewind your timeline.
I know it is kinda weird the way it works, but I think that the tracer gets confused when you change the object the cloner clones into, that happens because I believe the instances change, so the tracer don't have the info it needs to reset and get rid of the previously generated splines.
So, just keyframe visibility of copies of the same thing, instead of trying to make it work by changing the linked objects
Hope it helps!
- i love this scene btw, great use of the shader effector to kill the clones you don't wantfeel
- Thanks a lot. That does make sense because that frame where I switch the earths is when it breaks consistently.CyBrainX
- I will get back to it but I have some more concerns about the creative direction of the whole project. Pants Crapping and No Fun This Weekend Time.CyBrainX
- Stoked you guys could collab here and find a solution.nthkl

X-Particles works with the hair texture. Learning curve is a few hours.

More livestream action! Covering Adobe fuse, modeling, mixamo rigging and some cloth dynamics.

It's been a while since I've used the External Compositing Tag and I can't get anything out of it at all. All I want is default position information for clone elements. I went beyond that to create a test file with one cube that has an external compositing tag. When I extract in After Effects, all I get is the camera. Am I missing a step?
I'm using R17.
- > You have to put a null as a child of the object you want to track in Cinema 4D. But that only tracks your main clone object as if the cloner were disabled.CyBrainX
- I looked at this tutorial but I don't think aec files work anymore. And this doesn't work with CIneware. https://vimeo.com/83…CyBrainX
- you have to import the c4d file into after effects, throw it on a new comp and then click extract from the cneware plugin, it will extract any camera, light..feel
- ... or external comp tags you have, and it won't work on a cloner, unless you break it into multiple objectsfeel
- Yeah, I'm not getting the info from the cloner. I'm going to have to do what I want in C4D. It's amazing they haven't worked this out yet.CyBrainX

I think this will be quite useful to a lot of people! Light and render your scenes in Cinema 4D the easy way. No need to use an external renderer to get super realistic results.
- Sorry guys for not having a preview but for some reason linking didn't give me the usual preview within the post.phobos79
- thanks for posting this, great tipwhere_am_i
- Hmm, the catch is render time. It's time for some GPU rendering native in C4d.fruitsalad
- Yeah render times can be long but if you play around with noise reduction your golden!phobos79

Though moho has a bit of an amateur feel to it... it's surprising easier for 2D stuff than trying to utilize C4D

- That looks like After Effects with the puppet tool. I wouldn't use a 3D package for that.CyBrainX

Had someone pull out of a project due to time (album artwork and video that was very close to finished). Luckily he's happy to pass over the files.
Any one know where I could find freelance C4D artists to take over?

Maxon has started a new labs thing-type-deal, where people can submit various plugins and scripts they have created and let people download them for free. Choice is limited at the moment, natch, but maybe worth keeping an eye on.
I'm trying out Extrudifier, a script which adds dynamic greebling to objects.

Here's a pet peeve I've had for years.
Is there a way to prevent the Top, Right, Front view panels from switching to a Camera view? I do this by mistake once an hour. I want to C4D to save me from myself.
We should be happy, not sad.

"Tachyon Render is a realtime renderer for Cinema 4D that fully integrates into the rendering pipeline. Using physical based shading, Tachyon Render focuses on highest possible image quality. Users can scale from realtime feedback to high quality multi-sampling that trades realtime render times for better quality.
Tachyon Render is currently under development. We are planning the beta launch in the first half of 2017."
